Gentle Giant’s albums featured many songs with both literary subjects as well as social and personal commentary on life as rock musicians. “Free Hand” has more than most. The album’s title & first track was named “Freehand” because the band had just changed record labels and management and felt unshackled by prior contractual obligations. Putting these issues behind them upon its first release, Gentle Giant embarked on an extensive tour of North America and Europe, plus a short tour of the UK, to promote the album.
The incredible range of Gentle Giant's music is evident throughout this album. From the intricate vocal fretwork of “On Reflection” and the delicate medieval flavor of “Talybont” the Celtic-tinged rock of “Time To Kill” and the jagged rhythms of “Just The Same” all those diverse elements which made the band so strikingly original are skillfully blended and perfectly executed.

My first gentle giant album was aquiring the taste. My first impression was king crimson, and yes had a baby, and then somehow, Genesis(Peter Gabriel era), and elp got mixed in there, too, although Greg lake was in KK , and elp, and that was my first impression of GG, they sounded like all those other early 70s English prog bands, but they had these parts! Little bits and pieces that made them like none of the others! That's why GG is probably my favorite early 70s eng prog rock band! Oh, yeah...I was about 14 or15 when I heard my first GG song, ever. There was a radio station in az called kstm that played deep trax from classic rock mostly between mid ,60s to mid, late 70s. That station was the shit! I mean, they played frank Zappa! That's how awesome that station was! Anyway, the first ever gentle giant song I ever heard was Wreck. I turned that shit all the way up, and fukkin waited for the end of the song, so I could hear the dj, tell me what the fuck I was listening to. That's when I fell in love with the mighty giant! And actually, to this day, I still think the main riff in wreck is very early Jethro Tull-ish! Anyway, gawdz bless the gentle giant s! Wherever they are! How bout a comeback album?... just for shitsandgiggles! No, seriously!

Just utterly fantastic musicians each hugely talented in his own right, unselfishly interplaying with each other. Will we ever see their like again? Come on Kerry - shake off that writer's block. We love your stuff man.

Superb! Steven Wilson gaves clarity to the mix. It seems it was recorded today! The music, of course, is amazing. Gentle Giant is one of the best ever! Congrats to Noah Shulman for the very nice clip!

I was lucky to be able to see Gentle Giant 1975 the band that was on the same bill...Strawbs what a great show it was...one of my all time favorites. Neither band was a "household name" but OMG excellent prog by any standard. Gentle Giant and Strawbs together WOW! BTW tickets were $5.00 in advance $6.00 at the door.

Excellent video, for a brilliant song. The remix is fantastic too. Minnear's parts sound better than ever, as does Ray. Now I really want to hear what Mr Wilson can do with Acquiring the Taste. Please make it happen GG.🙏

Problem is, they don't have complete multi-track tapes from ATT, their debut, or In a Glass House, which is why they haven't done them yet.

Three Piece Suite contains all the remixes that could be done for the first 3 albums.
      Or so I read.

I'm diggin' the video! Listening to the most prog-rock band of the 70s prog bands, and watching a very terry Gilliam style animation... It doesn't get better than that! I praise yer effort. Very beautiful! I fukkin luv it!
