Alan Watts was an incredible philosopher and speaker who had a unique way of exploring Eastern philosophy and spirituality. His captivating lectures and books have inspired countless people around the world.
Alan Watts was born in England in 1915 and developed a deep interest in Eastern philosophy from a young age. He studied Buddhism, Taoism, and Hinduism, and became a renowned interpreter of these philosophies for Western audiences. His ability to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western thought made him a popular figure in the counterculture movement of the 1960s.
One of the central themes in Watts' teachings was the concept of "the self." He explored the idea that our sense of self is an illusion, and that we are all interconnected with the universe. He encouraged people to embrace the present moment and find joy in the simple act of being alive.
Watts had a way of delivering profound insights with a sense of humor and playfulness. He believed that life should be approached with a sense of wonder and curiosity, and that we should not take ourselves too seriously. His lectures often included anecdotes, stories, and metaphors that helped illustrate his points in an engaging and relatable way.
In addition to his lectures, Watts wrote numerous books on topics such as Zen Buddhism, Taoism, and the nature of consciousness. Some of his most well-known works include "The Wisdom of Insecurity," "The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are," and "The Way of Zen."
Alan Watts passed away in 1973, but his teachings continue to resonate with people today. His ability to distill complex philosophical concepts into accessible and relatable ideas has made him a beloved figure in the world of spirituality and philosophy.

I believe our purpose is doing what it takes to support the ones we love, ie usually our family. Many people do not find happiness in this as they do not like what they have to do to support their families, ie they hate their jobs. I come to this conclusion because for the first 50 or so years of my life, I identified as a programmer, my career, which I absolutely loved and a family man. Even though I had some medical issues and had made some mistakes in life, I hustled at work, but I was happy, happy, happy. Still a programmer, but now I work full time from home, put in maybe 2-4 hours a day. My medical condition has rectified itself. I should be happy, happy, happy, but I am not. Still making the same money, all this new found free time, but I am bored. My chosen language is aged and learning anything new is difficult. That for me was the meaning of life, being able to do something you love to support your family well.

The Universe is infinite, no beginning, no end, no Big Bang, no centre, no time, unknowable, we are an essential part of IT

Like a spiral in a circle a wheel within a wheel never ending or beginning on an Ever spinning reel! The big bang? What did it Bang into more like the big happening for everything came into existence all at once and it's been expanding ever since then? Like sound comes out of Silence existence comes out of non-existence, endlessly cycling back and forth without beginning or end because the beginning of anything is the end of a previously existed and the end of anything is the beginning of something new and creation and destruction again two sides of the same coin because whenever you destroy something you create something new and whenever you create something you destroy what previously existed! Extreme poles of the same process! Non-duality!

I know my comments are dumb, but its actually the right attitude, this is the comments section game, the game being; who can come up with the best comment, and according to alan watts you guys hella lost, because your taking it too seriously, trying to sound all smart and scholary. The right approach is to be zen in every aspect of life and to never lose the feeling of fun, hes not trying to say something philosophical, hes explaining something very simple and pure that is beyond philosophy and religion.

The most zen thing you can do is to make light of serious things, and the dumbest thing you can do is to turn things that are fun into something serious. Thats why jokers and comedians are the guardians of truth, because when you say something true with a detached irony, like you mean it but not really, thats usually pretty funny. But if you say something true with frankness and complete seriousness then your just preaching. Alan watts has the ability to say truths without sounding preachy, its almost like hes saying jokes
