Why do you demand an answer to an invalid question of science. Your 2000 yr old goat hearders testimony has all the answers. That's your science book. Just believe, or not.
This show is perfect and an answered prayer of sorts ,I am a former Christian now Agnostic and Atheist in most of my thought but still find interest in hearing people try and make arguments either side is interesting for me to hear and try to study on precepts.
I am a buddhist that is testing out the waters with christianity, there have been so many coincidences that it has really made me think about going to church to find out what it is about

It's not science and religion at war at present, but science at war with appropriate and fit reasoning looking toward higher ideals.
I saws a documentary on this topic many years ago where one of the people being interviewed put it best. He talked about how The Enlightenment and the Reformation worked almost in harmony to create the conflict between science and religion. Galileo pointed his telescope into the heavens and science moved from studying the small to studying the large. The Reformation moved the spiritual telescope away from the heavens and religion started focusing on the small rather than the large, (i.e., our personal relationship with God). But here's the thing, I have watched quite a few videos in this series. I find them quite interesting and thought provoking, but he keeps saying the same thing, "I want to believe in God." At some point, I have to wonder if he really does. Jesus said to Thomas: "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen yet believe." Faith requires faith I suppose. I get the sense this guy is more interested in chasing the truth than he is in catching it. I like his videos though because they do force me to think.

For some reason people feel threatened if you think differently then themselves. Live and let live is my motto, I never try to convince people to think the way I do. It’s a waste of energy and time.
I wonder what happens when you ask a Scientist if evil exists in the world? Is there any "real" evidence that it does? Can you prove it?
I suspect a real scientist would say that the question is a moral one and could not be addressed via science.
Science can only deal with what is. Morality deals with the way things should be. Calling something evil is a statement that something is not the way it should be.
From the scientific viewpoint, morality and philosophical ideas aren't valid.
Asking a scientist, the answer would be "yes". Asking Sience, one gets a silent stare.

Robert Kuhns initial statement that as science advances its grabs more away from the religous domains is patently false; in fact as science has advanced it has discovered more and more its limited knowledge or how limited science is (we see (know) we only know 5% universe contents) and 95% now appears unknown. Leaving more truths for religion to fill in by default.
Maybe the subject matter of the subject called matter and energy is in unknown information.
Or. Maybe as David Bohm said matter is empty and space is full, is more truthful, as I think.
Maybe, Robert Kuhn could believe in God by "accepting" that there is at least One Thing ,(the Foundation), that exists beyond all illusions?? Only he can say.

The modern view of science and religion is historically distorted. Religion and religious answers dominated ancient society. The same human questions of emotional curiosity about human existence, cosmic existence etc drove religious thinkers and later scientific thinkers.
Problem with religion, people can and do make up what ever they want to, even to the point they have opposing doctrines, even within the same religion.

Science has become the religious cult of bumping particles and mathematics.
If your going to discuss the validity of fairy tales and myths that have no basis in fact or any substantial evidence what so ever, you will never leave the church parking lot. That is the logic. Waste your life away discussing nonsense when you could be applieing science and actually be discerning fact from fiction. The only answer to the God question is " I don't know." Because nobody does.
There is nothing wrong with good science...It becomes problematic when scientists want their preconceived ideas to be proven true at all cost, and often by ignoring evidence against their beliefs...

From the point of view of Evolution they do. Darwin proposed natural selection guided or caused by the genetic mechanism. Although he couldn't refute artificial selection: human interference in genetic manipulation - breeding of wolves into dogs; he refuted intellectual causation or evolution by intellect or intention as espoused by Lamarck.
But isn't technology forcing us to confront Lamarck? Isnt science a form of intellectual evolution that is in direct competition with genetic evolution? A battle of causations? Or perhaps a battle of causation versus creation?

I believe that depends on what religion. They vary radically on a global scale.

I think we have to consider truth as something that is visible, repeatable, testable, verifiable etc. But I do realize there is gray area because we don't know everything.
Beyond that we have theories.

Division between domains deny The Truth
Science and religion are separate worlds that can work together where there is common ground. May need dialogue to find common ground. Does not appear to be need for conflict, could happen in the natural course of things. Would be good if at least a tiny part could be integrated, may take awhile if ever and cant be forced or hurried.

