The power you hear is not entirely realistic, Layne does a lot of overlay mixing to increase the power, since he's the main production man for the group. Low notes don't have much power, but subharmonics don't need a lot of air. With a deep breath, I can hold a E1 (the last note of Oogie Boogie) for about 25 seconds and I'm not a professional singer. Geoff could probably hold it for twice what I can do, considering his training as a singer. Geoff has a bit more power than me due to professional training, but if you hear his tutorial videos, he does explain that you simply can't do much to increase your power in that range. Makes me sad because I've practiced a lot and can sing along with him in his solo videos Blackbird and Misty Mountains Cold etc and match him note for note, I just get very quiet when I sing that low and would need quite a bit of overlay mixing to give my voice any real body.
How is it that they can start off so strong, draw you right in. It's like the initial buildup is the climax.... and still consistently find new ways of embellishing the basic theme of the song throughout the full performance. Musical genius.

And the group handles all their own recording, basic sound engineering, costuming, set design, lighting, video production- they basically do everything themselves. It's really impressive! Although it likely helps that Layne is co-owner of a video production company, along with another former VP member, Tony Wakim. In fact, that's where this video was filmed.

If you want to concentrate on Geoff his cover of "The Headless Horseman" is great. If you want all of them sounding terrific and somewhat theatrical I suggest "Moana" featuring Rachel Potter, or the "Little Mermaid".

You're going to love Geoff's Misty Mountains Cold.. Voiceplay's Warriors is another one worth seeing. Also an old one Phantom of the Opera. But you can't go wrong with VoicePlay.

I have said many times that a collaboration with Geoff, Tim, and Avi would be epic. They all have similar range, but such different tone and texture! RUclips would blow up!
They used the slightly dissonant notes to shift the key, but you don't know where it's going to land and we want our western music to resolve cleanly...otherwise it sounds dissonant which was probably the reason they did it anyway and I just wrote a giant run-on sentence with an incorrect use of ellipsis to make a plainly obvious point. Go me.
