I had this pop up as a modal above the input window in ChatGPT last night. Given that I had issues to actually process requests, I feel like that modal may have been rendered as a mistake?
@@DevelopersDigest I doubt it was a mistake. Plenty of people got it now, especially M1 and Apple Silicon users. And I believe that there's a server side switch type of thing as well and you seem to have access (login access, which some doesn't). If it responds to you now, the error probably was a capacity issue I'm guessing.
The people who have it now were Mac users selected at random to download the app. Those chosen few recieved a pop up to download the app. I'm not sure there is an official download link just yet.

I have serious privacy concerns with this app. How do you know that it is not recording your screen, listening to your microphone or collecting information from your computer without your permission?
I am not worried - there are a lot of eyes on what OpenAI is doing. If they were doing this, it would create a tremendous amount of bad PR. To verify, I am sure there will be many out there monitoring network requests to see what is being sent in payloads to OpenAI
on mac/iOS you get that yellow do whenever any app is using your microphone or camera. Also when your screen is being shared, your Mac will display a "Your screen is being observed" notification
you should be more concerned about the fact they made this for macOS. I know they will make it for windows later on but still macOS is an odd choice. I wish they'd make the desktop app for linux but I mean if they can't even get it right when they release it for macOS then there's no way they could have it up and running on linux.
@Timely-ud4rm macOS development is now easier and has more development ergonomics than windows and linux (for linux they would have to use c/c++ or rust and build the UI almost from scratch, and make sure to have a good build for at least the most used distros). They may have got this app working in a week and a half or so with just swiftUI. And I'm 90% sure they use the same codebase for iOS and ipadOS. It's weird they were allowed to do this for mac first though. Microsoft being the main partner/investor 👀
