Hi Kendra! I'm so glad you and your beautiful babies are doing so well after your birth. As an old Labor and Delivery nurse, I just want to tell you...just because these babies weren't born vaginally doesn't mean your body isn't capable of it. It could've been the shape of your pelvis, or the way the first baby was positioned (as in she wasn't pressing down on your cervix the right way to help you dialate). You gave it your all and tried your best and you should be proud of that. In the end what's important is that you and your beautiful babies are happy and healthy! I've always been frustrated when I've had to leave a shift before a patient delivers because it's nice to have that continuity of care throughout your delivery experience. Much love to you and your sweet family!

I'm a doctor and while I wasn't there I would be interested to hear why they needed to induce you at that time. If the babies were fine (meaning that there was no concern for placental insufficiency) I, personally, would have let you be and wait for you body to help me know that it was time. The most important thing is that you and the girls are safe and healthy, but for future pregnancies, it might be worth asking. Congratulations on your beautiful girls! You and their health is the most important thing!

Kerri Carter I think she said she wanted to have her babies like normal birth and the doctor told her her babies they were big and this was the perfect time to have them before they get more big.
my English is not the perfect because is not my language I hope you understand me 😊

Kerri Carter she said it was safest to deliver at that time because they are identical and were sharing a placenta, if i remember correctly.

At the end of the delivery video you looked so very exhausted and maybe a little in pain or in shock. I'm very happy to see you and the babies are doing well. I would like to hear more about your diet & supplements now and what you think was the most important thing you have done for your recovery process.

Thank you so much for sharing with us Kendra! You're too kind to fill us in on all the details. I had very similar issues with my delivery with my first in that I actually went into labor on my due date, got an epidural (once I dilated to 5cm) and was progressing very well, but then I had to be rushed into a c-section due to complications with my son. I got so sick, couldn't stop shaking, Sooooo itchy and trying to keep my eyes open and not fall asleep was almost unbearable. They explained it to me later in why my body reacted that way and it turns out its very common. You've received medication (like the epidural) for a vaginal birth, but end up having a cesarean so you're given conflicting meds and they can give you horrible side affects like the shaking and itching. I'm sure there is way more to it and I don't have all the specifics, but you explaining everything you experienced just brought flashbacks and I know exactly how you felt (in some ways). Thank you for opening up to us and being honest about your feelings and struggles and the reality of giving birth. You are not alone and they are here and absolutely beautiful! You are Super Woman!

Kendra Atkins I got the cervidil with my first baby holy crap that was the worst experience ever took 23 hours to work and they had to do it twice. Hurt so bad. With my second they did pitocin and that was so much better contractions were insane but still better. Hoping to go on my own with this baby.

    • @mariahmoscrop190
      @mariahmoscrop190 7 лет назад

It's so crazy how bodies react differently. I was induced at 36 weeks and they used two doses of cervidil on me, no pitocin and that was all my body needed to evict my daughter lol.
Your girls are gorgeous! Congratulations! 💗💗

I loved your story. I remember my pregnancy. I gained 60 lbs with one baby and when they were going to induce me, they put the Cervidil and it kickstarted labor but after lots of hours later I got a C-section. As much as I wanted vaginal birth, my baby's safety comes first. He weighed 10 lbs so now I know there was no way he was coming out. You're such a beautiful mom!! Congrats!

I've had C-sections with both of the births of my daughters. The first one I was pumped up with pitocin, and my pain afterward was so much worse! That stuff really works your uterus, and makes the immediate recovery so much more rough!

I'm so sorry they forced you into labor before your body was ready! I've heard so many stories like this about induction. I've had 2 kids both ways (one at 36 weeks because my water broke and she was breech - c section), the second one vaginally and when my body decided. I hope if you ever have another you trust your body and instincts. congratulations on their healthy birth!

