    Great video again! I really appreciate you using the Vanquish as a standard comparison versus other high end reels (especially because I have two Vanquishes). Really glad you made this video as I was contemplating getting the next Exist. However, I've come to realize that I really value low inertia over most other attributes for my stop and go style of fishing. Comparing the inertia on my Cardiff Ci4+ to my Vanquish is night and day. The difference in effort it takes the stop the handle is actually more pronounced than the difference in start up inertia.

    I like these alot I have both the 2500 and 4000 for bass fishing. My favorite reel for bass use sure even after trying all Stella's exists etc. I found it feels very refined. But also how the shapes is designed. It balances with many rods comfortably. Where as I found sometimes the shimano excense and vanford the balance felt different and a bit off.
    The prices vs almost perfect performance is a good buy imo
    Nice review. I agree with you points.

    Great looking reel and features! Thanks for a look at another reel and explaining little things. Find myself finding a quality reel to balance on certain rods. Some are hard to match up appearances or paint jobs. Have a Daiwa ballistic fw on Daiwa presso. Smooth and great drag but definitely need to find some knob shims and a bearing for handle. Wish Daiwa schematics showed individual handle components.
    Thanks for your effort and for subscriber support!

    Victor, clearly you have put a lot of thought into this review and I find that your take on the naming of the reel is pretty persuasive and plausible. Also, your comparison with Vanquish was helpful too (Vanquish is better for trout magnet; Airity functions well for spoons and crankbaits). My area trout fishing friends in Japan really hate the Magseal on the Daiwa reels and, those who can afford it, send them off to specialists to "tune" the reels, which includes replacing the grease with oil and removing the Magseal.

    • @ifishcatfish

      I enjoy servicing my shimano reels but i hate opening daiwa magseal reels. Always issues on the close, even though if u forget about the magseal and the funny sideplate the daiwa reels are mechanically simpler.

    I really enjoyed this review Victor, you’re replacing Tackle Advisors as my go to RUclipsr for reel reviews.
    A little while ago I commented on a video of yours saying that to me the 19 Certate feels more premium than the 20 Luvias and you couldn’t understand why that would be as they basically share the same internals.
    I think now you’ve reviewed the Airity you understand the difference I was referring to in the feel between the composite body and the metal body. Metal body reels just feel nicer and in my opinion and the Certate LT feels as nice Airity/Exist LT, just a little more weight which isn’t always a bad thing for certain applications.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  2 года назад

      Did i ever say i think luvias and certate feel the same? I dont remember holding that opinion. I dont know better or worse, but i know aluminum reel will feel different.

    • @bestthingsinceslicedrice
      @bestthingsinceslicedrice 2 года назад +2

      I had a fishing incident where my Daiwa Certate LT reel got dragged in the ocean by a big fish, but luckily I was able to fish it out.
      So when I got home I had to do a complete strip down removing everything, then applied a different brand of grease.
      And when I gave the reel a spin, I noticed it got noisy and its no longer as smooth as how it used to be.
      So I tried different grease to no avail and only the SLP grease from Japan was the one that was able to bring back the buttery smoothness.
      So from my experience, if you want to have lower inertia. You have to give up the resistance from the factory grease or leave it there so its smooth as silk

    Nice vid. I have three FC Airity’s and a 2500 Exist to compare. I feel like the Airity is what the Exist should had been - I agree they are like jewels. FC Airity models have their magseal gear drive and line roller removed just like FC Exists. While the non-FC models keep magseals in those areas. I agree that clutch will be removed in the redesigned Exist. The Airity not having one is so refreshing. No nonsense. We may be due for a model change in Exist in the next year or two so it does make sense Daiwa using the Exist frame in the Airity. Although Daiwa has been notoriously using reel parts throughout their line up and differentiating with an extra bearing or so. The 20 Luvias frame is on like 6 other Daiwa reels now.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  2 года назад

      Maybe u mean mq design, not frame. Only exist and airity have same frame. The other frames are some kind of plastic, or aliminum, but never same material as exist. Frame is not exactly same either.

    • @dongalow
      @dongalow 2 года назад +2

      @@ifishcatfish yes the 18 Exist and 21 Airity use the same MQ frame and use the same magnesium material - total of two for this chassis family. Just different paint scheme of course.
      Meanwhile the 20 Luvias was set to be another legacy frame - base Zaion chassis that is now being shared on the EU Airity, New Presso, Emeraldas Air, and AU Revelry. all essentially the same reel with difference in bearing count, Magsealing, rotor material, etc.

    I just got the Airity in the 4000 Size and it's awesome. Can understand that ever slight resistance feel of the grease or whatever they used for lubrication, they should definitely have used something with less viscosity. Haven't ever felt the Vanquish so I'm wondering if I should get that one too or just wait until next year if they release a new Exist or Stella FJ.

      If you look back at the 2012 & 2015 Exist they shared the same frame design, I’d predict that Daiwa will stretch out the R&D on this current frame design for the next one.

    Hey, great vid as always, but a quick question. Would you mind explaining what Daiwa's quick drag system is? I cannot find a good explanation online and the only luvias airity 2500 models I can find in stock are the "quick-drag" models. Does it just mean that the drag tightens in fewer clicks? Or does it mean the reel will always be in free spool when I cast and then the drag engages after a bite?

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  2 года назад +1

      the drag tightens with very few clicks. People use it for free lining. It creates a similar effect to a baitrunner reel, but without the complexity of baitrunning mechanism

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  2 года назад +1

      no, it does not. Daiwa sells so many drag greases, and so does shimano. I would not use anything in the first 2 years though. Then u can buy something. I have used very cheap grease there and can hardly tell the difference. But if u have several nice reels, just go and buy some drag grease and service all ur reels. It has to be felt grease though, not carbon grease

    Great, to the point video as always
    I' ve got a big dillema.
    I am using a 2500 size Vanford for trout, using mostly spinners in small creeks and streams. I can't decide between the Vanquish or Luvias Airity, both 2000s sizes. Would the Airity be a stronger, more rigid reel compared to Vanquish? Inertia and cranking power also important for spinners. I can't get my hands on any of them to decide.

