this is from an album named "Quarters", which is comprised of 4 songs, each 10:10 long. it's sort of the start of a long run of albums of various concepts (their second album really is their first concept album though). the live version of this song on KEXP (the whole session really) is what sold me on this band, definitely worth checking out!
Album six, "Quarters"! Four songs, each 10 minutes and 10 seconds long, of sick ass psychedelic jazz rock. Here are quotes from both Stu AND Lucas about it: "In my bedroom in our house outside Northcote station with a borrowed loop pedal and a busted guitar. Spending hours looping cyclical chord progressions to drown out the train and the flood of people pouring in and out of the station. Eventually, I found the melodies that I knew were there. Notes pulled out of the whitewash of chords. /// Back on the road, we booked a single day at the legendary Daptone Studios in Brooklyn. The day before the session was spent in a tiny, cramped New York apartment rehearsing the loop pedal songs (without the loop pedal) with unplugged electric guitars and drumsticks bashing on cushions. This was the first time we’d played these songs together. That might sound crazy (lazy?) but the point was to capture the loose vibe that radiates from a first jam session. And so it was. /// Tracking day. We played each song around 6 times, kept all the takes, then stitched the best parts together. It was a good way to do it, because as with any jam session, there was heaps of boring stuff so we deleted all of that! No computers at Daptone meant we cut and pasted bits of magnetic tape together for the edits. Fun stuff. /// A couple of months later, still on the road, we booked a rehearsal room in London and Ambrose and I went in for a day and recorded overdubs. It was a sad, lonely room with black carpet on the walls. But we needed to finish the record. We did more overdubs in green rooms and in the van too. I remember recording harmonica in in the channel tunnel. /// The familiar sound of a chugging train… Back home I converted an old VHS player into a reel to reel tape recorder, finished the album and bounced it down to VHS. My room became a huge mess of unspooled tape. But it was ok, because Quarters was finished, we were back where we started and ready to start another cycle. Love, Stu xoxox" "We returned to Daptone for a second time to record this one, but this time with less of a plan. We had rented a big ol’ house in upstate New York for a month to record in and we’d come down for weekends to play shows and record. We all went a bit crazy up there and got total cabin fever. Stu had 4 loose jams that felt in the pocket - so we went in there with hardly any structure and just kind of threw a few takes on the wall to see what stuck. The River felt like a big turning point - I think we kind of tricked ourselves into thinking we could play Jazz. Again with Wayne on the tape and the faders - we were getting to know each other and really starting to gel. This whole record was really unfussy and fell right into place. Lukey xo"
Ah man. This track never fails to put me in the comfort zone. Can't wait for you to revisit it Live as it can morph into a completely different vibe. The Evil River my man. Mark it down for later because it is The River that also is intent on melting your face off.
2:34 The initiation is that you need to crowdsurf at the next KG show you can make it to. Edit: Not to this song though. When they play this song everybody in the crowd who knows sits down and starts rowing.
lol 😄glad you made it through the early stuff. Even as a die hard gizz fan, I don't really listen to the early stuff. Looking forward to all the fun ahead!
Jason Galea did the video. he also does all their album art, live visuals, merch, etc ... he's essentially a member of the band
got it, that Jason guy is talented!

That very cool to have the name so heavily linked to the way the album was constructed.....Thanks!
This is a great song you're finally starting to get into into the good shit
Agreed....I'm psyched!
Such a classic tune
it's a good one!

This is cool.....Which one is Stu and which one is Lukey?
@@DadJamsStu is lead vocals and guitar, Lucas is Bass
Nice one. First time I’ve watched that video. Great song. The crocodile character will be back
Thanks and noted on the crocodile!! Thanks for watching!
Woo! This is a great live jam. They often get heavy
That's what everyone is saying....will definitely do a live version when I'm done with these videos!
They only keep getting better.
That's what I hear!

oooh deal! So many live versions to dive into once I've gotten through all of the videos!
I knew you would enjoy this one, such a great song and equally cool music video! Jason Galea is the perfect visual match to the band’s trippy sound.
100%....We're Back!
"have there been any lyrics so far? I can't even remember" LOL we are so back!
hahahaha, definitely back!
Woo! 🚣
Woo back to you!

that's a DEAL!
my favorite gizz song 🔥
It's a good one!
by the time you get through all these, there will be another album or two out already
hahah, probably....the never ending journey...seems fitting for it to be with a band like the King G
4 transitions in the song hence the album Quarters :)
Not quite, 4 songs, each 10:10 on the album, which is why the album is called quaters.
i thought it was both?
I didn't even know the album was called quarters!
most listened to song in the past two years. their best. trust in it.
The King G has my trust....they better not break it.
@ they gonna make you eat those words brother 😈
From now foward it gets better, Microtonal banana is when they got in my radar, after that things get even crazier with all the mods and frets.
“It gets better” - HBS
I'm ready for it!
The live version of this from red rocks is awesome. It’s called “The Evil River” I’d highly recommend.
Love the NH shoutout haha
ha, looked like NH!!
Let's go dad!
Thank you Zoppo!!!
lol 😄glad you made it through the early stuff. Even as a die hard gizz fan, I don't really listen to the early stuff. Looking forward to all the fun ahead!
Me too!
LETS GOOOO
By the way I think if you heard the third song of this album, the song is called God is in the Rhythm and it's MY FAV GIZZ SONG ❤❤❤❤
If it has a video, I'm on it...otherwise it will have to wait!
WE’RE BACK!!! 😂
hahahahah, it feels so good!
We don't have friends 😢😂
hahaha, I HIGHLY doubt that!
Personally, not on instagram, don’t really care about it
Good to know!!!
