  • Three weeks ago, our oven broke, so we needed to learn how to replace it.
    Although it may seem very easy or simple to some, it didn't to me initially, hence why I felt the need to film it to share with others.
    Please note, this is NOT a tutorial, nor is this sponsored. We already had our electrics done for an oven.
    We bought this A energy rating 2.1KW one from Amazon called Cookology which "you can attach a normal 3 pin plug" of 13AMP as stated in their listing:

    Great job, plenty of space inside. Just a domestic plug too, suppose if it was a free standing oven with four electric hot plates I imagine it would need connecting to the higher amp circuit. Top video again. 😊

      Yes, I think one would too. I like how there's much space in this actual oven than the last too - but my eyes are bigger than my belly 😄

    • @chrismaplethorpe6781

      Free standing would need to be on its own circuit due to load of the cooker. Would be tempted to try and have the oven socket on the existing cooker circuit if possible

      Usually if the oven rating is under 3000kw you can use a regular 13amp plug. Mine is the same, however it is on a separate 32amp oven circuit with a double pole isolating oven switch above the countertop.

    Great job!!! I did a similar swap with my dishwasher, the old unit was unfortunately hardwired into the back of an outlet, the new unit did not have a power cord so I repurposed a power lead from a microwave with a plug and was able to Plug it directly into the outlet when installing it, Making future service much easier

  • @OllyParryJones
    @OllyParryJones 6 лет назад +6

    Good to see how straightforward the installation can be, Vikkie. I hope your new oven serves you much better than the old.
    ...Did I sense lots of hate for the halogen at the beginning?? ;-D
    My limited understanding of electrics is that 2,200w is the maximum you can run on a 13 amp supply (standard three-pin UK plug). For anything larger, you'll need a 16amp socket. Even then, some items (I used to find this with machinery) drawing 2,200w on startup will not run on 13amp. It can be tricky as some manufacturers and retailers don't always state both the input and output (input is usually much higher).

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK
      @TheCarpentersDaughterUK  6 лет назад +1

      Haha, yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of the halogen oven. It's taken a lot of space up on the kitchen counter and I suppose seeing the fat at the bottom never looks pretty lol. Ah, and thanks! I've been worrying about running a future table saw in my garage. Hoping it's straight forward!

    • @robthomas7232
      @robthomas7232 6 лет назад +2

      Olly Parry-Jones, hi actually its more like 3000w you can run off a 13a mains socket, remember Power = Volts X Current. Which in this case is 230 X 13 = 2990. You of course have to be careful not to over load the typically 32a ring main by having multiple appliances on at the same time. Most kettles are 3000w.

    good video. yes, never put those on an extension.
    yuck from when you took the old one out. glad you cleaned that old grease up.
    if your other half had not helped, you could always just set the new stove on a high chair (like a bar stool or similiar) to hold it while you plug in.
    so, now is a good time to bake a cake.
    these short little videos are great. give yourself a big pat on the back.

    Most built in ovens are suitable for using on a 13Amp plug. Even if a fan oven are usually OK. The hob whether built in or part of a free standing cooker are the part that take the biggest load. This will have to be connected by 6mm to a 32amp supply. Had a free standing cooker a couple of years ago that was connected with a piece of normal flex used for extension leads. Bearing in mind it was rated at 10.5kw maximum load and the cable itself was damaged too it was soon condemned and disconnected.

  • @actiongirl5
    @actiongirl5 6 лет назад +1

    I did the same thing myself for the first time a year ago, after our Ikea oven stopped heating. As long as you have the identical requirements and set up for the new one you cannot go wrong. The only issue I had was the length of the flex on the new one was half the length of the one on the old one. So I had to half install the oven whilst balancing with one arm and then squeeze my other arm in around the oven to plug it in, not something I want to do too many time....a shame about the Samsung oven as they are usually pretty good brand. Mind you there are not too many manufacturers that want to genuinely help when things go wrong and it looks like you have had a total nightmare from start to finish with that one. The new one looks great and hopefully your days of bodging the oven to get a hot cooked meal is now over.

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK
      @TheCarpentersDaughterUK  6 лет назад

      Thanks! That sounds like quite a pain, but I'm sure it was worth it 😉 Sadly, my parents bought us the oven longer than two years ago and then we fitted if later, so they said any repairs would cost and there wasn't any point. To be honest, when looking at Samsung replacements, I never saw any good reviews to give me confidence. I love my Samsung mobile though lol

    • @actiongirl5
      @actiongirl5 6 лет назад +1

      It was a massive pain but that pain came in the form of trying to battle with Ikea to replace the thing that was still in warranty.....the oven installation although fiddly was easy compared to dealing with Ikea customer care. I have never had a Samsung kitchen appliance, but they make a lot of hi- tech gear so thought they would make something with all the bells and whistles on that would last at least a few years....clearly not. Note to self to avoid any kitchen appliance made by Samsung....lol.

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK

    Nice job, shame on Samsung! I think the switch to isolate the oven is supposed to be easily accessible, although I don't know if that regulation applies to 2kw built in ones, I'm not a domestic electrician (but I am qualified in electrical engineering).

    • @williamfox4
      @williamfox4 6 лет назад +3

      ForestCat_Peter usually the socket behind the oven doesn’t have a switch, the switch would be outside the cabinet somewhere easier to flick on and off.

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK
      @TheCarpentersDaughterUK  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks :) I tried to get it exchanged, but sadly they didn't want to know as my parents had bought it for us as a gift, but they'd had it much longer than two years. But I think it worked out for the best as I couldn't find any Samsung ovens with good reviews, so may have been back to square one.

    • @imconfused1237
      @imconfused1237 6 лет назад +1

      Will Fox Will is spot on. Usually the 6mm from the CU terminates into a 45a isolator, which doubles up as a spare socket. A non-switched spur is then chased into an outlet behind the oven. Things get fiddly when it requires hard-wiring, but it’d have to be pulling a lot to need that.
      Well done Vikki, excellent job 😊👍

  • @Rabi7468

    • @michaellupton335
      @michaellupton335 5 лет назад

      You need to isolate the cooker safely before extraction. Just pulling the plug does not necessarily make the cooker safe. If there is a faulty wire before extraction, you will not be aware till the cooker is removed. Turn off the switch associated with the oven first. This will disable the live circuit but not necessarily the natural, meaning even with the cooker plug out, the cooker will still have current. Only way to eradicate all thee risks is to turn off the electricity in the house beforehand to be sure. :))

    • @stephennoble2647
      @stephennoble2647 5 лет назад

      @@michaellupton335 if the oven is pulled at the plug there is absolutely no way that oven is getting any power. It works off of a plug. If you pull that plug it's power supply is cut. If the oven in question was hard wired, then sure, you must switch off the power at the mains before disconnecting it, but not when it's plugged. It's like saying if you unplug a television it's still getting power, how, its unplugged? If you bought a new toaster would you switch off the power at the mains before you unplugged the old one and plugged in the new one? No, of course not. Same situation here...
