We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon White Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Bug types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

I mean this technically counts as a 'spooky month' run, right?
...but the scariest thing of all is not following on Twitter yet 😱 twitter.com/SilphSpectre
Bring back the true power series
How about an ultra sun and moon run. They're the most challenging for nuzlockes so I think you'll like it. Excellent job as usual silph
Well according to my calculations, your right because people fear insects but I don't I touched a lanternfly yesterday and brought it home and even kissed it but not In a sus way.
I just realised this but: No Bug/Flying Types in Unova. That´s insane.
Oh, also, i support an UltraSun Electric Nuzlocke.
Will we ever get true power tournament back i miss it
Bug type as a whole got a nice little buff in gen5 imo, was nice to see them finally get some love
True. Before that they only had, what, Scizor, Yanmega, and Heracross that were actually good?
Good boost to the roaster and the move pool with gen 4 helping a lot.
@@ttttillermand and Armaldo. And Forretress became fairly decent in Gen IV when it finally got access to moves like Bug Bite and Gyro Ball.
And right afterwards they added yet another type that resisted Bug, because we can't have nice things
Also the dark type. Unova was a blessing to those two types.
Man, gen 5 really said, "So what if we didn't make the bug type garbage?"
Also said "let's wait until after the first gym before you can get them" which is really stupid lol
Then gen 7 cames in and made at least 2 more
And make the champion bug type based
The bug types in this generation are really good. I’m glad they made them powerful instead of the usual early encounter wimpy bug types that evolve into the final type quickly.
Ok I have to stick up for Minccino and Cinccino, I love those little guys. Yeah they're basic but they're cute and skill link is fun to mess with
Skill link kings rock go brrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Not to mention technician boosted tail slap. That move can be insane
I love the smell of new Nuzlocke runs in the morning ☕️
Yessss. Best comment ❤️
New Nuzlocke… Runs..?
This Nuzlocke gave you the runs? Gross 🤢
😂🤣 Yeah, I saw a opening for a joke 😅 And I took it!
I still can’t believe Accelgor isn’t part Ghost type. It makes sense if you’ve ever read Escavalier’s Pokédex entry and the ghost typing would make it much better imo
Watch your mouth Jack. Not all bugs are ghosts when you want them to be. Accelgor is perfect how it is. YOU ARE A DEVIL
Gen 5 was literally the best era of bug types
Scolipede is amazing
Scolipede is literally my favorite Pokémon! I’m so glad it’s finally getting some love ❤
Scolipede enjoyers>>>
Scolipede was one of the pokemon that i kept as part of my main team
Fun fact, that silent woman Silph called Red is actually a zoruark in disguise, the only way to break it is to get celebi and bring her there while she’s in your party
Celebi isn’t a girl read a book about feminist theory already
@@SECRET.KISMET chill bruh it's not a big deal
No, it is, actually. Stop thinking you can speak for everyone about that - especially considering that you’re from the more privileged demographic here.
This bug type line-up is really aesthetically cool, they got the drip.
Galvantula clutch. Those last battles were insane
I love all gen 5 bug types. Galvantula is my favorite overall Pokémon too, funny how it lives to the end
I’ve always loved scolipede! He may not be the best mon but he’s probably my favorite gen 5 mon
33:33 Focus miss hits.
Everyone: *W* *A* *T*
Spectre, I love watching your Nuzlocke's. I've been in the hospital for six weeks now due to a broken femur, but watching your content always puts a smile on my face, even through the pain. So keep up the great work man, and I can't wait for next Sunday!
Dang, hope you heal up soon!
A broken femur!? Damn man, that's a tough (and painful!) bone to break. Best of luck with the recovery and so glad the videos can keep you entertained in the meantime!
Being in the hospital sucks, get well soon dude
get well soon mate!!

Silph could you please do a final segment where you decide which Pokémon was the MVP of the run? I think it would be really cool to hear your opinions and who you thought really carried the team the most, most of all i love your videos! they’ve gotten me to start nuzlocking myself, and truly making play throughs amazing for me again 🙏🏻
10:08 Funfact for people who didn't know: "Gesundheit" is the German word for health and is also used as equivalent for "Bless you!"
