The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function.

Caption correction: 8:46 and 9:43 vilem should be spelt velum; 9:04 and 9:23 vielen to velum; 9:50 villain to velum

Point taken. But surely it is more likely that the very early stage of development will look more similar the more closely related two animals?

Maybe recapitulation would die faster if we took Haeckel's fake drawings out of our biology text books.

They have been, schools no longer teach human embryos have gills. Instead they teach students our current best understanding which is that those are Pharyngeal ridges not gills.

maybe there is capitalization to some degree throughout biology, I don't quite get how you go from this presentation to completely dismissing the idea. I am sure a presentation could be should showing aspects of capitalization is true, in some species, etc etc.

I never thought of recapitulation as absolute, it occurs, but is only part of the whole.
    i.e.
We aught look at the line between recapitulative vs non-recapitulative ontogeny.