I love that you're breastfeeding even after everything you went through. My one regret is not breastfeeding my kids. I've had 4 C-sections and the recovery can be tough. Take extra care of yourself! Even when you think you're fine, don't push yourself. I still have issues from when I didn't take it easy during my recovery period, and my kids are now 6, 8, 12 and 15. Your girls are so beautiful! May God continue to bless your family

  • @sadiejosiemom

My kids are all grown now but I was three days over due when my labor was induced with twins. After 11 hours of labor and profuse bleeding, dr trying to pull my cervix over one baby's head in the birth canal I was offered a c-section. I had the option of being awake during it but I was fairly delirious at the time and when the anesthesiologist came in to give me my options, I said just knock me out and get it over with - or just kill me - LOL! My babies were 8 lbs 4 oz each and like you said, they were both trying to be born at the same time - impossible! I think we stayed in the hospital for about 5-7 days and I would've stayed longer if I could because I had a 5 and 3 yo at home (all four were boys) and my stress level was pretty high. I breastfed but I didn't feel like my milk was really coming in like with the other two so I supplemented with formula and after about a month or two I gave up. I don't even remember it being an issue for my breasts - so I felt it was meant to be. I think I was just too stressed having so many little ones at a time. I don't know how parents of triplets or more cope at all!

Ahhh memories. I had forgotten about the mesh underwear. I had a vaginal birth and I loved the ice packs they gave you for down there. My only child in now almost 19. Congrats to you and hubby over the addition of the girls. I am glad you are so honest. No one had ever told me how breast feeding hurts in the beginning but seeing my child get chubby cheeks because of me was fulfilling.

With my second son, I had a scheduled c-section and requested to go home after two days. People think I'm crazy for it, but like you said, I just wanted to get the hell home where I would be most comfortable. I am currently 15 weeks pregnant with #3 and am already planning on asking to go home again after two days as long as everything goes as planned. lol 😁

Congrats, Kendra! I had a vaginal birth (my son is now 4 months old) and my post-birth hospital experience was pretty similar. I only opened my bag for chapstick and toiletries, as well! I think the main difference with recovery is that they want you to stay off your feet and they check out your scar when you have a c-section, whereas they check the stitches "down there" when you have a vaginal birth. I took home so many pairs of that wonderful mesh underwear lol!!

Thanks for doing this video. I'm not one for labor videos but wanted to hear the story of the girls birth since I've been following you for so long. C section or not, the most important thing is that the baby/babies arrive healthy into the world after the mama takes such good care of them in the womb :) there's definitely a magic to vaginal births but I think c section mamas get the short end of the stick in the ~mommy blogger world~ and that is just so silly bc all they did was make the best decision for their baby. So happy that your girls didn't have to be in the NICU like sometimes multiples babies can be. So blessed! But didn't they check Violet for jaundice before sending you guys home? And you had a light at home for it? Haha. You seem to have taken to motherhood naturally. Still waiting for you to share the secret of how you tell them apart lol! Congrats again! 💕

I don't know how some girls look so perfect right after the labor, with their hair and makeup done. I did not want to take pictures, all I was thinking is taking a shower and relaxing :). Sounds so much like my experience being checked after 2 rounds of cervadil was the worse pain ever, luckily I was able to have epidural the 3rd day which made the petocin contractions more bearable. I wrote down my labor and delivery that way I'll never forget. Looking back now, it was worth every hour of being induced, all 53 hours ;)

I'm starting to think inducing labor never works. I was tortured for two days and maxed out on pitocin, then sent home with no baby. Tried again after a week and a half for a whole day. Still no baby, csection! They over do the fluids. My feet were swelled for weeks. We made it though! Congrats on tbe girls!

benoodles I was induced full term and he is my first and only (I've been told most first time moms don't do well with inductions). I went in at 6am and had my son that night at 5:09. A girl across the hall was the same except she ended up needing a c-section because she wasn't progressing at all. I guess it all depends on the body.

Thank you so much for sharing!!
I’m having twin boys they are fraternal, so a little different than your girls, but my doctor is already telling me that they are big for twins, twins tend to be smaller they say, they are each basically like normal size babies. Having said that my doctor keeps mentioning a c-section, so I think they are trying to mentally prepare me for one. They do say its all in the positions of the babies too, so if by week 35 I think they aren’t position right, than definitely I’m having a c-section.
Funny how in the beginning of my pregnancy I wanted a Birthing center with a midwife, but the minute I found out it was twins my doctors where like nope, you are high risk so birth in the OR is your option.