The only German I know is auf wiedersehen
@@johnapple6646 Could be less ^^
Silph I’m literally doing a bug nuzlocke on black 2, I love it. The encounters are amazing, some very strong bugs like leavanny, heracross, crustle and even volcorona 😁
Stealth rock against all the volt switches of the 4 gym would be broken, especially since two mons are flying type and lose a quarter of their health on a switch in
What a crazy and amazing run! You didn't even get to use some of the strongest Bugs like Volcarona, Heracross, and Scizor and still managed to pull it off! Hats off to you my man
Awesome run man, bug type is amazing, unova change bug types forever.
Gen 5 gave bugs a chance
Gen 7 gave bugs a railgun, a samurai, a bodybuilder, a supermodel, a ribbon with magic powers and an astronaut.
A ribbon with magic powers and an astronaut?
@@donovanlocust1106 ribombee and araquanid
@@majomaheriose ah
As a bug fan, I confess most competitive bugs came from black/white. Good luck Silph!
"Nobody cares about Minccino" bold words for someone in King's Rock Skill Link Tail Slap range
Yeah Og B&W ghetsis is brutal ! N is no pushover either, but I remember actually having to reload a save after losing to Ghetsis on my very first try bec I understimated his Electross !
kinda sus how Sewaddle had chlorophyl and then Leavunny has swarm on the 4th gym...
I did a Monotype Bug run of White 2 a little bit ago and it was a challenge but super fun! My team was Scolipede, Leavanny, Crustle, Escavalier, Galvantula & Volcarona and it was so fun using mons that I never used on a play through, I can confirm that Crustle was mvp so it sucks that yours got crit in this run ☹️
I love it that the sole survivor on the run is my beloved Galvantula. Love to bring down the thunder with it whenever it's available
Next time you do a B/W run it would be really cool if you kept going to Cynthia like you do for Red in HG/SS.
That would be a great challenge!
Let's go! My favorite nuzlocker doing a nuzlocke in my favorite Pokémon game I'm glad this came out during my crappy week
I'm a proud owner of tarantulas, leaf nymphs, praying mantis's and much more so I naturally love the bug type pokemons. Love seeing full bug runs! Great video as always.
Black and White and BW2 are my most favorite games and I kept replaying them, the thought of replaying with all of these limitations make me want to crack open my 3ds and replay them again.
It makes sense that Snorlax has low defense. Defense is basically the 'How effective the average punch is against me'. If you have a lot of armour, the average blow will not do much. However when you're really small, or agile the average punch will not be effective as you move out of the way only getting a glancing blow (or missing entirely) as evasion doesn't really work that way, the chances of missing a blissey is the same as missing a pidgey, the defense stat also covers that dexterity side of things. Whilst this isn't consistent (Pheramosa looks like it would be tough to land a good blow) I do think it's a bit easier to land a good punch on a Snorlax then a Sewaddle, even if you have to land a lot of them (HP is the how much punishment you can take)
I remember using Galvantula way back in the day when I first played Gen5. It has a surprising amount of options, too. Electro Web for the speed control, Volt Switch for clean switches, Electro Ball for higher damage since it has such good speed, and Thunder with pretty decent accuracy if you have Compound Eyes.
I dont think rollout has to be used right after defense curl, you just have to use defense curl on any turn before using rollout (without switching out).
(Great vids!)
That watchhog ko had me dying inside. I'm seriously so surprised you got it but that's what theory crafting gets you. Thanks for another good run silph hope life is good to you.
Ngl you got really lucky against that zebsrika, I did the calc and with max attack IVs and EVs you only had a 50%chance to kill from that range with leavanny and the IVs being max is extremely unlikely so the odds are actually lower.
In the vid you do say you kill with a swarm boosted bug bite, but when you caught it you said and showed it had chlorophyll so there was no swarm boost to help, just a really luck roll preventing a wipe.
The zebsrika also got the lowest roll possible for the flame charge as well so that luck is insane
Oh this is gonna be a good one. Excited to see my darling Scolipede kick some ass!
aaah great, new video's from Vanman, scott's thoughts & Silphspectre today, this is awesome.
