  • Vintage Story Desert Life is a desert-themed survival playthough in version 1.19, with a large list of mods to speed up the process of building and chiseling. While our builds will all (or at least mostly) be in the desert, we are not restricted to hot and arid climates for the purposes of gathering materials and resources.
    This series exists as a series of VODs, as well, but for people who prefer their videos in a more manageable length, the VODs will be cut into these shorter episodes and released throughout the week after each livestream, provided that there is enough desire for this format.
    Want to play along? You'll need the world files and all of these mods (likely) in order for it to work. Download links below.

    Watching you make the Langstroth Hives of the From Golden Combs mod and I definitely think I'll just plop down a chest nearby and fill it with all the stuff I need to make the hives. I'm with you on the "It has to go into the backpack slot???!!!!" Aaagh! I think if the hive pot/Langstroth breeder box has bees in it, it's "filled" and only then should it require being placed into the backpack slot.

      Yeah, I'd have a lot less of an issue with the backpack slot bit if I wasn't just going to plop the box down next to where I'm working. As it stands, it just makes it more fiddly.

    I think it would be really cool if you added some slate or other very dark stone to represent "metal slag" around the anvil of the Helve Hammer setup. As if it was a bunch of soot, slag and scrap chips from the smithing process scattered all around the anvil and maybe some densely covered areas nearer the helve hammer rigs and less in the opening you walk into, as if you did a ton of smithing but your repeated walking has cleared a path through the debris.

      That could be a fun detail! I should probably think about replacing the floor with stone first, since a wood floor might be a bit too flammable!

    Did You know that 60 clay shingles will make 40 slanted roofs, but if you first make 24 shingle stairs (out of 36 shingles) you can then add single shingles to them and make a total of 48 slanted roofs.

      I wasn't aware you could actually do that with those recipes. Is that something that the Bricklayers mod adds?

    I was looking through the mods list... there is totally a "visible terra preta" like mod for Meteorites... xD just an idea but it might be useful to quickly recheck some of those known spots for more buried deeper.

      I really think some Suevite blocks would look great on the ceiling or upper walls of a "Sun Temple". It would definitely be a great excuse to go back and get some Suevite and ensure you also got all the meteoric iron from those spots. Might only find a few extra blocks, but it would help with repairing the White Knight armor.

    Awe, "Meteorite" labels and not "Meaty Ore"... xD
    Also you should dig down around the center of the impact sites and around the edges a bit. I have found that many of the Meteorites are in 2 clumps, one usually smaller fracture clumo up at the surface and another clump slightly below.
    Ages ago i had commented that i was mad that you were getting like 6-12 ore blocks per meteorite site where i was lucky if i was getting 3 to 5 ore blocks. I went back like a week later and dug out the suavite and found even more ore blocks just a bit deeper/off to the side of the small cluster i had found previously.

    Yeah... Vinternach is very very hardcore with his mods. Some of it like the overly restriction of backpack slot is stepping into the area of "no longer fun" immersion.

      I'm failing to understand the logic: how and why does restricting these items to a Backpack Slot "increase immersion"?

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  2 месяца назад +5

      Yeah, I talked at length a while back about immersion being fun until it's a chore. This definitely gets up into "chore" area and reminds me of some of the more hardcore and grindy mods in big Feed The Beast modpacks for that other block game.

    Personally, I wish you would give From Golden Combs a chance. I also wish it weren’t so weird with controls, having to place things in such a manner, and being able put them in the regular inventory (a problem I hate with the general games packs and mods like butchery).
    The ceramic pots are so much better for me that the constant build/rebuild and loss of hives from skeps in early game, and I kind of like having something to do in the game other than planting and forging/mining.

    • @Kurazarrh
      @Kurazarrh  2 месяца назад

      I mean... I am giving From Golden Combs a chance, just that I'm giving my thoughts about the experience in real-time. I think it's a really NEAT mod, but I don't know yet if I really LIKE it. I'm somewhat predisposed to disliking things that are fiddly or that require a lot of effort without a commensurate increase in efficiency or efficacy. From what I see with FGC so far, the Langstroth hives seem to be best for people who only want to check their bees every couple months, or if you have limited space for bees.

    • @Bromon655
      @Bromon655 2 месяца назад +1

      I agree about the ceramic hives. Harvesting and rebuilding skeps is one of the most tedious aspects of the game for me. Skeps are primitive and should be an early-game item only.

      @@Kurazarrh That is fair. You did go through the motions.
      I got the impression that you weren’t looking forward to it when it was talked about episodes ago. When I watched this, it felt so much like you were being forced to review something you didn’t enjoy.
      To me, it’s a filler for something to do that does provide an up front trade off of resources and time to produce a bit more later (I don’t know the numbers, so I could be off).
      When I say “give it a chance”, it’s not necessarily I’m saying that you didn’t try. I’m saying it might be something to come back to again and maybe it could grow on you. It’s totally your choice, or course/obviously. Don’t go changing things based on some dumb comment on YT.
