Essentially Descartes said that if you can doubt something, then it's basically false and you would need to move a step back until you get to a point where nothing can be doubted - which would be an absolute truth. However, the issue is that you go all the way back to the point where you're just a brain... Your eyes can be tricked and therefore you cant trust what you see. Your touch can be random or unstimulated so you can't trust what you feel, same thing with all your other senses. Therefore, the only truth in the world (other than maths) is that you are able to think - hence the cogito. But, the tricky part here is that he mentions that even your thought can be puppeteered (brainwashed), but you can't really take it a step back sooooo everything has to start somewhere. I actually applaud Josh for sitting through the video, as a psychology student I noticed there were several times he was calming himself down from anxiety attacks
The sims theory is what I was thinking about as well because you know sometimes you cancel a sims task and in person you sometimes go into your room and you forgot what you wanted to do, it's basically the same
Ethan and Josh deserve so much praise for this. Both of them have come out recently about they battles with anxiety, and seeing them have to calm themselves down multiple times (Ethan by denying it and talking himself through it and Josh clearly changing his breathing patterns and adjusting his seating) while still firming it through the video is actually inspirational. All these comments tearing apart Ethan for his waffling just don’t know how it can be to have anxiety.
I think it’s kinda weird to assume that’s what they’re doing though. Like looking for signs in their movement? It’s most likely nothing to do with anxiety but you’re assuming. If they do feel anxious while making these videos with their friends, that’s up to their friends and them to figure a way around that, not for us to search and pick apart for every single time they feel anxious.

I understand your point, but when they have both been very open and honest about their anxiety up to this point, and seeing them break their normal charismatic characters multiple times is a tell tale sign that they are anxious. As someone who has to deal with anxiety and depression, I don’t know if I would be able to firm it like they did. I was having a hard time just watching the video. I still acknowledge and praise them for this video, and it’s been over a month since this video was released. I don’t want these two to feel like I’m looking for them to be anxious, that’s not the case. However, it was easy to see that they were anxious, and I applaud them and appreciate them for being an example to me on how to just push through those times of anxiety.

We will either take it to the point that we cant tell it from reality - or the world will be destroyed (nuclear war etc.) - and the chances that we are in the very small period in time that simulations are being first made is actually extremely unlikely?

The theory about the brain in the jar is the most inreresting to me since I've always wondered what exactly a consciousness actually is. It's also one of the reasons I found SOMA so damn interesting even though I'm an absolute baby when it comes to horror games.
