Up close with a Groundhog

A couple of minutes watching a groundhog do groundhog things. Video taken up close. Not much action, a few bugs crawl around on it's nose while it nibbles on some plants. Still it's kind of cute.

Great video! When we had our very first Pileated Woodpecker sighting, we were amazed at how big they are! Such amazing birds. New subscriber here ✨
Thanks. Yes it still surprises me when I haven't seen one in a while. Big and beautiful.
Love seeing the nose flare and nice composition of her in the dappled sunlight. You are getting close ups with great detail! What camera/lens are you using? I am starting to think I'd like a new camera!
Hi again, D7500 and 200-500 mm F5.6 Nikon lens
I love this! Flying away with the shavings? Tricky! Chickadees collected our dog's fur. I was hoping to find the nest. I guess I should not expect it to be above a little pile of shavings.
I've seen this several times over the years so I assume it's their normal behavior. It's always been in trees with a fair amount of rot so look for a dead tree!
Congrats on a wonderful find and series documentation! I have not seen that in the wild yet. I especially enjoyed seeing it tossing wood chips out of the nesting cavity and the adult tapping the trunk as though ringing a doorbell right before the other adult flew out. This is great!
Thanks
WOW! Awesome footage! I wonder what details of its tongue we could see if you cropped it and slowed it down even more. It's very cool. Thank you for sharing!
I grabbed a bunch of stills and they really didn't add much. I think to really get more detail it would be better shooting stills- more resolution this way. At least with my gear. I think with the newest cameras you can grab very high res stills from your video or run very slow slo-mo like you were suggesting.
@@christurner4231 Thank you for your information! What was this video taken with?
@@mydailynature A Nikon D7500 with a 200-500mm lens. Not a great camera for video, half the time I can't tell if the focus is right on. Thankfully it was for this video.Good camera for stills.
@@christurner4231 Nice! Yep, I get it. I frequently have to stop video to zoom in, refocus and by then my subject has usually moved on. Congrats again on this video!
Fantastic! Pileated Woodpeckers are so super cool! Great footage!

That is one heck of a Bird. Amazing. First Comment! 🙂😜🤪
It was incredible to see the bird up close and when it pulled out that first grub I couldn’t believe what it found to eat- not to mention I was lucky enough to be recording.
