So what I'm playing in this video is the retail edition (specifically the latest expansion that came out in August). BUT I have also played classic (and some classic hardcore) on my device as well, and it runs amazing. So whichever option you choose, you should have a good experience!

yes, you can play while charging. In fact, playing while plugged in gets you the best performance (the 30w performance mode, versus 25w when unplugged). Also, for the ROG Ally x, it will be better in some regards. Performance will only be a "little" faster (same processor, but more RAM, so slight improvements), but where the Ally X shines is the increased battery life.

Unfortunately it got delisted about 1-2 weeks ago. I'm not sure of the specific details, but there's some drama/conflict going on between the Decky team and the developer of Nonsteamlaunchers, which led to it getting delisted.

@@DiAngelo. For which game specifically? MOST games, I try and play at default settings (within the game) and at 720p. Then I can try and tweak accordingly

I'm using the consoleport addon. It allows you to set up your keybindings to your controller buttons. You can bond certain actions (I use "a" to jump, the bumpers to target), and you can also bind your spells. A little bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty solid!

Honestly, in terms of ergonomics, I prefer the steam deck (just personal opinion). And no, due to having consoleport set up, I haven't found any need for the track pads. BUT I will say the install method for Battlnet/WoW may be easier on the ROG ally due to windows. Getting things set up on the deck can sometimes be a process and jumping through hoops.

What settings are you running. I was able to hit the 60 (although not consistently) with Low settings on the OLED, so I would assume it would be the same (or similar) on the LCD?

@jaredconyers to force for to kick in I use 1024x640 My tdp is set to 13 GPU clock is set to 1300. My in game settings are window mode 80 resolution anti aliasing high shadow low texture medium post process low Depth of field low LOD set to medium grass off motion blur off camera shake off destruction low or medium. Now if you use this let me know it works for me also play with the settings might get a better result

You can also get FSR to turn on by using 1024x768

Yeah, check out tyedyeties response(s). You can play with other Linux users, but there's pretty strict conditions to make that work.

In this I was using the OLED, but if you're playing on the LCD, you can expect similar numbers. Performance differences between the LCD and OLED is normally very minimal.

How many times have you launched the game? In my experience, I have to launch the game more than once to get it to appear for the first time. OR the add-ons folder may not be in the correct location via installation?

@@m.y7816 exactly! Just a minor upgrade in RAM. Everything I've read says this equates to only a minor performance increase. I think the main benefit of the Ally X would be better battery life.

Remnant 2 is definitely worth it! I've been seeing a lot of people give away the others on reddit.

Interesting. I only tried with Bnet and Ubisoft, but I'll check out epic and GOG and see if I run into any issues.

Definitely agree with what you're saying. I think this device is "good" for its first iteration, but there's A LOT of room to improve. Rumors are the "Ally 2" may come out next year, so I'm curious to see what improvements we'll see with that.

That's tough, bc there are many factors (what operating mode you're using, what resolution, are you playing an indie game or a newer AAA game?). Overall though, the battery life on the Z1 extreme is NOT great. If this is what you're looking for, you may want to look into the Ally X, OR see what improvements we may see with the next generation (which are rumored to come out next year).

On the Odin encounter it will studder then freeze then crash

You're sacrificing graphics, but if I play at low settings, 720p, and play plugged in at 30w, I can't get 30+fps in most parts

Sounds like you're running the same settings I am. Under having FSR set to balanced, what do you have your resolution sharpening to (0 or 1)? I have mine set at 1, not sure if this would help any though.

@@jaredconyers I messed around with some of the settings and restarted the game a few times until the shader pre download started downloading and from there it was a better experience. Thanks for replying tho!

No, as long as you don't rearrange them in game. I have my keybindings and action bars set up on PC, then on the handheld I just map specific spells/actions to the various buttons.

I can't personally speak to them, but Ive seen some good things on reddit about Persona 5 strikers and Jusant.

I'll probably check out Sparkling Zero, BO6 (I'm a glutton for punishment), and Dragon Age, but yeah, nothing that I'm absolutely ECSTATIC for

For great performance AND less heat, you're probably off with some older games or indie games. Newer AAA titles can push the limits of the Ally, in turn pushing the heat up. I have read that people have set custom fan curves which may help with this, but I've never done it. Could be useful information for you though

Nice! My PC also has a 3080ti. I only upgraded my ally SSD to 1 tb though (I also have the steam deck, so alternate based on what I'm playing)

@@jaredconyers nope. I can play as low as 16w-17w and get 60+fps at 900p for balanced all low settings. When on 30w mode, im getting 65-80fps

I wonder if the bnet launcher needs an update? When it does, I have difficulties running in gaming mode, and need to go into desktop to update the launcher. Also, are you having the launcher force close once a game starts. If not, I wonder if that's impacting it any

Treat yourself to geforce now and run everything on ultra 120hz

You can play a lot of indie games at 120fps, a lot of older AAA games (if you have backlogs) will run above 80fps. I'm glad they didn't skimp out on the refresh rate. 120hz is necessary in this day and age.

Is there an adapter to use 2280 ssd, it's very cheap and easy to install. And 2280 ssd nowadays are very inexpensive and great to have. Also there is micro sd support which will in most cases be better and outperform the external (and also a common internal) HDD from desktop The only downfall for the ally for me os battery life, that remember me of those old gaming laptops. It can run alan wake 2 tho 😂 I totally miss another usb c port but most ppl will use a dock which extends that, and they fixed all these 2 problems with rog ally x… So far an awesome device my daily gaming drive
