Better Block Eastlake Street Fair
In just three days (after 117 of planning), we turned a car-dominated street into an active and engaging woonerf for the Eastlake Street Fair Better Block in Thornton, Colorado!
Originating from the Dutch term meaning “living streets,” a woonerf is designed to be a people-friendly space that prioritizes pedestrians, cyclists, and community activities over vehicle traffic. By embracing this concept, we reimagined what Lake Avenue and First Street could look like when dedicated to people rather than cars. Ahh so is this where this stupid idea came from? There's nothing more stupid then to have cars mix with pedestrians eating. Honolulu hawaii had adapted this to their streets, and mark my words, soon, someone will accidentally drive into it.
Hey Fred Zesiger.....are you Jerry and Mary Zesigers son? . .my brother went to OHS with Jerry and they were friends. I had Mary as my home- ec teacher at OHS in 1960. Thank you for your efforts to improve Ottumwa I moved away in 67 but my heart always is in Ottumwa. My home town. Ir hurt to see Ottumwa fall apart after being such a bustling busy town in the 50's and 60's. 😥 💔
