Written as a farewell to her business partner and mentor Porter Wagoner, expressing Parton's decision to pursue a solo career. Dolly is a country artist.

Fun fact is that country music superstar Dolly Parton actually wrote this song and she has recorded it and it’s one of her signature songs. She did not know that Whitney Houston had recorded this song for the movie the bodyguard until she was in her car going home and heard it on the radio andhad to pull over because she was overcome with so much emotion that she was afraid she was going to wreck her car. She said this is the most overwhelming feeling she has ever had when someone has recorded her music. RIP Whitney. Gone too song and too tragic.
This is the soundtrack to the movie "The Bodyguard". I've watched this wonderful touching film with great actors several times. Besides it ends quite in Russian style.
You know some things surpass music and this is one of them. Your listening to her voice do these spectacular things but whilst listening you get chills and experience something that is out of this world. Its inexplicable, its so powerful, i feel like crying. Whatever possessed her to sing like this i want it. Extraordinary talent
A lot of people were offended & didn't like her twist on such a great Dolly Parton song. But Whitney's version sure got loads of love & support, and eventually became super popular, mostly by the monie "Bodyguard" with Kevin Costner. Fabulous movie!! Great reaction! I enjoy watching you fall into new music. Especially Home Free. 😉🥰

I hope you will take the opportunity to listen to the original by the one and only Miss Dolly Parton. Both versions are remarkable. Different styles but both equally remarkable. Dolly wrote and recorded this song in 1973/74. She was trying to get out of a contract with Mr. Porter Wagoner to pursue a solo career, he refused so she went home and wrote this song that night, came back to studio the next day, sang it for Mr. Wagoner who agreed to let her go if she would give him and his studio the song. The rest is history. Dolly was thrilled Miss Huston's version did so well.

Dolly sound good and her ability to convey emotions bc she wrote this song..Whitney sounds good too and she made this song as the most Legendary song of 90's(if not the best of all time)Still the best selling female song of all time
This song was from the film 'The Bodyguard' in which she starred with Kevin Costner. However, the song was written by Dolly Parton but was not a hit for her.
This song was most certainly a hit for Dolly at three different times. This rendition by Whitney was beautiful and perfect for the movie. However, most people who first heard Dolly sing her song prefer her more intimate version.
There is nobody with a voice like Whitney Houston. Her vocals, tone and utter perfection is unmatched and amazingly mind-blowing how she can control her vocals and runs so effortlessly. This is what ICONIC sounds and looks like when you've been doing this since childhood, when you've put in the work over years and years of sacrifices, focus and commitment to perfecting your vocals and talent. RIP Whitney, I know GOD is so very happy to have you singing for him now and to listen to an angel's voice. You will forever be ICONIC and EPIC.

Whitney’s death affected me probably more than any other celebrity’s death in my entire lifetime. I was truly heartbroken. Princess Diana’s death would be a very close second.
You should hear her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, the American national anthem. Whitney " The Voice" Houston was a beast before the term became a thing. Rest in power queen. Still sorely missed.

Right there with you, man. I could listen to this 100 times and it would still blow me away. The control she had with her voice and the effortlessness with which she sang is extraordinary. For me, nobody tops this performance. This is one of those songs that, no matter who you think you are as a singer, you don't even attempt. There are very few songs like that, where once the right person sings it, it's over. You're relegating yourself to karaoke at a bar where everyone's hammered. She's the greatest female singer I've ever heard. Nobody can sing with such passion, skill, emotion and precision while looking like they're not destroying their vocal cords.
