I love listening to the radio traffic. If the people who were my colleagues for 19 years in a call center were even half this collegiate, those 19 years would have gone by a lot quicker 🤭
Observations from retired Ocean-Going 2nd mate: Bow thruster but no stern thruster is probably why they used tugs. Note most Lakers have both bow and stern thrusters. Lifeboat on stern verses Lakers with just rafts but no lifeboats. We never had all the work lights on because it messed up our night vision. I see it is common practice on the Lakes to light up all the work lights and use spotlights. I assume Collision Avoidance Radar systems have advanced so much that night vision in close quarters is not an issue. I'm sure once they clear the harbor, all but navigation light goes out. (Except deck house lights)
Really enjoyed watching!!
Imagine living in Duluth and listening to those wonderful salutes at all hours of the day and night. All is well 😄
We visited Duluth for a few days and didn't notice the salutes.

Me too !!! As much as I love watching the ships, the guys talking are so great to listen to !!!!
That’s a nice take of the departure. I have not yet seen the use of a tugboat in Duluth harbor. Very interesting. Thank you.
Whee we go around in circles😂. Thank you, captain, for the wonderful salute.
A splendid departure 🎉🎉🎉
Ahhhh so the purpose of the tug boat is to turn the ship? I wondered what they actually did. Donna Northern Michigan
Thank you! I haven't been able to figure that out either, until your comment 😂
