Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance began operations on 1st July 2007. Our Helicopter and Critical Care Team Vehicles are based at Thruxton Airfield near Andover and our Charity Head Office is based in Nursling, Southampton.
Our mission is to ensure that, through your support, we always bring exceptional critical care to people in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. To learn more about the work we do, latest news about the charity, and stories from some of those who have been rescued by our crew, please visit the relevant pages on our website.
HIOWAA receives no government, statutory or National Lottery funding for routine operations, relying entirely on the generosity of the people and businesses.

On 1 July 2024 we mark 17 years since our first flight. Since then, we have responded to more than 18,000 emergencies across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and beyond. Thanks to support from people like you, we have been able to deliver advanced critical care to those who need us most. Thank you for keeping us flying and saving lives.

2023 - Our Year in Numbers

2023 was another busy year for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. Flight Suit demonstration

Flight Helmet demonstration

Specialist Paramedic Dolly McPherson takes us through a demonstration of the flight helmet worn by the crew when they are travelling in our aircraft. These specialist helmets cost £1,900 and are individually sized and fitted for each crew member.
Night Vision Goggles demonstration

Pilot Marcus Doyle takes us through a demonstration of the FENN Night Vision Goggles used by our Pilots and technical crew members. This crucial piece of equipment costs £22,000 and enables the crew to operate the aircraft safely when flying at night.

After my ETV I ended up readmitted and in HDU with cerebral salt wasting syndrome.
I was diagnosed last year with hydrocephalus. I have 3 times the amount of fluid than Kevin’s scan. Just had a failed ETV surgery. Now waiting for a shunt.

What an amazing story
Air Ambulance saved my life after a riding accident on the downs on the Isle of Wight. They flew me to Southampton where I was in a coma in neuro intensive care for six weeks following brain surgery. I would not have survived without the helicopter’s help. I was winched into the helicopter. The ambulance could not get up the hill. 17:42

Heaven, Hell, and Hospitals have one thing in common: They all have loads of folks who didn't expect to be there. You never know what is around the next corner, even in your own home. Thank you guys for being there when when we find out! I signed up to the HIOWAA lottery when it came out, and subsequently added a subscription every month. Money well spent. (And, in the nicest possible way, I NEVER want to get closer to Helimed 56 than seeing her land next to B&Q on the Island, where I work!)