I never liked or really used bug types ever in Pokémon games until this generation after getting killed by skyla over and over with my team of water, ground, ground, fire, poison. I needed an electric type and caught joltik and evolved it and loved it galvantula is my favorite bug type, especially for compound eyes thunder, I never saw thunder miss during my play through
Love your editing man, keep it up!
Have you done an eevee/evolution only challenge? That would be really interesting to see how difficult it would be with just eevee and it's evolutions
Depending on the game it's done in the challenge can be anything from nonexistent due to the type and coverage diversity to maybe easy difficulty. While most Eeveelutions aren't competitive level they definitely aren't slackers(apart from Flareon who was practically useless for a while as it had practically no access to physical moves and its special attack stat is mediocre at best)
@@alexpink3204 this is true. Maybe only allowed another eevee per badge?
Being an Eevee enthusiast, I fully support this.
Gen 1 would be rough, 4 would have good variety.
@@13JackStorm the later the better I think, the more variety the more we get to see the unique way of tackling the game
@@bamsarnie Very true. Unless Scarlet and Violet add a new one, best we can get is 7, 8 or 9. With 8 or 9 Eevees ironically
Such a trully EPIC monotype challenge video especially how silph challenges himselef to think which is trullly unique amongst other poketubers out there 10/10!
The moment you are about to go to bed on a sunday. And you see that you have done another nuzlocke. Gold! Keep up the good work!
Bug type really sucks. But bug Pokémon can’t actually still be really good! I like Bug Runs a lot more than I initially thought I would!
I would like to thank Silph for consistently proving how awesome the Bug type is! I vote a series- Bug Type Genlocke!
Gen 5 did bug types so good 💚
Man scolipede is my favorite pokemon, and gen.5 has some of the best Bug types and i love bug type pokemon!
I've always had fun with Cinccino! Skill Link + Tail Slap + Scope Lens/King's Rock? Awesome sauce.
Gen V is my favourite, and with the best Bug types in the series. Love this video!
Ah yes, Silph Sunday. The best day of the week!
I love Unovan Bugs, they are so good!!!
I absolutely love the Bugs in this generation. They are so much fun to use! Great run as always! I wonder though, because I didn't see it, but did Sheriff have Compoundeyes? If it did, that 100% accuracy Thunder is looking mighty fine (with a Wide Lens equipped). And 100% acc Charge Beam is also very cool (but I see why both Electroweb and Volt Switch are great too).
Hey Silph, love the content and always look forward to seeing the next nuzlocke run go up! Just a quick question though, have you thought about doing any more of the true power series for some of the newer gen characters, I know some of them don't have quite as deep canon reach as the others did with their inclusions in multiple games/settings and across the anime/manga etc but I really enjoyed those videos and the true power tournaments too! Keep up the great work and thanks for all the effort you put in to the videos!
YES!!! IVE WANTED A GEN5 BUG TYPE FROM YOU FOR SO LONG!!
When Silph said "Imagine being the Univa Region Champion, and the biggest Crime organization within the region, discussing your 30 year relationship, then BAM! Two children drops from the roof" Is literally how my sister and I came into this world.
This video gave me "All these squares make a circle" vibes
Tbh I just love this gen! I never get tired of the runs for these games
Great vid to watch after church, thanks Silph!
Man, you never cease to entertain and amaze. This was SO close to a fail, but somehow, you managed. 41/7. Another interesting run finished. 🙂
Great run! I always advocate for Bug Types and Gen 5 so to see both get so much love and appreciation~ I was hoping for Resident Evil themed nicknames as alot of enemies are bug themed but I like the names you chose :)
I cant believe I have to say this but IGNORE the bot replying to me, ITS A SCAM. Dont interact with it, just report it.
Really love your videos Silph! 😊 I’m an “oldschool” lad myself, so have never played games beyond 3rd gen, but your content is really entertaining non-the-less 😊 keep up the good work!
I’d say gen 4 and 5 count as oldschool, highly recommend playing them! But I guess you’ve already seen alot of spoilers in his nuzlockes haha
Oof that final battle was a close one!
Great run!
Oh my god even though I was watching the video I went into a panic when I heard the iPhone ringtone when the Xtranciever went off 😂😂😂
love this type thank you so much silph keep up the great work!!
