  • The 1845 New Orleans Half Dollar features not one, but six obverses with a repunched date. PCGS attributes the three with the most dramatic spacing.

    I think i have 1 of these dated shield nickels,graded,that also say's "no ray's".
    I'd have to double check the year of the coin ,but pretty sure it's the same year. 🤔 ¿

    PCGS has pages for 20 die marriages for the 45-O. Are they choosing not to attribute all of these distinct die marriages? That seems rather unprofessional of the Professional Coin Grading Service. And what happened to Bill Bugert's WB-# system used in his guides to die marriages?

    The alloy of the coin had NOTHING to do with the repunched date and was not the reason for repunching the die which was made of a totally different metal and is a completely different step in the minting process.
