I was surprised to learn that all-night drinking, gambling and whoring was common among traveling gospel singers. Ever since then I have been careful to not equate singing ability with a pure heart.

Friend, just to clarify, it's the Holy Spirit that makes Christians do/think/say 'good' versus 'bad' - it has nothing to do with your race or even your culture. Furthermore God is too loving to compare His children against each other, 'i.e.' 'my Black kids are better than my White kids.' Even a loving early parent wouldn't be so judgmental.
