The round by round, modular structure of boxing scoring means that you can have a really close, competitive fight and have it wide on the cards. It's similar to tennis, but there is no controversy in tennis because points are clear cut. You could have a set where every game goes to 10 deuces, every rally contains 20 plus shots, the set lasts over an hour, but one guy wins 6-0. Same in boxing. Surely the aim of the scoring is just to arrive at the right winner.
Great analogy. I think close fights are hard to score, just look at last weeks fight, most had Usyk winning, but a few in boxing had it a draw. You can have two ex world champions sit together and watch a close fight and they will have different opinions on who won or if it was a draw.
Exactly right. Just because its a close fight doesn't mean anything. One guy HAS to win a round. Even if the fight was super close, that doesn't mean technically all 12 rounds could be won by that fighter who boxed better.

Cattaralls defence is top drawer. Very hard to hit cleanly which must have frustrated Taylor no end. Very awkward style which led to many head clashes but the right man won regardless of the scoring!

The whole boxing industry needs a shake up. Put monitors in the gloves (It can be done) that measure impacts in a specific and small area of the gloves. Then, let the computer be the judge based upon punches thrown.

There is no scenario in which Taylor won the first or second fight both where clear wins for Catterall I understand managers,trainers, and fighters being disappointed but just watch the fight back without prejudice it was a good fight with only one winner.

This narrative about "wide cards" was always gonna happen. It's all just PR to try to rescue Taylor's reputation after the absolute robbery in the first fight. They're trying to claim the same happened here to Taylor, but when you watch the fight back, you can see Taylor barely landed anything of note on Catterall (outside of the couple rounds in which Catterall gassed) and Catterall absolutely battered him.
