      If you are PR, good to buy! As the ABSD is only 5%. You never know when it will increase. As for Foreigner, the 60% is just too much to swallow. So apply for PR!

    All thanks to PAP govt. So many foreigners particularly ang moh are amazed at singapore achievements and love staying here even more than their own country. Angmoh always talk about how things are done here how singapore ranks no 1 in so many things but the credit goes to the excellent long term thinking governance.

      The PAP were given a MASSIVE head start by the former British colonial system and LKY acknowledged this in his biography Singapore Story. While most former colonies tried to sweep the British contribution under the carpet LKY decided to capitalise it and build on top of it. Stop acting like the PAP could have done all this without that massive headstart when PAP's own leader said it was an ESSENTIAL building block

      Hong Kong while under British rule FAR outpaced Singapore's success in EVERY metric until the handover in 1997 when PRC came in and started taking a wrecking ball to the economy. The PAP are competent yes but even they could not compete with British-ruled Hong Kong. Know your history and get your facts correct.

    She's right about the British weather. If you're lucky, you get about two weeks of continuous bright sunshine and warm weather in the summer, the occasional short "heatwave" of a few days and the rest of the summer consisting of damp, cloudy and chilly weather. Then, there's the winter to come which can last until April.

    I believe that you will live longer if you retire in a tropical place instead of a location with a cold and miserable climate, like the UK. In cold places, retirees tend to stay indoors more, as compared to tropical locations where retirees are more likely to lead active lives and spend more time outdoors. You can actually retire in Singapore affordably if you own a place, are debt-free, and have health insurance coverage. Eating hawker food is much cheaper in Singapore than eating out in the UK. One can retire in Singapore as a Permanent Resident and still enjoy the benefits given to a British citizen by the British Government.

Some went back to their home country for a while n came back with a new job.

    Stamp duty on foreigners of 60%, just makes prices go even more crazy. Chinese investors buy up big chunks of new developments, and they're not hurt by the stamp duty, they just borrow the required investment sum from a bank, and they'll calculate it in the rental prices ;)

      @balisaani Год назад

      Of course, but also "westerners" like that everyone speaks English in Singapore (more rather than less), and also the country is easier to navigate (no moving goal posts). When a process is said to take 30 days (to get a permit, or other paper) in Singapore, it takes 30 days. Not 1 if you pay extra, not 100 if you don't. Other than that, yes, China has a lot more options and is worth experiencing, of course (as have I). Each has their Pros and Cons, and everyone has their preferences.
