This is why I love RUclips! My wife tells me that our 10 yr old Bosch Classixx washing machine is broken and is about to order a new one - I type in the error code and up pops this brilliant and extremely clear video. I remove the brushes and as predicted they are less than 1cm long - well worn. I order new set on Amazon at 5.99, refit and clear the error code. First wash is running next morning! Many thanks
Fantastic video !!...I watched a few on YT first, but I found yours the easiest to follow.I am forever grateful for your detailed step-by-step tutorial. Ordered the carbon brushes for £8 from Amazon, and saved a good £400 for the new Bosh washer. My daughter and I spent 3 hours on this, and didn't even have the correct tools (had to run to the shop in the middle of this job to get the spanner)..But,3 hours later my washer is running again!!.. I feel so proud, thank you !!
Absolutely fantastic!!! Thank you so much! For the sake of a pair of carbon brushes (£8.30) and an hour and a half of time (could have been quicker, but I didn't have a ratchet spanner!), it's saved us having to get a new machine which is what one guy had suggested I do when I told him the problem ... "it's not worth fixing mate, it's already 10 years old, it'll cost more than it's worth!". Your instructions and steps in the video were all so clear and unambiguous ... top marks! Thank you again.
Good work getting it sorted! It’s a little bit more technical than the average diy… yeah, ratchet spanner is a nice little luxury that I treated myself to! 😁 cheers, Phil
You are a nice man to have shown the troubleshooting for the washing machine . The complicated problem became easier. Thanks for showing how to solve the problem code F21.
My old washing now has new carbon brushes and works perfectly again. Thanks very much, this is probably the most helpful video I have ever found on RUclips.
Thank you for taking the time to make this. I was told by a local reputable repair shop that my machine was beyond repair. I followed your video and had the machine back up and running pretty easily. Your video includes the subtle details that make the job much easier rather than skipping them (such as how to feed the belt back one).
Awesome! Good job, I make the vids but you guys still have to do the work and get it right 👍 thanks for your comment, always nice to hear from Aus! Cheers, Phil
Great repair video and like others have said the level of detail you went into made this very easy for me to follow. I'm very grateful to you. For the benefit of anyone who hits the same snag as me. I couldn't open the door when we first saw the F21 problem. It had a set of clothes being washed that we needed. Eventually i figured out that just above the drain plug is a black pull tag. Pull it while pulling the door latch and the door opens. Obviously drain as much water as you can first. Other than that i just copied what you laid out in very simple and clear terms. Thanks again.
The best tutorial video I have seen. Clear description and demonstration and not assuming that we have any idea what we are doing is a big help. Followed it step by step and it works perfectly. Many thanks
Just wanted to add my thanks for a great video. Got a Bosch Classix 7 that developed F21 fault. Bought some brushes locally & following this video was able to replace them. Make sure you get those angles the right way round when you put new brushes in. Up and running again same day for minimal cost. Top work thank you!
Hi, Our Bosch packed up on Monday afternoon. It displayed an F 21 error and, having watched your video, it's now working again and has completed two wash cycles! It really was easy to do. The biggest problem was man handling the machine itself in a tight space. The actual removal of the motor and replacing the brushes was a doddle. Many thanks for doing your video.
Thank you for posting this, ive just repaired a old "dead" 20 years old Bosch washing machine following your video, excellent my friend! liked & subscribed!
Thanks so much! Glad to have you onboard as a subscriber 👍 Good work getting your old machine going again, I’m sure it’s got many more years of service to give 😎 cheers, Phil
Thanks to you, I repaired the Bosch car, which is 16 years old and has not had any repairs until now, and that for only 35 lei, (6 £). It is a very well explained tutorial. Thank you very much.
Brilliant video, I was just about to buy a new machine, I watched your video, ordered the parts from Amazon, they arrived the next day, spent an hour replacing the brushes, it took a couple of goes to clear the code and now all is well, thank you very much for the video, Dave.
Great Video. Just a comment on refitting the plastic shield shown at 14:45. I believe it should be put back the same as the the original shown at 3:45, which has the wiring routed over the plastic and both secured together with the tie-wrap to prevent vibration/flexing of the cables at the motor end.
