Took train from Rome Termini to Florence and back in 2018! Took fast train! Had no problems whatsoever! Even had breakfast at the Italian McDonald's! Just have to be aware of your surroundings at any major hub! Just Travel light so you have control of your baggage at all times!

I visited Rome back in 2018, used Termini Station to go to Naples and back. Never felt unsecured there. I went in the morning and came back at night. With extra 10 days roaming thru Rome, not a single time I felt unsafe anywhere around. I do speak Italian tho. But in terms of security that is a non factor. I guess it is possible that in 6 years period something changed, but this year I visited 5 Italian cities in 5 days [Milano, Verona, Venice, Firence and Bologna] even had to walk 5km in the middle of the night in Venice, and I felt perfectly safe.

I am happy that you felt safe and I hope you will never have a bad experience. The big problem in Rome is about pickpockets. Especially at the station

@ Thanx. I guess all major cities with lots of tourist have that problem. For example Barcelona is massac*e 😅

That is my experience too. Never unsafe. Rather much more safe than Sweden. I love Italy and that might taint my view a bit...

As a solo female of 78 from Australia I have passed through Termini several times. Be aware of your security but I never had any trouble. There is a very useful information booth near the stairs. I would not be there alone at night. It's fine in daytime. Airport bus leaves nearby.

Exaggerated by saying “ full of drug dealers & homeless people”. Way safer than say US big cities.

I have been living here for more than 8 years and I did not compare it to US cities. I say what I see every day. drug dealers do not walk with a banner saying they are drug dealers and every day I see people sleeping next to the station. Unfortunately it is true.

The Metro platforms at Termini and other busy metro stations are places that pickpockets and thieves hang out.
      Tips:
      Avoid crowded spaces on platforms.
Do not try to crowd into cars. Pickpockets will follow you and reach into open purses or bags then when the doors close you are on the train and they are running away.
Move to less crowded spaces near the ends of platforms. If car looks really crowded wait for the next train.
Keep purses and bags zipped and in front of you.
Keep hand in pocket with valuables.
The Leonardo Express Train runs from Termini to DaVinci Airport about every 15-30 minutes. It’s non-stop and the trip takes about 30 minutes for about 6 euros more per ticket than the bus.
