Atari 7800 sold 3.7M in US alone in the period between 1986 and 1990. The figure you've shown for the Master System is also inflated. Tec Toy stated to have sold 8 million MS in Brazil until 2016 but by that point the MS they were selling for many tears weren't really MS hardware anymore.

I actually chose the Odyssey2 over the 2600 back in the day. Never regretted it. Memory limitations meant all the games (except Turtles! - the best game on the system) were single-life games, that restricted replayability, but the games didn't suck. It is noteworthy that the vast mojority of early titles were all written by one programmer (actually an Intel salesman). The inclusion of graphic primitives (circles, squares, spaceships and a distinctive little stick-man). meant that the 2K cartridges could deliver great games in the limited space (Of course the 2600 eventually had 4L & 8k cartrisges) The system also sported excellent controllers, which I prefer to the CX10/CX40 that Atari offered. Unfoirtunately, in North America, they were hardwired into the system, so I couldn't take them with me as I progressed to home computers in 1982.
