I knew the song writer Robert John Mackay well when I was a child in Embo in the 40s and 50s. He owned the trading store on Front Street which was right next door to my maternal grandmother Ann Cumming's home at 9 Front Street. RJ, as we all knew him, was married but had no children. His mother, Katey Curley was related to me on my mother's side of the family. He always fancied himself as an author and song writer. I remember that he once wrote a song praising the bravery of the Norwegian soldiers that were stationed near Embo in WW2. And that was even before they saw any action in WW2. Of yes, how I miss those good old days and Embo itself.
