SIBILANCE (Everything You Need To Know)
During the entire segment on the AT875R, you said the model name of the mic exactly zero times. Yet you say AT785R several times during the segment on the Azden SGM-3500L. Who writes your scripts?
So, let me get this straight. I make a video listing out the top 10 mics I recommend at the time, list out the brand and model on the screen for your convenience, list them out in the exact order I speak about them in the description below for your convenience, yet you’re so simple, you can’t get passed the fact that I didn’t outright say the name of the mic even though it was listed on the screen and below? Get a life bud. You look silly.
@@JamesYounger Sometimes people are listening but not watching. You said the name of every other mic.
@@rangersmith4652 Look, I created this content for free. I make like $0.001 a month from this video. You pay nothing to watch my content. Yet, you're complaining that I didn't say the name of a mic, even though I went out of my way to list in on screen and in the description. This is when you know we have it REALLY REALLY good. The day people have to work really hard to find shit to complain about. You come at me with a shitty comment that includes "Who writes your scripts?" You're lucky I'm taking it easy on you. Now, go consume more free content and find way to complain about it.
@@JamesYounger RUclips content is not free. I pay a fee to avoid random ads, yet I still have to endure embedded ads. You can be as hard on me as you like. A lot of people who have though very highly of themselves have done that, and I'm still standing. I very much appreciate the effort you make in your videos, and I have found them quite useful in making a mic purchase decision. Due in no small part to your review, I will probably end up with the mic whose omitted name spawned this thread. And I'll save the expense of building a booth. In this business, everyone has growing room, right? As a former university professor in both composition and public speaking, I decided to alert you to what I perceived as a shortcoming in this part of the presentation. I was listening closely but was not in sight of my monitor. I liked what I was hearing about a mic that was only called "this mic," and I waited to hear its name. But no. I had to come back to my desk, wake my display, and click into the previous section to see what mic it was. A minor inconvenience, a first-world problem to be sure. But it mattered to me, a member of your audience. My method of making this point was abrupt, but it worked; the comment got your attention. No, you're not one of students, but maybe you learned something anyway.
Hey Mr Younger, have you ever asked yourself the following questions: 1. Does my life, inside this giant virtual social bubble, have any real meaning to me. 2. Is my first thought, when I wake up in the morning, to count how many likes, comments, and subscribers I got. 3. Is there more to life than to be just one more lost soul. I am sure you'll snap out of this illusion at some point in your life.
When you wake up in the morning, Is your first thought "I can't wait to spend my entire day leaving comments on random creators' RUclips videos, because I’m lonely and my life has absolutely no meaning”?
@@JamesYounger I am not a RUclips disciple. I just happen to randomly pick a victim of its own doing.
@@motebike Well, you're on the platform doing exactly what they want consumers to do. Engaging and commenting. Keep feeding the machine, you're doing great. 🤡
@@JamesYounger Always a pleasure to tell it like it is
@@motebike Always a pleasure interacting with NPC's.
It’s the best microphone I’ve ever owned. I eventually sold it looking for greener grasses but nope I just bought another 875r.
This good for recording music?

James, great informative video. I'm surprised shotgun mics can deliver depth like that, I guess I've been putting too much emphasis on the form factor. Chunky condensers being the only option for "full sound" etc. I'm actually considering the AT-875R as a replacement for my extremely sensitive and MUCH more expensive tube condenser as I doubt I'll ever be able to provide the room it deserves and demands. I don't care if the AT-875R is intended as a boom mic in video production, if it sounds good on voice and isolates voice it's a winner to me🏆
My daughter and I use a Sennheiser MKH416 and our clients love the recordings
My daughter and I use a Sennheiser MKH 416 for VO and my client love my recordings
I ended up going with the Sennheiser Profile.
Those plosives sounds like a terrible show stopper if your using it for VO purposes😲
Great channel, thanks for sharing your knowledge 👍
Dose it matter how loud u set ur mic pre Amp?
Oh yeah, setting proper levels always matters. But what exactly are you asking? Like, are you asking does it affect the quality when setting them for a mic placed within the eyeball?
you will be the only one that says the audio is altered cause if you can under stand a vocal use it regardless
Someone is triggered: ruclips.net/video/g_YmLfygvCU/видео.htmlsi=kGEtUPt-HeF6x_ON
@@JamesYounger its not triggered its big artist still use this thing and come out with hits
@@anthonysanity Are those big artists voice actors?
These litrually are a great improvement to un treated rooms Lexnour uses this and he gets great audio
I actually sold my shit didn’t like it at all
U sound a bit like the sewer king
Or you can double them up and get your 4 inch foam for cheaper
Against the Neumann u87, there is only the slightest difference in transients. The T2 is one hell of a mic.
Such great information!! TY so much. I am returning to voice-over work after being off for a few years and considering upgrading my mic soon. I began recording with a Blue Yeti condenser mic in 2019 with a pop screen and propped-up pillows surrounding my desk work area to muffle out white noise. Would like to eventually build a desk-height whisper area. My Yeti served me quite well with continual work for nearly 3 years!! This time I plan to work P/T and just considering my options. TY for any advice on upgrading. Patti :)
I listen to a lot of BBC radio. It all has a peak level of -6db. That is good enough for me.
Oh, are you doing work for BBC radio?
Hey James, great video! Is this mic only for recording or could you use it for performance if you wanted to use one mic to catch both guitar and vocals? Thanks !
The X1S is insane value for money. A nice flat frequency response with a pleasant silky high end, and a full low end that's not muddy or boomy. It has no business sounding this good at this price point. If you're a new streamer then just buy this and you'll never need to upgrade.
Id be curious about a breakdown on shotgun mics - like you say everyone emulates the 416, so a "why is the 416 king? Why do others fall short? Wired vs XLR? Comica vs AT vs Sennheiser?" Etc
I’m a little surprised you didn’t include super/hyper cardioid small diaphragm condenser. Pretty common for soundstage productions.
Ahhh yes. Common for soundstage and music. Not VO.
Hmmm, so how far to you get with $200 to acoustically treat your space? How much did you spend? 1000s I presume.
I spent around $200 to properly treat my space. But that's MY space. Everyone's space will require different methods.
Hi there I'm a classical singer, who's going to sing som jazz standards with a microphone. Normally as classical singers, we are taught to use as strong konsonants as possible, because people need to hear them when there's no microphone. But now that I'm going to sing with a microphone... Man there's a lot of popping sounds. It's going to be live, so I will probably be singing into a shure sm58 or something (dynamic mic), but when I search RUclips for mic techniques I haven't found anyone discussing how to avoid the popping sounds. I'm constantly being told to hold the microphone right in front of the mouth, maybe going a bit away if I'm changing the volume a lot, but always "have the microphone right in front of your mouth". I know you are talking about condenser or shotgun mic's, but can holding a dynamic mic at your chin, a few inches away also work, or do you think the sound engineer will be pissed?
Hey there! The main reason you don't see anyone talking about how to not pop a mic like the sm58 is because it doesn't really matter which I know sounds crazy initially. The sm58 was designed for live vocals and it has a pop shield built into the microphone. The reason you're hearing the P's is because you haven't applied a high pass filter to the vocals like the engineer will do at the performance. Basically, the engineer will take all of the low frequencies out of your voice because that's where the P's live. In the low frequencies. So, the fact that the sm58 already has a built in pop filter AND the engineer will throw on a high pass filter on your vocals, you should be totally fine to have it in front of your mouth.
@@JamesYounger Oh! Thanks for the info! That certainly clears things up. :)
James: I heard every word you said. Excellent review and very helpful with starting out!
Such a great mic! Great video, thank you!

