Good information. I was concerned that my first apricot to bloom did not have any other tree in bloom. Now, all I need to worry about is "late frost". Thanks Mid-Missouri zone 6b
Thanks! Most apricots varieties are self-pollinating so you are likely fine. Best of luck with your trees and the weather. I just bought 3 Kieffer pear trees. Kieffer is said to have been an accidental cross between a European and an Oriental pear in colonial times. Two different reputable online nurseries said they are self-fertile but provide a better crop when planted in multiples. You are saying pears are not self fertile. I am in north Georgia, zone 7, hot and high humidity in summer. If I really do need another variety, what variety can you suggest? Thank you.
Yes, you do need another variety of pair for the cross-pollination. Our climate is very different here in CA (cool coastal climate with low humidity) and our experience is with trees that grow well in this climate. It would probably be best to contact a local expert on tree choice for your area. Good question. Thin all but the one or two largest fruits per cluster when the fruit is about the size of a small cherry.