Sounds so much like my birth experience. Although I had to be induced early due to preeclampsia, pitossun just didn't work for me either. After getting an epidural, I progressed but not enough to make a difference, so a c-section for me. I was induced on a Monday and had my daughter Wednesday afternoon. Definitely not waiting that long next time! Glad you and the babies are doing well!

Where did you have pain after the C-section, just at the incision area? How long did it take to recover and resume normal activities? Any side effects of the C-section? I am due in April and very nervous.

Are you using a breast pump? If so, how is that going? Any advice about which bottles to use?
What have you been eating these past few weeks?
Is your husband able to stay home with you for these first few weeks? If not, do you have other family members or friends there helping you?
Do you have Baby Blues? Any advice for that?

Loved this! You went through a lot and I'm kind of nervous for my first in 9 weeks but if you can handle what you did I must be able to too!

I have a 5 month old right now, and I can agree with you about a lot of things during birth. It isn't like the magazines or the stories. You are discusting and just want a bath. I had to stay for three days, and I didn't even have a c-section. Your babies are adorable and I am surprised how much you went through.
My question is this: What is your routine like now that you have children? I feel like I had to adjust to everything when my daughter was born.

Hi Kendra! This might be a weird question or already asked, were you able to drive a car the whole pregnancy? How does that work with a huge baby bump? I hate driving, it just makes me nervous! Hope that will become a good excuse to have my hubby drive me around lol!

Congrats!!! Just a quick question....which prenatal vitamins did you take? I've been debating between preg V and Mega Baby Multi Vitamin with natural folate as opposed to the more chemically derived folic acid.

Alex Milosev I'm taking Deva prenatal vitamins and I love them. They're vegan, they do include iron, and they're very affordable on Vitacost's website.

My questions for your postpartum video would be emotions you went through after. And also how breastfeeding is going especially with two.

I am a senior nursing student and I just found out that I was placed on the labor and delivery floor this semester! Is there anything that you wish your nurses would have done or done differently? Was there anything they did that you really appreciated that I can remember to incorporate? :)

i was 40 weeks and 3 days when my dr said he wanted to induce me at 9pm... I was so upset because i wanted to go all natural... but pitocin made my contractions so bad... on the monitor my contractions were going off the chart at just 4 cm... the nurse told me i was a badass mama... That mine looked like someones natural contractions at 8cm...it was scary because my contractions were like less then a minute about...and lasted for 2 minutes. I was also having a hard time breathing, my left lung felt like it was being squeezed during every contraction. we learned later that it was my sons foot. But my mama, the dr on call and i talked. with my breathing and everything we were worried i would have to have a c section. So my mama thought getting an epidural would help the breathing issues. So at just 5 cm I need up getting it. i was really upset about it. I also think it was the hospital too. Because they didn't give me any freedom at all. i couldn't move around, they didn't have a tub...they didn't follow 95% of my plan. except breastfeeding less then an hour after. but hey. my son Leo was born 6/7/16 at 3:02pm 7lbs 5oz 21.5 in long He just turned 7 months old. it didn't go the way i wanted but he was healthy and thats all that matters. it was the best day of my life.

I'm 19 and my mom gave birth to identical twin girls 9 months ago and I went into the OR with her and I thought the same exact thing when I got in there. I was imagining something out of Greys Anatomy but it was nothing like it the room looked really plain and bright. The doctors were listening to the radio the whole entire time, my sisters were born to the sound of Taylor Swift blank space lol As I'm sure you've figured out by now it's a lottttt of work I honestly have no idea how my mom does it, (it's also the best type of birth control for a teenager to live in a house with twins 😂) so much respect!! For her and for you! Congrats on the super cute babies!!! I absolutely love the names, and I love seeing them on snapchat it almost makes me miss when my sisters were that little.... almost

I was the same way with the hospital bag, except I didn't shower in the hospital. I wanted to get home asap and be comfortable to have my shower, so I discharged the next evening after having given birth. I had a vaginal birth.
