    Absolutely love that y'all operate with so much body under flag!! So many teams avoid that with their flags and only dance when their hands are empty.

      You’re starting colorguard or did a year ago? How do you like it? I loved it when I did it. But take a lesson from these girls, when you toss your flag only your throwing hand stays up straight in the air, your other hand or “free hand” should immediately drop down to your side like touching your leg. Then as the flag comes down you reach that hand back up to grab it. My coach was always yelling “free hand!!!” And I can completely understand why, it looks so much cleaner when you do it that way, most bands/colorguards should be teaching you that anyway. It definitely worked for our team we won a bunch of competitions, and my coach was a former LSU colorguard so she learned most of her stuff from there and most college teams are gonna be strict on stuff like that.

      @@javoy0200well how did it go? Do you like colorguard? As I was telling the person above you just be very mindful of your free hand when you do a toss. These girls have so much sass and so much potential but every time they tossed all I could see was both their hands up in the air vent waiting for the flag. Collegiate teams and really any good coach is going to be on your butt about your “free hand” when you toss only your tossing hand should be in the air, straight up, and the free hand should immediately drop to your side touching your leg, then when the flag starts to drop then you put your free hand up to grab the bottom of the pole and your tossing hand grabs the flag part (that’s for most typical tosses obviously there’s different rules for different types of tossses)

    There is so much energy in this performance and that is an incredible color guard quality… but the angles are off, the tosses aren’t equal, and they aren’t together, they have a LOT of talent, it just needs to be cultivated

    • @Lacideshae
      @Lacideshae 9 месяцев назад

      Agreed. They have so much potential. They just don’t seem to be counting, maybe they’re trying to go by the music and that’s throwing them off. Also idk if every coach teaches this but mine was a stickler about our “free hand” during a toss. It had to be flat by our side. It looks sloppy when both your hands are in the air especially like bent like that waiting to grab the flag. When we did tosses our right arm would stay straight in the air during the toss and left hand would immediately slap down to our side until we had to reach to grab the flag. I used to get so mad when she would yell “free hand!!!!” But now watching other colorguard years later I completely understand why she drilled that into us. And that’s why we won so many competitions lol

    • @aidenhatcher9004
      @aidenhatcher9004 4 месяца назад

      Yeah, their technique is just overall lacking. They have the basis of their tosses, but the technique in regards to the toss and their free hands needs more definition and clarification. Aside from the tosses, their planing is inconsistent and their timing isn't clear. Then again, some of the issues could also be the flag work in itself, as the flag seems to be more of a dance prop rather than an extension of themselves in some parts (and the silks are moving weird. I don't know though, is it just me?) They know what they are doing, but they need more defining!

      That would be pretty cool. We used to lay flat on our backs and do basically what they did, we called it the helicopter lol. We did it while standing and while laying on our back, so I bet the Aerial view of that part would have been awesome

  • @jorjaevans9862
    @jorjaevans9862 3 года назад +60

    I'm gonna be honest.... your angles are all over the place and some of you are WAYYY ahead then the others. Some of you are tossing to high and some are tossing to low. The energy is there and the dancing is good but your flag work needs A LOT of work. I love your marching band and for that year you just didn't do the best work I know that colorguard can do.

      @@deanne. they’re okay at guard, but their energy and choreo for their body was better, I’m in guard and I’ve been in it for a few years and their flag work was very all over the place and their angles were very off, they looked like they were counting music and not counts which is an issue and why they were too early or to late, they were good tho just not great

      @@fbi6515 I agree. This performance was pretty early in the season. Dancing and proper technique is difficult to do simultaneously. I bet that's why few colorguards do it. When it comes to hbcu Norfolk State Flag lines is the most together and precise.
