52k and counting on the goal of 15k. Just shows how much respect Keith has in the youtube community. A truly class act. So glad Turn wright machine works Is going to continue to serve his community for years to come. Keith has shown respect for this tough process that the family is dealing with. Just more examples of a man of class. It is inspiring to witness a community come together to help one of their own.

I believe it is important to note that this is no plea for easy money like a lot of "people" use go fund me for. Keith has been giving and giving with nothing asked in return to the youtube machinist community for a long time now. For example, organizing all those years of the toolbox giveaways, etc. Its time we return the favor. Thank you Keith for what you have given to this community and will continue to. Its now time for us to return the favor.

Keith, you and I are about the same age and same interest in life. 15 years ago I decided to make a life change and moved from california to montana, a 1 thousand mile move. Lathes, mills and everything associated with a machine and welding shop.16 trips with a 31 ft. Lowbed trailer. My business was a continuance of a family business started in. 1885. I took it over in 1973 at 20 years of age, kept the family business name of G@H machine and welding. We moved into a modern 5000 sq ft building and set up shop. We are a farm based repair shop and this area was in need of a shop that could handle both farm and industrial work, a huge gamble but it is paying off big time. Unfortunately cancer, shoulder surgery and other stumbling blocks on health issues have taken a toll but like you perseverance prevails. Luckily, my son has taken over and with the skills he learned from me and watching you for years he is a success . At 27 years old he has a long run ahead of him. We wish you the best in your new life and just wanted to let you know we feel the pain of moving and starting over but always know that your skills have helped a young man keep up our tradition. Your friends, tim and derek in montana.

I can tell from your body language and the tone in your voice that you are in mourning. I know the feeling all too well, when my wife passed away ten years ago it tore me to the core. I cried openly and frequently to the point that I had to carry a roll of paper towels with me. One thing that helped me the most was something my sister said.
“When a ship sails away, you see it get smaller and smaller until it finally disappears over the horizon; its gone. However, at the other end people see it in the distance and it gets bigger and bigger until it finally arrives at its destination.”
You are blessed with a good attitude and looking forward, this too shall pass. You have a loyal following, a good reputation, friends, family, and many fans. You may not feel it now, but you will do fine in the long term. Plus, you will have a new shop that is clean, bright, neat, and inspiring. Look to the future, the past is over and done with.

One of the things that Kieth does with his "What's in Your Box" toolbox giveaways is to give people an opportunity to express their empathy and generosity. I think that, aside from a small number of anti-social types, people are naturally empathetic (able to see things from another's perspective) and generous, and Keith's work confirms that. So not only does he organize material support for others in the form of needed tools, but also spiritual support by reaffirming their faith in humanity. These are very valuable things for society, so I think Keith has earned every penny of support he gets and am very happy to see his goal met.

It's hard enough to go through a divorce, especially after 25 years, but to be able to keep your business is a true blessing. My divorce was a nightmare, false accusations and near loss of my career, but God blessed me and looked after me and everything worked out. I know it will for you too and with 124k subscribers behind you you will not only survive but thrive.
Your new location may end up being better than the old one but it won't feel like home for a while. Once suggestion, something you've probably already thought about; I saw a lot of wood in that building. As a career firefighter my first thought was fire protection, particularly in the area you are planning for your welding area. You might want to consider the additional effort and expense of drywall over any exposed wood, even if it's only hung and taped, to protect your investment.

Hi Keith, I don't usually leave comments on RUclips channels, but I have enjoyed your videos for years and right now wanted to let you know just how valued you are. I first used a metal lathe when I was 10 and my dad bought a new lathe. I am now 75 and that lathe is in my workshop and still works like new. Being retired, I don't have a lot of spare, but I will fund you with what I can scrape together. Thank you for what you do and please keep doing it ... although there are many machining channels, you are a unique man with unique methods and skills .. no one else does it quite like you. :)

To bad I am on the wrong coast. I would happily donate time and manpower if I was, which can be even more valuable at times. I know the end/goal might not be visible right now, while your in the thick of it. But Your a good person, great talents. You will succeed and make it over this speed bump in your life.

I can offer a hand next weekend. Im in Barnstable. And have moved my shop 6 years ago. So i have experience in moving a machine shop. Did the same type of move, prepped and staged all the machines for a 1 day iron move. I had to rent a 60 ton crane to pick machines up over a house due to strange logistics. Some lessons I learned: a f250 can tow a 6wheel drive crane out of a mud pit. You cant have too many 5 gallon buckets and bins for packing tooling and little stuff. Label boxes. Take the opportunity to get more organized with the space gained. Bars are better than hillman rollers. Get a pallet jack or a fork lift, now that you have flat floors they will be awesome. Good luck, 👍👍

When i went thru a divorce, and had l to move a cnc shop in the middle of a Canadian winter, it’s wasn’t ideal. It’s also quite costly as you know. At least you have good friends and good weather there KF. I had to get a shitter of a shop too when I moved. It took 6 months to setup lights, machines, air, power etc.
I know exactly how you feel. Once you get making chips, and get settled in, you will enjoy the change.

Pardon my ignorance, but can you, or someone, explain to me why you and Keith had to sell one shop just to open another just a few miles away in Keith's situation? Thanks.

If the business is on a property that needs to be sold, owing to a divorce settlement, then you either have to buy the person out, or move.

Real estate prices have more than tripled since he bought the shop. He would have to get a bigger mortgage to buy half now than he did for the whole thing 25 years ago. It's better to own sometimes, but his business has enough cash flow to make rent easy. Plus, the development he's moving into is hurting for tenants, so he is probably getting a good deal. (I'm a local)

I know that there are lots of anxiety and bad feelings involved when you have to give up your shop unplanned (been there). But for me the move became a real push forward. Suddenly I could plan my new workshop from the beginning and make improvents that had been impossible before.
I am glad to see that you found a place with life instead of a modern dead block of concrete. This will be great.

Just donated even though you'd more than surpassed your goal. You've given me much more education over the years, on this channel,... than I could ever repay. Use the extra money to do the shop up right....take on an apprentice from the local trade school....teach him/her and expand your business my brother. good luck.
