Love your videos and we have so many TBR overlaps. I’ve heard demon copperhead isn’t dependent on reading David Copperfield, but I highly recommend you read David Copperfield at some point. In my opinion, it’s one of Dickens’ best and most accessible reads.

The Guest by Emma Cline, a disliked book with a dislikable main character and no plot. I'm intrigued. This is fascinating: so until just a couple of years ago, you basically only read fantasy, and now you read so much contemporary literary fiction? What changed? What’s started importing contemporary fiction into your reading?

This channel was recommended to me because I was searching about Octavia Butler but besides her books all the other books reviewed here also match my taste and I'm really grateful that I found it.

Based on this video you NEED to read The Shards by Bret Easton Ellis. It’s pure like summer horror/psychological thriller/ autofiction set in 1980s LA. Ellis himself is also a massive Didion and Babitz fan and it shows.

You have some excellent books on your reading list for August. Prophet Song is absolutely phenomenal. Cloud Atlas is brilliant. It's one of my all-time favourite books! I own three copies of it.

That's interesting to hear your thoughts. I'm an older reader and this century is really yours and your contemporaries. I've read most of your selection and pretty much in agreement with you. I'm from Australia and if I can encourage you to pick up a book from Australia I'd like to. Praiseworthy by Alexis Wright just won our two most prestigious awards and it's a madcap book with lots of interesting content, it's a long book and a bit of a commitment but worth a try. T&t&t didn’t work for me either. The only brilliant thing about that book was the manufacturing game she built in the beginning. It’s hard for that “tragic plot twist” to hit me since I personally find that character kind of narcissistic and passively manipulative lol. I get that she wants to write unlikable complex characters, but without giving those characters an arc triggers some empathy, it’s hard to feel bad for them.

This was fun! I remember loving the gold finch the first time I read it but when I tried to listen to it as an audio book years later I couldn’t get through it. I also didn’t love tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow. I think I had heard too much hype before getting to it. 😢 happy reading!

I really enjoyed this video! Butler is one of my favorite authors as well. Shes so unique and I really believe that most can't come close to her ideas and writing. I read some of her short stories in University and am currently reading Parable of the Sower. It is written with such finesse, and I'm excited to read th sequel.

i really loved into the dream house too but i had to put it down a couple of times because it's really a lot to take in. She wrote it in an interesting way and it's such an important topic to talk about. And as she says, there's a big gap of information to be filled and the book does a good job in showing how an abusive relationship develops and what it feels like to be in one.

I know Joan Didion isn't really known for her fiction, but I enjoyed Play It as It Lays. So I'll add Democracy to my TBR as well.

I always look forward to your videos. I come away with some good picks for my future reading. Please keep up the good work providing a format I cannot find elsewhere.
