I had never heard of it till war thunder
Erf’e As they say Malta
CWT is the abbreviation for hundredweight - a 20th of a ton, or 8 stone.
Thinking of the brave souls who lost their lives 43 years ago tonight. RIP ❤
Half-tracks make sense in certain circumstances. Gotta spread that weight and not sink on soft ground. Tracked vehicles ❤
@mattheide2775 I do like that they had a 2nd use and I guess they were good for forest fire volunteer company's.
What a beautiful car. The engine displacement was surprising, I thought it would be more powerful. Excellent video as always.
@mattheide2775 I get what you mean and it looks such a small engine for a saloon car I wonder if there was anything on the road in 1933 that came close to it's good looks and knowing it was designed by the Wilks brothers it's quite legendary.
Also one of my favorite, albeit overshadowed and under-appreciated (mostly because Charles Schultz chose the Camel) - fighters of all time. Flying Artwork.
WOW, talk about a reliable workhorse that doesn't eat grain. The Government incentive of a considerable amount of money with the caveat of being appropriated in times of war is really interesting. Also the shift from horses to vehicles is an interesting period in many ways. Thank you for the excellent video.
@mattheide2775 It's great that the Government give Thornycroft the incentive money and used it for much better use back then talking about a work horse did I ever tell you that I made a video about the first 4X4 1912 FWD I heard to day that the British Army has received It's first delivery of the new MAN HX MK 3 / Rheinmetall they are getting 500 for £282 million.
Nice video, lots of information, I wonder what mpg they delivered?, not very good one would imagine, many thanks
@neildelaney5199 I'll look into the mpg though friends hope to make more videos about WW1 transport have you seen my FWD video ?
@@andysvehiclehistorychannel I am subscribed to your channel, so if i haven't seen any of your films i can certainly find them, Cheers Fellow
@neildelaney5199 Nice one dude it was uploaded November 2023 i'v also made a 2nd episode about it's use in British Army service 🫡
I was an MP in the US Army in the early 80s and never heard of an armored Jeep. They must have been very slow with the extra weight of the armor. Cool information, I learned something.
@brentleslie8156 What was the job like from about 1968 they started to make sheet steel armour kits they helped protect the convoys along with the Reo gun trucks and M37 Dodge glad you learned something and I'm planning to do a better voice over and longer video next year for the channel's anniversary.
good lord.. -the narrator is absolutely absurd... I cant even listen to this.
They looked better armoured than the defenders and humvees that went into Iraq initially.
@13infbatt I definitely agree they had so many roles in Vietnam but this is by far the coolest.
Yes, rounding up the Jews and getting money from it They use the same system when they were gathering slaves
Thank you for the excellent video. I can see why they call it the Mutt all of that steel plate must have raised the center of gravity quite a bit. A top heavy vehicle with a narrow track and short wheel base is not ideal on uneven terrain. Thank you for including the radio. That were massive beasts back in the day and weren't terribly reliabe from whay I understand.
@mattheide2775 It was a pleasure to make this video it's a tribute to all the gun jeep operators and at the time I was reading about the Vietnam convoys I can imagine that tham radios were unreliable when they were in zone two going up the An Khe mountain pass was that the same type you used ?
@andysvehiclehistorychannel The radio looks like the kind I trained on. The radios were mounted on racks and there was the receiver and the transmitter that had to be clamped in. All of the cables were keyed and only fit the right socket. The hardest cable was the power cable that was short and I had a hard time connecting it using the Braille method while the sergeant is watching me. Good times. Also using a pencil eraser to clean the contacts before installing. It is amazing how a little corrosion on the contacts can cause problems. I also learned to expect the 20 year old batteries to be very weak and to gather as many as you can find.
@mattheide2775 As you know comms just fascinates me how long was radio training and was the morse code bit difficult ? They looked heavy back then I can very much believe that about that battery's and losing power is that last thing you needed in regards to the cables i'v offen tried to charge my phone and tried to put the power cable in upside-down I think my almost 30 year old brain is starting to show it's age 😁
@andysvehiclehistorychannel I wish Morse code was part of my training. It was before my time. For me it was learning to type at 30 words per minute without mistakes. We used teletype machines, basically you type the message on a big type writer and send a 40 word message in a quick burst. A quick radio transmission keeps the enemy from being able to lock a missile on your position. That's what they said 😂 The teletype was nice because it types out all of the messages. On voice radio messages I had to fill out a message form by hand. It honestly reminds me of being a secretary now that I think about it.
The Mosquito is one of my favorite aircraft. From the mostly wooden construction to it's incredible war record is a great story. I also agree that she is a beautiful woman. ❤
@mattheide2775 The Mosquito was amazing how it could drop SOE agents in it's roll with British Overseas Airways Corporation. I'm looking forward to the RNLI tractors and she was the best...
You're right, a beautiful line-up. Well restored. Its like looking at large scale Airfix kits.
They are just amazing to see the unsung hero's of WW2 the Major's K2Y is were the new Airfix one comes from they took photos and scans of his K2Y and I hear he's got the model 😃
Most of these vehicles, most of the world they carried soldiers that they committed massacre in Africa Middle East, Asia It’s a sham Human inventions are made for genocide
The Afrika Korps did help round up the Jewish so wasn't as clean as what has been portrayed.
Excellent video on this historic ship and the British Navy during WWII. Thank you.
I believe a rocket firing biplane is totally possible. Epic 😎
It is probably a five speed plus a reverse gear. This is paired with a two speed gearbox located in the rear differential at the axle. To start with a heavy load, the lowest gears would be the main transmission in 1st and the rear transmission in low. When shifting up, push in the clutch and shift the rear into high and release the clutch. For third gear, push in the clutch, shift the rear into low, then the main into second gear, then release the clutch. It allows for crawling speed up to maybe 20 mph top speed. Now most of these early transmissions had straight cut transmission gears so you gotta match the engine RPMs. 😊❤👍
@mattheide2775 Wow you know your gears i'v wanted to drive a tractor for so long what would be the maximum rpm on something this old 🤔
@@andysvehiclehistorychannel To make torque is everything in industrial engines. To this day the piston bore is smaller than the piston stroke and they make the most torque. I would guess this beautiful tractor might rev up to 2300. The gears multiply torque to create work, the low rpm limit needs many gears to reach top speed. Horsepower is not a true measurement of how strong an engine is.👍
Thank you my friend. The single front wheel is for a small turning radius, you taught me that with another video. And yes, rubber tires have an interesting history. ❤👍
@mattheide2775 Always good to teach new things was hoping to do an update for this one plans are in the works for more tractor videos but they are going to be more modern 👍
