I got the ITS. This is strictly my opinion but while the R looks good, the ITS is gorgeous. Other reasons: 1) Better availability 2) Better value (in Canada, equivalent to $43.5k USD) 3) Black interior (hate red interiors) 4) Better exhaust sound 5) More creature comforts
I cross shopped both. Test drove the Type S. Bought the Type R… Full disclosure, I got my Type R at MSRP which sealed the deal. The Type S did not feel 7k better. The ITS seats were pretty bland, poorly styled. They didn’t hug you much at all. Perfect for plus sized Americans though. I also disliked the length. It’s easily a midsized vehicle. And the stuck on rear fender flares are quite poorly done up close. I’m surprised it’s not mentioned more frequently by reviewers. The plastic isn’t perfectly color matched (never is) and on the white ITS (my preferred color) it looks off. Driving the ITS was fun but that gauge cluster was disappointing. No fun shift lights or aggressive modes. It looks more Civic like than the Civic. I did appreciate the ITS exhaust note but it wasn’t enough to sell me on the car. Wish the Type R had heated seats but I garage mine in the winter anyways. In the end, at MSRP the Type R is a better buy. The Type S lacks some basic “luxury” features (heated steering wheel / ventilated seats) that a car in that bracket should have. If I’m being honest, I prefer the front fascia of the ITS, the fun rear wing of the CTR, the exhaust note of the ITS, the gauge cluster and seats of the CTR, the additional options of the ITS (heated seats / HUD), and the lower price of the CTR. Both great cars.
Well thought out breakdown. I've ordered the ITS because there is basically no chance of getting a type R at MSRP here in canada. If I got a chance at it though I'd make the same decision as you did.
The ITS has a shift indicator that flashes the rev limiter gauge. There are many other things that typically get overlooked that makes the ITS more expensive. For example: -Rain Sensing wipers -Longer Warranty -Wider Powerband (Check Savagegeese review includes dyno of both cars) -Cooler Exhaust Note -Leatherette Interior -HUD -Sunglass holder -Door Sill Plates -Wheels with TPMS -Radar Sensors in the bumpers -Sound Deadening -Aggressive body kit -Premium Sound System -Powered Driver Seat with plenty of adjustments -Heated Front Seats -Pearl Color Palette in the exterior Among other things.

For example…my daily, a CX-30 turbo cost 40k and has: Rain sensing wipers Adaptive headlights HUD Leather interior Heated seats Heated steering wheel (not an add on) Power seats Sunroof A sunglasses holder (weird option for you to include so I put it on my list too) Proximity sensors in the bumper A premium sound system Auto lift gate (ITS is manual) Rear HVAC (also missing in the ITS) AWD (also missing in the ITS) Sound deadening So here’s my problem with the ITS. At 53k and branded a “luxury” car, it actually has fewer luxury items than my non-luxury Mazda that I paid 13k less for. Yes, I know, apples to oranges. But the Acura folks love pointing out these features as though they’re not common features in just about every car…And yes, the Type R is also missing those items but it was 7k cheaper for the same platform. And I’m not excusing the CTR for its lack of heated seats. My Miata has heated seats…the CTR absolutely should. But the CTR seats are worlds better than the ITS seats. So the ITS is oddly positioned. Not great on luxury, not any more potent in performance, but a pretty hefty up charge. Keep in mind I wanted an ITS. It wasn’t until I sat in both cars did I find I preferred the CTR for all the reasons I noted in my original posts… Side note…the CTR’s integrated fender and rear quarter panels are beautiful. I’m not sure I would consider the ITS “aggressive body kit” a plus. Having actual, molded body panels that flare is more upscale to me. But that’s my opinion.
@@mrnrfan182 you were lucky to find a CTR at MSRP. But when I was in need for a car I couldn’t find a CTR in the east coast at the right cost. All of them were over 50k some over 60s. I didn’t made sense paying more for the Honda when the Acura was literally the same and came with additional stuff. My point is that people usually say that the ITS is like throwing away 7k but that isn’t true, you gain many things that the CTR doesn’t have. Another thing that you are missing is that the creators of the ITS wanted to offer an upscaled CTR without ruining the performance. That was pointed out multiple times by them. Many of those missing features people cry about all the time will affect the agility by adding weight, reducing chassis stiffness and raising the center of gravity like a moonroof.
Both are absolutely gorgeous! I chose the Type R for its exclusivity, it is more raw and track focused, and it fits my needs more than a powerful daily driver.
@@Marbindunderstood. Let me clarify. In North America, the Type R is more highly sought after and despite being a worldwide car, is more bespoke. Formed wide body panels, assembled in Japan (engine in Ohio).

@@Marbind fair enough. Apples to apples, I agree. Both are excellent cars and come down to preference. If paying a markup, the DE5 makes more sense. Also the DE5 more subdued looks are appealing for different reasons. I was able to grab a ‘24 FL5 at MSRP, but cross shopped the DE5 since dealers aren’t marking up the DE5
@@toddallison4390 the only reason I have the DE5 is because back in august the integra was easier to find for less money than the civic. Took me just two calls to find the integra at msrp.
Hi Jared, thanks for another great review of Honda products. Your review of the 2020 Civic Si was one of the main reviews that stuck in my head when I was deciding on that car. Anyway, thanks for this review. Based on what you're saying, and other reviews, I would prefer the TYpe S over the Type R. I think I'm kind of older than the Type R target demographic, and I prefer the slightly softer approach that Acura takes to this platform.

With that price is a no brainer that the CTR is the best. Not many people has that chance. The only thing that makes the CTR harsh is the suspension and time proved that the ITS suspension module is better tuned because FL5 owners are posting better times with it. Making fun of the ITS comfortable ride but forgot about the common claim that CTR seats are more comfortable. Based on your logic the CTR has female oriented seats 🤣.

Cars are as big as a TLX, Accord or Camry now. Who asked for that? Does everyone want such big sports cars? My town has small narrow streets!!!!! The Honda looks soooo much better to me I would just change the exhaust. But I will wait to drive the hybrid version when it comes and save $15,000 and have a small car.

As far as looks. The Honda Civic Type R is more aggressive looking. The Intergra Type S has five more horsepower. If I ever hit the powerball or the lottery, I will get both of them.
I purchased the Type-R the seats, shift lights, and digital dash that has rev line when you put it in +R is what sold it for me.😊

Is sold only in North America. The civic is a world wide product.
Both perform the same way at the track.
