    Very cool, thanks for the information! Our home was covered professionally but this will be *very* useful when I build a root cellar later on. Radon is nuts here--even with the passive system our basement is coming in with 6s and 7s. We had to get a fan as well.

    I've been working on my AREs and I've been learning about how the gravel, vapor retarder, and pipe work together to mitigate radon in new construction.. I only saw it in section so far so this is wonderful to help me picture the overall system. I know this video was posted a few years ago but could you tell me a bit or point me to a source about the difference between active and passive systems? Thank you so much!

    Great video. Even my wife liked it. Based on this video our house is garbage.

    This will only work If there are two separate vents through the roof, one on each end of the buried PVC pipe. Having only one roof vent would create a vapor lock.

    Question: what are the different cfm fans for this type of installation. How do you choose the correct fan?

    You can use standard perforated black drainage pipe can't you? for ONLY under the slab

    I am in the process of getting a new home built . I was told it will have a radon system . Does that mean they know there is radon or my lot or isit just precautuionary ?

    I do wonder. If the house would have been built not on the gravel (on ground) but... say.. on pols. Meaning, about 1 meter above ground, and sits on pols, and the entire surface underneeth the house (meaning, that 1 meter) would have been open (no walls or anything). Would the radeon still could go into the house?.

      no need for radon mitigitation if the house in on stilts or poles, radon would not be trapped or absorbed into the house, it can escape in the gap.

    Since you implemented an acoustically sealed and coupled barrier, wouldn't that keep the radon gas out thus eliminating the need for a vent and under slab pipe?

    • @alec4672
      @alec4672 6 лет назад

      No depends on the perms of the poly

      No, you need the suction and piping to direct it where you want, out. Otherwise, it will eventually find its way into structure. Like water, along path of least resistance.

    What are all the black lines on the wall for?

    • @astiatkinson4375
      @astiatkinson4375 8 лет назад +1

      The walls are formed with ICF's and the black vertical marks are plastic strips embedded in the ICF's to screw into when attaching sheet rock.

    no foam board under the vapor barrier!?

    • @williamlopez5462

      Foam should go on top a barrier and under concrete

    I'm not saying that you didn't do a good job, I'm just saying it is complete overkill. I've been in the business for 21 years and you would have trouble making money if you did this with every job. Great craftsmanship though.
