Crib Goch - A Majestic Winter Traverse in the snow - Filmed entirely on DJI Mini 3 Pro

- Crib Goch is my favourite ridge in Eryri (Snowdonia) and it is wonderful at any time of year. When it gets its winter coat it truly is majestic, rivalling any ridge anywhere for drama.
In this episode of my Mountain Days Vlog series I head up onto Crib Goch on a December afternoon in 2023, the weather forecast promising a break in the weather but the thick cloud making it seem unlikely. As I question my sanity the cloud starts to break and it all suddenly becomes worthwhile.
Filmed entirely on DJI Mini 3 Pro with the audio on a Tentacle Sync.

Wow 😯
These videos do not get the credit they deserve! Beautifully shot, fantastic sound track and your commentary is spot on each time. Talking when neccassary and then letting the footage do the rest! Wonderful!
Thanks very much Jim. I enjoy making them when I’ve got the time and the conditions allow me to show the mountains off. I think if I wanted to hit the YT algorithms I’d need to make more videos and be more regular with them. It’s ace reading comments like yours and meeting people in the hills who enjoy them and I also enjoy having the memories for me to look back on too 😀👍
Beautiful. Well done 👏
I've done this route a few times and not been so lucky with the weather. you've caught this footage on a great day.
Makes me want to get my boots on😂
Fab! Flew over there that weekend but couldn't see a thing below the cloud at 4000'
Amazing, did in July in wind and rain.
Beautifully solitary Rob...the mountains are made for the winter! Although they're amazing all year round!
Yes they are!
amazing
Just one word .. MAGICAL !!
I liked the video very much, thanks you for sharing, stay safe, stay blessed
Fabulously filmed. Best wishes for 2024.
Thank you and the same to you and yours 🙂
Magical!
Beautiful Rob, thanks for sharing

Absolutely stunning
That’s brilliant Rob thanks for sharing.
beautiful video
Lovely short film here Rob and some beautiful shots! Been up Crib Goch a few times myself but only in the summer months! Would love to take it on under these conditions!
It's pretty special with it's winter coat on :-)
@@RobJohnson majestic 😍🏔️
nice one matey...
A beautiful part of the world wonderfully captured.
Love all of your videos Rob, but this one is quite magical.
Beautiful Rob, shot masterfully. Crib Goch and Yr Wyddfa looking super dramatic in their winter clothes! Love it Rob, just need some more snow now :)
Wow!! Fantastic shots. Great job on the video.
Absolutely sublime Rob 😍Well-worth the effort to capture that ethereal atmosphere. Right up there with your winter traverse of Clach Glas 👏👏
Thanks Ian, yes that was another amazing day! Slightly bitter sweet in that we then entered lockdown about a week after!
@@RobJohnson Just goes to show that you have to seize the day Rob. 💪
Short, sweet - and inspiring! Love it Rob. Thanks for sharing.
Just magnificent. Thank you!
How your videos aint got millions of views I don't know? Best mountain videos on here. We have crossed paths a few times in the mountains Rob. Your a great guy and hopefully will bump into you again one day
That's very kind, thanks very much.
Some really good shots in there! Well done
Fantastic views and video ❄️👍
Very beautiful, thank you for taking us along 😊 I've subscribed so will look forward to your next outing!
Thanks very much and thanks for the subscribe :-)
How do you take off your drone?
Out of your hand?
I’d be scared getting it out in those conditions
Yes that's right and then I catch it on landing. It is easy enough with a bit of practise, worth putting it in cinematic mode to slow it down for the catch.
Wow! Really good, I loved the wide pan shots. Fingers crossed for a good winter season in Eryri and lots more content from you :-)
Thanks Nigel, I will do my best 🙂
Outstanding Rob looked a great day even with the cloud, I hope me and Dylan will see you soon (he's climbing V7 now)
Bloody hell, he's strong that lad 🙂
Awesome video Rob... not been out yet this year but will be over Xmas. Hoping for limited thaws!
Thanks John and here's to some more conditions like that 🙂
Could you kindly recommend me some crampons or the ones you use please?
Great video 🏴
@@185jonesy It depends on what you want to use them for and which boots you’re using with them.
Hi Rob - great video, any tips on keeping the batteries warm enough for footage? I get warnings about temperature sometimes while in snowy / freezing conditions.
Thanks very much. I keep the spares in an inside pocket so they are warm at changeover and I also carry the drone in a pocket when I’m not flying it which seems to help. 👍
Hi Rob, incredible footage! You have a very well earned new subscriber! I'm fairly new to film making and love my new DJI Mini 3, I'm finding it tough filming when it's this cold on the mountain though, so very well done getting such great footage. Can I also ask how your drone copes in the mist? I had mine out a few weeks ago on top of Causey Pike in the Lakes, misty conditions and it really struggled, it kept trying to land itself everytime it was in the mist, almost like it thought the mist was a solid surface. Do you have any similar issues with yours? Andy
Yes I get exactly the same issues. I’m guessing if you turned off the collision avoidance it would avoid them but I just send it up a bit when it goes into the auto landing mode in the mist and that seems to do the trick. Other than that it’s just about keeping the lens clean and that was a challenge on this day with the drone in the cloud occasionally.
Yes, I think that's what I tried to do, put it higher up then being it down again. All a learning curve. It's a shame as the shots in the mist are so spectacular, probably explains why you don't see a lot of people filming them! @@RobJohnson
Can you fly drones near Snowdon? Isn’t it restricted area?