Super helpful video. This was my exact problem and the video explained in great detail what I had to do. Very easy to follow and my washing machine works perfectly again. I'm usually rubbish at DIY, so as well as saving money, I've got a great sense of achievement. Thanks very much
This is a fantastic video and was the only reason I was able to fix my bosch machine. I did however have to do a couple of extra steps before mine was fully working which is worth mentioning in case others need the same 1.) I had to vacuum out some carbon debris from where the brushes go, to help the brushes fit/ contact properly. 2.) It didnt spin up to fast speeds straight away after fixing. I had to run a couple of empty spin cycles followed by a handful of partial loads 3 or 4kg to get the brushes to bed in before it started spinning at full pace
Great video it really explains how to change the Brushes in my Bosch Washing Machine and how to reset the error code Safe clear and easy to follow instructions Well Done
I think a great spin on your channel would be to buy older appliances that maybe dont work or do but then you show us how to do a refurbishment of them. I personally would love to see videos like that and i could buy older items or perhaps pick them up for free and bring new life back to them
Thanks for sharing the idea, I really like it! 👍 I was wondering if people would be interested in that because I watched a channel that fixed appliances and it wasn’t a how to, he started off having no idea what was wrong with the machine and you followed the process… cheers, Phil
I just got the F21. Ill be honest at first i didn't watch all the video i just watched the end and tried the reset... it worked.....for now. New brushes no doubt will be needed in the near future. Im assuming new machines wont differ much from these older ones when things go wrong...
I tried replacing the brushes (the old ones wore down to the copper!) but I’m not sure I got the orientation right, putting it on spin it jumps from 12 minutes to 1, I can hear the relay click but nothing. I tried to change the orientation of the brushes and now it takes a minute or so to show anything at all on the display, strange. Hitting start on a spin cycle it fills up with water and drains but the motor is still not spinning and it does the same jumping to 1 minute and staying there occasionally clocking the relay. Any ideas?
Hi, I’m sorry, I don’t understand all of the references about jumping minutes, do you meant the minutes displayed on the screen jump around? If so, it sounds like you have a control board error. Thanks, Phil
@@NowFixit Sorry, I meant the time on the screen stays at 15 minutes left for a while, I hear the relays clicking several times, there is no movement from the motor at all during this time and then the time changes from 15 minutes to 1 minute and it says it is finished. Everything else seems to work, it fills up with water, and drains, etc, but there is no movement from the motor. I gave up and purchased a new Bosch machine, a series 6, it is incredibly quiet with the brushless motors.
Copy what @postsilv71 said. Had this issue. Read F.21 as a drain issue. Check filter and drainage, all clear except for a 2p coin. Then I found your video specifically for a Bosch. Removed Motor, sure enough brushes were like in your video. Followed your link to Amazon, ordered Friday evening, arrived 8am Saturday morning. Fitted them as per video, put Motor back, followed the rest pattern, still had F.21 error. Done reset a few times then figured it was the other 10% causing F.21. Sunday decided to try and get door open to remove washing, couldn't find a way, then tried the reset again, voila error cleared. My machine is almost identical to the one you're working on, except my spin is not at 6 o'clock, more like 6.35, I have a rinse at 6 I think. Anyway, great work.
We had this washing machine for 19 years and today this code came up, clearing the filters and resetting didn't help. Ordered some brushes, will follow up if this helped, thank you for making this video!
@@NowFixit Unfortunately no, I think maybe there was a short when the brushes failed. After replacing the brushes there was no life from the motor at all, you can hear the relay clicking a few times, no movement whatsoever and then the cycle says it is finished. We replaced it with a new Bosch machine, the series 6, it's MUCH quieter with the brushless motors.
Thank you so much for the very clear and professional useful information! One suggestion: it is important to use some working gloves because the metal frame is quite sharp and…dirty. Stefano
This was absolutely great! Clear instructions, well made video, and managed to fix it. One question, the motor now makes a very whiney noise it didn't make before, any clue why that is?

Sorry it didn’t sort your problem! Great to have you as a subscriber 👍 I’ve had a door that won’t open before and I used some strong string to open the door. Sorry, really hard to explain but I bet there are a few videos on it on RUclips. I haven’t done one yet… Cheers, Phil
