Fascinating. I never knew these had this design. I remember old some old school Yamahas had engine coolant routed to the carbs, but had never heard of engine oil. My RD350LC could have used this feature, as when riding in colder temps (Canada) it's carb slides would often freeze, causing some...interesting situations with a wide open throttle, when you least wanted it. I knocked a Petrol pump clear off its base once, with surprise uncontrolled wheelie when pulling in for a fill up.

It’s a first for me, meeting oil heated carbs. Love the RD350 memory !

That was a superb video. I had no idea how complicated it would be. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Thank you ever so much. First time I’ve met oil heated carbs. Imagine if I make a mistake, one tiny mistake and they leak! I need to be on my A-Game

I really needed to see how you handled those oil carbs, such a funny fix for heated carbs.

The carb warmers are a great idea... until you need to work on the carbs! 😀

The oil heaters work, sort of, to stop carb icing. Later models were electrically heated, but tbh not much better. Mine are oil, but still would carb ice like mad if outside temps were under 15c or so IIRC. Best solution is just use Silkolene Pro FST in the tank which absorbs the moisture in the petrol and makes it combustible rather than letting it freeze on the jets and actually cures the problem. Riding for an hour and half down the M3 in November was fun, even more so when the throttle wouldn't 'throttle off' and the bike kept charging on when I came off the motorway... Had to kill switch and sit and wait for it to thaw. Such fun...

@MotoTingle Awesome bikes, aren't they? I just found your series and it's good inspiration to get on with mine as soon as I can move again and bring it home. I commented about it on the first vid in this series

Top job fella. Could have done with carb warmers on my old ZX9R. Bologna engineering!

My 2001. Ducati has tiny electric heaters that plug into the carbs. So much easier than these oil fed ones. Crazy complex