Thanks man, I just skipped to it! 🙌
The ball is better. Smoother. High ends are too present. That is only good for voices on electronic genres.

The 416 is The One.
Hold on, WAIT UP! You are going to tell me that all these years I have been playing loud music for my neighbours was wrong thing to do?! I can't accept that. So much time and effort spent for them to hear AC/DC and you are going to tell me they don't like it? Nah bro. Just kidding ofc :D Love the video man. Very much informative and spot on. I also love the way you seamlessly implemented the sounds from each microphone while speaking about them. I wanted to find a good mic since I want to start my YT channel. These are a bit too expensive for me so I will have to find cheaper ones but I am not at least armed with knowledge to choose properly. Kudos to you.
I really appreciate that! :) You should check out the sE Electronics X1 A! It's only $100 and sounds amazing! I did a full review of it you can find here: ruclips.net/video/SLPc7lrlbOk/видео.htmlsi=yBRJNcjk5MSMnIX-
Ofc, I wouldn't be against any suggestions you might have for around 100$. Interested in doing a channel where I would talk over some stuff (without showing my face). And I do have a bit of background noise. PC fans, cars on the road although not loud etc.
@@JamesYounger ahh you were ahead of me, thank you, I will check it out :D
@@TheBranchez Then you could use the sE X1 A and just denoise the audio in post, you can learn all about how to do that here: ruclips.net/video/BW5nSMhPDto/видео.htmlsi=_5bYnN0ym4GocJmA OR you could go with a dynamic microphone because it would pick up less background noise.
Brilliant!! 😂👻
😂 Thank you!

🙂
great video bro.🌹 are kali's speakers V2 good for vocal recording and mixing in a home studio ?🙂 Or do you prefer other speakers for this purpose like Adam audio t7v. jbl 306p mkii. presouns eris 7xt and krk rokit 7 I'm confused with the choice 🤔 please help me. 😊
The Kalis would absolutely be great for what you're asking! No need to break the bank!
OMG - 20+ years recording audio and immediately noticed your sibilence destroyed. I had to research this "device" after having stumbled upon an ad and being flabbergasted by its price - great idea for a moneygrab, imo, and not much else. Thank you for having saved me time as I'm satisfied with your take. Kudos.
I was almost sold on the LP-UNF's but man those LP-6's sure put them in their place. The LP-6's are only £50 more as well. Downside of course is they require a lot more desk space, which I don't have. Decisions decisions!
He is right it took all the clarity of the mic away and it actually added more noise as well
Great interview!
I own the TLM 103, the Sennheiser 416, and just got the Mojave 201FET and the Lauten Audio Clarion. Both are just awesome. Try them!!
Damn, it sounds great! Had I known of this mic, I might have not picked up my AT2020, its pretty close in price
Nicely done sir
Great review! Did you record that intro song? It sounds awesome! Also, watch out for THE GOVERNMENT 2:13 😂 The mic has nice built in features for sure 👍

A couple of mics to put on your radar, one VO pro to another. First, the United Studio Technologies Twin87, an 87ai style mic that delivers. I use it when I want to deliver my "NPR" voice 😊 Is it "as good"? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Not one of my clients has complained. For the second, Earthworks' ETHOS. I picked it up primarily for my own livestreaming and podcast activities, but that small diaphragm mic has become my promo workhorse. Who knew? Plus, it DOES look sharp on camera 😁
I just picked up a T2 thanks to your recommendation. However I noticed mine has a black SE label as opposed to yours with a Red one. Does it come in a different color or did I end up grabbing an earlier model? I wonder if there’s a difference.
I used the Amazon foam to decorate. It sucks for actual treatment.
Do you feel the mids are kinda muddy? How do you feel this will pair with rap vocals?
Thanks for the review. I will probably be picking one up.
Hate to say, I was one who was fooled by the foam 😭
I'd say the vast majority of us were!
