1980s university funding model was a bonding component model, if student defaulted, he/she was to be taken to court for recovery HELB loan ACT of 1995 and in case of default, HELB blacklisted you against employment anywhere in Kenya, worldwide on labor relationship; freezing of all bank accounts worldwide; auctioning of personal property but restrictions to student only. Now new Universities funding model is bringing in family to into risk of default... meaning HELB to auction family and personal property, family and personal Bank accounts... extending HELB hand into family if student is financially able
Janet is very informed. The main problem is that the cost of the courses are very exaggerated. For in private universities computer science goes for less than 200k while in public universities it is being charged over 300k
Since 1971, the government has used student loans to extend and redistribute university education opportunities. Kenya cautiously expanded university education initially, introducing a university loan scheme in 1974. This then changed to HELB in 1995.
You don't get it. Parents pay through their nose and assistance from relatives to ensure the child gets a space at the university. It is expected at that point things will get easier as the student can access student loan at a reasonable rate. This will
the govt should have come out clearly that they want to discourage poor people from accessing universities, wanataka poor people waende tvet , makes sense ju ata masomo haisaidii bt the class war that will follow...wacha tu
No student requested for boom. Boom was money government gave to students to buy education supply material...it was not loan... please know that no Bank accounts were involved. What kind of loan without loan request form and no approval process... boom was given at random without the awareness of the students.
You are a mad person..why are after parents who have been sacrificing through loans ...yet in our days no one followed parents .it is as if parents should be punished fir making sacrifices at primary level yet this comes as a result of poor education availed in primary level especially in public schools
Kindly citizens people, why are you so unfair like that.please try to be realistic.l went to high school back in 1990s when the fees for the whole year was 6000k.that was a provincial school by then, equivalent to extra county of today.can l now say because l paid that amount during that time it should as well be applied this time.come on bwana.we know where Kenya's economy is now.kindly don't incite Kenyans against their government by spreading propaganda and innuendo
You forget then the whole government budget was 300billion now its 3trillion so the difference is the same if you tabulate the inflation so please don't be a Ruto sycophant.

what does the government use in order to determine the income/band level to place learners
Old funding model worked just fine.
Helb was established in 1995 and wasn't there in 1980s. And that coat he said he paid of 55k is quite a lie.

Ruto is a perennial liar

Don't have twins, triplets or quadruplets hii kenya haina huruma
Have 2 categories i.e band 1 and 5 only. There is no difference between earning 70k and 40k

Yes if you sacrifice and take your child to private school its a problem. Yet public schools are a sham
