Hold on, lemme see if I can make a (somewhat) plausible explanation of this au: in 1972, the capitalist USA hits a recession, which effects its neighbors, mainly Canada causing many Canadians to lose hope in capitalism. Therefore in 1972 a new political party was founded, known as People for Canada, which hoped to take away from capitalism into moderate socialism. They won the next parliamentary elections, and due to the soviets not being effected by the crisis due to not being in the American sphere, the new PM decided to establish good relations with the soviets in hopes of economic aid. This (obviously) scared the USA, which then proceeded to prepare a coup with the Liberal party, which ended up succeeding, only for the people for Canada to ally with the 2 communist party’s ( the communist party of Canada (CPC) and the Marxist-Leninist (CPC-ML) party) to launch a counter coup with soviet aid, which also succeeds. The soviets then instated the communist party until elections could be held. Controlled elections with only 4 party’s to vote for , those being Marxist Leninist, communist, people for canada, and New Democrat Party, in addition, the parliament was reduced into just around 100 seats, with the New Democrat Party gaining 11 seats, Marxist Leninist gaining 15 seats, the people for Canada ( which at this point had radicalized into more bukharinist communism) getting 33 seats, and the communist party getting 41 seats. However that was not a majority so they made a coalition with the Marxist Leninist party, with that total being 56, which was a majority, but not a supermajority, and with the NDP and people for Canada party’s blocking any communist attempt to dismiss or dismantle the parliament is where we sit today, the communist party currently sits at around 43 seats, with Marxist Leninist getting 9 seats, with the opposition coalition of New Democrat and people for Canada party getting a combined total of 48 seats (35 for people, 13 for New Democrat )
Edit: replaced labour with New Democrat party due to the former stopped existing in 1921 and the latter being founded in 1961

Marxist Leninist: if you’ll notice it’s numbers have dropped, as in this universe as with our own, the personality cult around hardial bains is still created, but it stays Stalinist, in a Khrushchev/Brezhnev Soviet Union which was a recipe for disaster for the cpc-ml.
New Democrat : it’s popularity fluctuates between really high seats and low seats because of 1 factor, how radical its leader is, if he’s less radical, it attracts more of the liberal/ centre left voters that normally wouldn’t be voting, and if it’s more radical is siphons off of the PfC, and loses those moderate leftists