At least since Aquinas Catholisism fully integrated science. Alas most laymen don't know about the dogma addressing the relation of scripture and science as Thomas introduced it.
I'm afraid most christian denominations that separated from the catholic church don't know about this dogma either.

My number one reason against Religion -- by its rotten fruits, its consistent moral and intellectual failures you shall know Religion.
Science may actually describe some laws from fairly high Gods, the physical laws? But they are the framework which life in the physical realm exists within. In other realms which has an intersection with the physical laws other laws may exist. Laws that are not just a formula but life being free to do what it wants within some limits, but which consequences of course?

Expect religion sure spends a lot of time telling us what we should do. Robert, I love your distrust of peak experiences. I have had two experiences I'd describe as ecstatic unity spiritual experiences and they really got me wondering, especially when I had a period of unusual clarity for days afterwards. It felt like unconditional love, but from whom or what?
Ultimately, I don't know if they were just dopamine spikes, triggered by a strong sense of wellbeing (which preceded each experience). Yet I am loathe to try to induce those experiences, to sanctify or to commodify them in case I fool myself. They were incredible and, yes, the second one was a tad scary in some ways, but I don't want to jump to conclusions, to fool myself.
It's true that no words can describe such experiences, but that is hardly the fault of science. There are plenty of other experiences that are impossible to quite capture in words too, hence the Mary's Room thought experiment.
When a god actually speaks up, I will listen.

The mysteries that science has its hands on are still mysteries. Its solutions are mere techniques. Techniques that have at their heart causation. Causation backed by heuristic theories. Causation is not Creation however. Heuristic theories are not dogma, which is an improvement.
Concensus in science, however, is just as invalid as dogma in religion. That is, current understanding is not complete understanding. What we know or practice today is necessary to our endeavors but they are not sufficient to the scope of our endeavors. To cross a river we can jump, swim, build a bridge, fly, tunnel. Each one is successful but is one necessary AND sufficient. How to judge? What standard suffices for which meaning or intention; definition or desire?
The war with science and religion may be lost at the start. Causation cannot cancel creation, description cannot make explanation extraneous.
Is there a meaning that is equivalent to an intention? If there is that would be a good place to start. If there is a gap you can start there as well but the meaning would have more than one intention; or the intention can have more than one meaning.
For thousands of years, humans functioned in kind of a harmonious “paradigm bubble” in which science and spirituality were not at odds with each other (at least not to the degree we are presently witnessing).
However, because the mythological nonsense of the old religions has been left floundering in the wake of the modern discoveries in the sciences, the *tentative* harmony that once existed between science and spirituality has been severely thrown out of whack.
I have often portrayed the ascension of modern science (i.e., quantum physics, astrophysics, biology, etc.) in the metaphorical terms of being like a frantically flapping butterfly wing that is in desperate need of the symmetry of its other wing (spirituality) which is still stuck in the chrysalis of archaic beliefs.
In other words, we need a new spiritual “mythology” that can exist in harmony with our advanced understanding of the universe.
Now I’m pretty sure I know what the atheists and materialists are probably thinking...
...They are thinking: why replace the old mythology? Why not just be done with any form of religious and supernatural thought altogether?
Well, firstly, such a tunnel-vision perspective of the universe suggests that they are sleep-walking through life, and that the “illusion” of objective reality has them completely under its thrall.
And secondly, for anyone to expect billions of humans to summarily relinquish the “hope” that there may be more to life than the few fleeting moments we spend on earth, is absurd and will *never* be acceptable to the vast majority of humans on earth.
Hence, we need a “new paradigm bubble” in which science and spirituality can once again function in a tentative state of peace and harmony.

As a hypothetical situation, imagine that God decides to reveal himself to humanity, and in that revealing, God also lets us know that at the moment of death we are each guaranteed (no matter what) to awaken into a higher (transcendent) context of reality in a new and wondrous form (indeed, the same form as God). And to top it off, it is revealed to us that without facing any kind of judgment or punishment, we have the free choice of entering into this higher context of reality any time we wish.
Again, keeping in mind that this is just a hypothetical thought experiment, what do you suppose humans would do?