I really enjoy your nuzlockes, Silph, I`d love to watch you Hardcorelocke all pokemon games from Gen I and onwards, without the monotype rules also cause it is fun as well. Greetings from Cuba, looking forward for your next video.
3:12 I thought someone was calling me then
A huge thanks to you Silph for always giving us lots of fun! Thank you! Can't wait to see the next one!
2:20
I still own my wii. And that thing ain't leaving my life until the Hulk smashes it
What a wild run oh my goodness! Thanks for the awesome content you put out keep it up!
these runs comfort me,thank you for uploading
Gen 5 was the gen that dared to ask "What if Bug types... didn't suck ass?"
Not only did that get great moves like Quiver Dance and Struggle Bug, AND gave us a few competitively viable lines to this day like Galvantula and Volcarona, but literally EVERY Gen 5 Bug type has an awesome design.
Cheers to Gen 5 for showing that Bug types are not only not to be slept on, they can easily be the team centerpiece.
Can we appreciate that PETE 2.0 had Shell Armor?
It was a crit from Musharna that killed the first Pete, after all.
That female Venipede reminded me of the best girl scolipede that carried me during my 1st game in black2, Unova really has the best bugs. Great video as always.
The reason the bridge is nicknamed “Charizard Bridge” is because if you wait long enough, you can hear a faint charizard cry. It’s very distinct.
That Zoroark read was kind of nasty to be honest lol
I love gen 5 games - so many pokemon, colourful, moving sprites, and nice story. Time to replay them. Thank you for the challenge run=)
“iPhone ringtone”
Silph: *MOMMY?*
The bug type is my favorite type, so I’m always in on a nuzlocke with em, especially in Unova, which are my favorite games
This is awesome. I love scolipede, I have him and ferrothorn as my tanking Pokémon mostly, with a haxorus as my damage dealer (if I can get one), and whatever else I get is dependent on the game.
What makes me sad about bug type runs in gen 5 is that we rarely see Volcarona :( love your videos mate! Keep it up.
My man silph! Stay awesome!
Hoo Boy! Those N and GHETSIS battles were amazingly close! Wish you could somehow battle Alder in post game as he is a bug type Champion and Quiver Dancing Volcarona would be quite threatful to deal with bug types. But this was amazing though.
the hiker with a pikachu is actually a pretty dark joke when you speak german =)
when someone sneezes you answer "Gesundheit (stay healthy)"
so the person who gave him the pikachu wished for health... because he or she was pretty ill - i asume =)
and
sry ... i am non native speaker my english is a bit rusty
Karrablast really just is a Larry for some reason.
Never done before? A gen 5 bug nuzlocke has happened before, what are ya saying mate?
Bro I was thinking that bug type is wrost type but after this video, I m motivated to attend hardcore nuzlock with only bug type in Pokemon white
Black and white added the strongest bug types.
@@nicholasneyhart396 yeah
It took me way too long to find these videos but I’m hooked
Bug is the best type yo

5th gen gave bug types a Super Saiyan boost
Did this a year ago, bug is my favourite type and gen 5 introduced so many great ones
justice for Mr. Lock
This is perfect , I wanted a fresh nuzlocke and bam, I love hardly used pokemon , so happy spooky month!!!
23:03 Acrobatics off the bat. Ha!
bugs need more love idc . in gen 1 bug type is actually really useful, but purely because of how we feel about bugs being weak and gross they have pathetic stats and no bug stab for some reason? even though back then it was the ONLY thing effective against psychic? chip on my shoulder about bug types I guess, just glad they’re strong now
I love the 5G for his pokemon. Too many pokemon are cool. Too many team are possible for me to make.
And the Bug type in particulary have many combinations.
Bug Fire with Volcarona, Bug Grass with Leavanny, Bug Electric with Galvantula, Bug Poison with Scolipede, Pure Bug with Accelgor, Bug Steel with Escavalier, even Bug Rock with Crustle.
Really love whirlipede's design
Nice run! Will you be getting back to the True Power Tournament? Would love to see those battles now that BDSP has been out awhile!
Yei!!! another one this week, feels like Christmas :3
I'd love to see a normal-type runthrough of B/W, I don't think I've seen one of those yet.
