We never used to bring numbers down. My kid is using this method thanks to teacher. We used to put the remainder before the next num and divide. Thanks for showing new method so can see how it's being taught.

I wonder: why do Americans draw that sort of square root? Why do they swap dividend and divisor? Why do they write the quotient at the top? Because here in Europe we have none of that rewriting and go straight for the calculations, writing the quotient to the right.
