If their relationship became sexual,it would undermine their ability to maintain discipline within the ranks on-board Voyager. A real life example of how sexual relationships between a senior officer and a subordinate will affect discipline occurred just a few years ago when members of the RAF aerobatic team were found to be abusing females within the team. Because a senior pilot was involved, it wasn't stopped at squadron level and more senior officers had to get involved to resolve this toxic and potentially dangerous situation. They found a culture existed where females were seen as property for the pilot's/officer's amusement, the abuse was normalised. Women in the squadron had to form a "shark watch"-never go out alone, watch each other's backs in order to stay safe. 1 pilot was reassigned, 2 were sacked,and many more members of the squadron were either spoken to, or received administrative punishment for their part in the harassment and the subsequent cover up. Whether in fiction in real life; sexual relationships between a superior officer and his/her direct subordinate would never be allowed. In the eyes of military law; Janeway would be guilty of r@#e because the subordinate would be compelled to consent due to their lower status. Chakotay may have been a willing participant, but Starfleet would see it in a different light. For Janeway, a conviction for sexual assault/battery, conduct unbecoming of an officer could mean a loss of rank, benefits, prison(minimum 2 years up to life imprisonment). Dishonourable discharge from the armed forces. These are the maximum consequences, the judge has the discretion as whether or not give 1 sentence for all crimes(concurrent) or to separate sentences for each offence. Appealing a military conviction is a 2 step process;first the conviction and then the sentence. If both are successful, then the soldier will be declared innocent and petition for reinstatement.

Remember seven was only just discovering men and dating in her late 20s. Of course she was unsure of herself. Chakotay had discovered women and dating in his teens, so was much more self assured when it came to dating.

They should do an alt timeline where they took it home and left the kazon to take the tech. kazon dominate the alpha quad through a series of luck and blunders and form a wasteland of lawlessness till it bumps up against the fed and the fed loses cuz they didn't prep for it and the kazon are theives and thugs with borg and dino tech.

Wow! So beautiful! This song fits so perfectly for them. The longing, the regret, the conflict of being torn to choose between having obligation to duties and a relationship. Only wish they had gotten together in the end. Guess we'll just have to dream...

When for that one second they just stare into each others eyes!!!!! -Changing episodes here now. -Who else wishes that at the end of shattered he lied to her and said they were together or something. Then kissed her! From the way she acts I think she would welcome it! Then he would fix time, current Janeway wouldn't remember anything but he would remember!!! Missed opportunity there!!! 😭😭😭

They would have made a great couple, but I also love how they explored how a woman and a man CAN have a true bond in friendship withOUT it actually turning romantic/involved. Chakotay had a formidable and indisputable respect for Captain Janeway. I realize if they had stayed on "New Earth", their relationship probably would have evolved into romance, their foundation was deep and rooted in a truly great friendship.