    Hi Victor great video. What else could a guy buy that's the best of for under a $1000. A road racing bicycle in 1975 maybe. Actually the engineer's at Daiwa are doing a pretty good job. I wonder what happened to old man Daiwa he named his top reels in the early 70's SS gold silver and bronze now I need a Daiwa speak dictionary. Now it looks like if I want the best French spinning reel you have to get a Daiwa. I like the fact that they're paying homage to many of the old greats Luxor Crack styling cues with a bit of Swedish ABU smoothness throwin in with a bit of Samurai sword to make it there own. A far cry from the days when they cloned the Mitchell 300 in the late 60's. Even Hardy styling cues from the 30's is seen in the new models. But the level of refinement has reached a level not dreamed of back then. Still a world beater Daiwa's continue to strive to the founders Mark of Excellence doctorine.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  2 года назад

      u can google for more accuracy. It is the tendency of bodies to keep their current state and resist change. So if the rotor is not moving and you try to move it, it will resist and u have to put some force to get it to move. Then when u start moving it and want to stop it, intertia will keep it moving, so if u want to stop it again you need to put force to stop it. But expensive reels have little inertia and start and stop very easy

    I bought the Luvias Airity 2500 LT model (not the FC type). For my suprise I noticed that the size and the spool diameter is smaller compared to the regular 2500 Shimano models like Vanford and latest Stradic, what made me very happy because it's a very versatile size. Perfect for trout, perch and chub fishing. The reel is very sturdy, very fancy looking, and weights only 170 grams. It's also smooth as butter, can't feel the gears working inside, when handle is turned at regular speed. On the other hand, because of the rigidity of the frame or the hard metal parts used inside, when the handle is turned only a bit faster, it feels as metal rubbing to metal and it's a bit noisy. Maybe they applied less grease to this particular unit? I don't know if that's normal as I've never tried another Luvias Airity before. I was wondering if you or others have experienced this.

    Hello mr Victor, i am from Indonesia
    I want to ask you
    is the oscillating gear on 2021 luvias airity still plastic??
    and is that strong enough to caught 7kg fish??
    I go fishing 2 times a week, I fish in the fishing pond with fish weighing over 5kg
    Please answer my question
    Thank you before

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  2 года назад +3

      the plastic gear doesn't rotate the rotor. It only moves the spool up and down. The pressure on the plastic gear is roughly the same whether u fight a fish or not. It is the pinion gear that rotates the rotor and takes all the force, thats why the pinion gear is the strongest gear in the reel, stronger than the main gear.

    Hi. First of all I would like to say that you are doing a great job! I am a Shimano lover and I own reels only from this company. Recently I am into using the lightest possible tackle. I am impressed by Vanquish 2019 4000 MHG which I use for asp fishing (I am from Poland), however I am looking for lightweight 4000 size reel with normal gear ratio (the problem is that Vanquish 4000 has only HG or XG). In the portfolio of Shimano I found only Vanford which has normal gear ratio and light weigh, nevertheless I think it not as smooth as Vanquish. With a heavy heart I checked the portfolio of Daiwa and found this Luvias Airity 4000 which weight is only 200g and gear ratio 5.3. Getting to the point: how to compare the real size of these two reel? I've heard that Daiwa 4000 is visually bigger than Shimano 4000. So maybe I should take Luvias 3000 to have a reel the same as Vanquish 4000? The thing is that I don't have any shop in the neighbourhood to compare it, I am forced to order it online. I hope that you can asnwer/help me. Thank you in advance. Take care

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  2 года назад

      Daiwa and Shimano will be almost the same size. Daiwa used to be bigger 10 years ago. This is very old rumor that found you. Daiwa abandoned those ABS spools that I actually liked. I still have many of them. Anyway, don't worry, they will be same size and Airity is super smooth reel. Better gears even than Vanquish. By the way the gears in the Vanquish and Vanford are identical. It is the frame and some bearings that are different and make the two reels feel different

      @@bestthingsinceslicedrice That is the ultimate salt water fishing question..... To use magnesium or not to use Magnesium. I always have problems with monocoque design and and sealed drag and difficulty opening. The Shimano, even the Exsence/Stella with or without magnesium, can easily be opened cleaned and re-greased. I would be more comfortable with a Shimano, a reel that I can open, than Daiwa, a reel I can't. I have no intention of dropping a $100 to send the Daiwa to be cleaned. Ask Victor how many good experiences he had with the tool he bought to open the reels and how they change the shape of the tool. If you buy Shimano, you don't have to worry about the Magnesium if you rinse and clean often enough. How much is enough? Now that is the real question.

    You are comparing a luvias airity with a high gear ratio with a 2500s vanquish Low gear ratio of course the vanquish feels better. It’s a fact high gear ratio reel doesnt feel as smooth as low gear ratio . Try a Luvias airity lt3000 low gear ratio it will blow any vanquish ( i have vanquish c3000 and Even exsence 21 c3000m ) and the Luvias airity is much smoother in low gear ratio . I have a 2500xh Quick drag so much resistance on the high gear ratio . Thanks mate .

      I have had 3 airities, you can watch those videos too. All airity reels up to 2023 have too much resistance due to magseal and sealed bearings. This is a Fact confirmed by Daiwa, which they addressed in the release of the new 2024 Airity. They said the new Airity will not have a lot of resistance like the old. Thanks for watching