If religion and science are in conflict, pray for science !!!
"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.' - James 1:27. If that is what religion is, then how can science be against it in any way?
Religion should then retreat to claims associated with that definition, and it has and will continue to do so. After which it seems the only war that should remain will be where science ventures into those boundaries established by this definition.
What does science have to say about the defiling nature of "the world", or the concomitant need for a savior to aid in being "unspotted" (which has implications for space-time). There are clearly some overlaps in intellectual pursuits where neither religion nor science over reach and they both exist in the same space... this is where the war belongs and both have a rightful place.
Those places are in the great unknowns. Free will. Consciousness. Conscience. The mathematical improbability of our existence (sans some theoretical multiverse acrobatics). Perhaps even the quantum realm, if for no other reason than this: in these great unknowns religion claims to have answers where science does not and where science has no evidence against the religious claims.
And yet religion, at least my religion welcomes science there. Why can't science be equally accommodating?
Because religion is not based on logic and reason , it is based on feelings and emotions.
Logic and reason are also part of consciousness, emotion and feelings are not exclusive. consciousness is a sum of the collective. Being aware.
That is not what draws people to religion, people want answers to questions.

Science and religion both have a proper place, and there is some overlap, but for the most part I don't see why they have to be in competition if neither oversteps; religion comparing spiritual with spiritual, and science comparing temporal with temporal.
@@davidaustin6962 I see no war personally but there are fundamentalists on each side that stir the pot. People who believe that their book or latest theory is infallible. If that is the case than there will be problems, not if you stay in your own lane but they never do. Science can not give the answers that religious people want and visa versa.
Science is man's limited knowledge of an infinite God.
Does science deserve the place it claims it does? Has science created life? Has science even recreated life? If intelligent science re-creates life, will this be proof that random processes, sheer dumb luck created life? Or rather that abiogenesis required intelligence? When, or if, science proves the fundamentals of life have been solved, we can talk...until then... science can do the hand-waving...

I do not understand why my Nitty-Getty keep washing away from any futuristic remembrance. No matter how minuscule are they in influencing and impacting my behavior in cognitive though much untraceable with causations percolating on whatever minutest patterns. What is that emergence of sparks lineation connection things as reference integrating in that typical and unique instant behavior? Perhaps that defines the nature of behavior. But they unknowns seems controlling my actions, reactions and interactions out-bursting through regressive line of stocked pattern, embedded gluing through random encountered experiences, felt under varying situations conditions and circumstances. What is that behavioral mechanics? Is this some kind of fine tuning in an effort of filling gap between the disintegrated worlds of physicality and spirituality, characteristics communique at un-deterministic levels or level? Believe me, I am falling short of words, to reflect upon matching my exact feels, that furthering me to create my own persona equating coining with some new words that should coagulate the exactness of my felt realized ought to be same as reflecting my feels
Lol. Science is looking for answers. Religion says, "No you don't". That's hardly a war. It's more like a little kid throwing sticks at the back of your head. (Ya, this is oversimplified and I realize there are many thousands of religious doctrines and not all of them against scientific discovery)

I always find it humorous when people have science v Religion arguments for the mere fact that the is no such tussle in reality. People make it seem as though religion is this one thing making a single claim and on the other side science is making a single claim. There is usually no concensus in both fields and if this is true, then how can this fight even exist

@@oskarngo9138 well science itself does not say that evolution is true, a scientific theory does. On the other hand religion itself does not say that God Created the world , religious worldviews do. Not every religious view posits a God. Even among those religious worldviews that postulate God , there are always variances in the creation accounts that they give. Science v religion is nothing but a superficial debate that keeps people blinded to where the real battles are and that is between scientific theories and religious worldviews. Not between science and religion for they don't say anything in and of themselves.

Hi, never I say religion is no good, I say it got real life treating for pope François, first I say that because I feel if I Do this it probably be ok on the long run because the second it's About true. Look religion have been their on Earth for so long. Many issue in the pass , that today we are able to read old texte, and fit the world we l race on now. To me its a real source of inspiration.
