We need to share this and other Bernie videos. As he asks us at every turn, we need to do some civilized, civic action to do our part in achieving these essential goals.Such civic action does not have to take lots of time, or even any $. Healthcare, infrastructure, Campaign and Election Reforms, the list goes on. Sen. Sanders works so very hard. He goes to areas with known problems to LISTEN, then he goes back to DC, does his research and brainstorming, and delivers solid solutions. Until we stand with him, these goals cannot be met. We can let our own members of Congress know that we fully support Sen. Sanders' work. We are also free to phone bank/volunteer for/donate to any candidate for our U.S. House and Senate, regardless of which state we reside in. We can help unseat the hostile inadequates and return genuine representation to D.C. We must regain majorities in the House and Senate to safeguard our democracy and American freedoms from the R's Project 2025. They are attempting to destroy our Bill of Rights and turn our nation into a dictatorial, "theocracy,". In order to keep our govt. of, for and by the People, We the People have to show up. I believe we will. Please spread the word, and ask friends and family members to do the same. This year's elections are the most important in our nation's history, and will decide our future as free people living in a free nation, or losing our freedoms. Now is definitely the time.
PS It is also the purview of Congress to impeach/remove Supreme Court Justices who are neither supreme nor just.

U.K. resident here, 3 months ago at the age of 69 I was taken to hospital having suffered a heart attack. After 4 days I was taken to a different hospital for an angiogram, which showed I needed a triple bypass. It was another two weeks before the nearest hospital performing the operation could fit me in. So I spent a total of four weeks in hospital, including 5 days after my surgery. The total cost to me was zero, nothing, not a penny. During that time I was looked after by the nurses, doctors, and all the ancillary staff, and fed well three times a day. All at no cost whatsoever to me, other than the taxes I had paid during my working life, which I don’t believe were any higher than your USA taxes. I just can’t believe the opposition in America for a decent tax funded national health service. We pay a modest sum for prescriptions here, which would equate to around $12. This is for each medication, but if you have a chronic condition, needing many medications you can pay an annual fee. People on benefits don’t pay prescription charges, neither do diabetics, and certain other conditions. Once you turn 60 prescriptions are free, and no one is charged for a consultation with their doctor. This is not communism, it may possibly be called socialism, as may our state retirement pensions. Come on America, join the 21st. century.

There's very little Coordination of Care, Specialists are WAAAY too expensive, Insurance companies have WAAAY Too much control!
Sure, I work full time, I have insurance, but can I afford the doctors I need to see? NO!
Can I afford the prescriptions, the tests, the imaging, the radiologists (who, btw: bill once and immediately send you to collections)? NO!
I have an endocrinologist but I don't even have a GP! Finding a GP that's local, affordable, understands my ongoing health issues, doesn't make me feel like I'm crazy and actually LISTENS...yeah, that's nearly impossible when you move from one state to another.
If you change jobs, you have to change ALL the doctors and you're starting over from scratch! Wasting time and money!
Years of a built up relationship with one doctor, one job change and all that time and money spent getting to know your doctor, your doctor getting to know you, your ailments, your reactions...etc....just TRASHED!
And that can mean the difference of Live or Death of a patient!
Having to start over with a new insurance deductible, new doctors, new tests and labs, it's Overwhelming for so many.
Many, give up and don't bother following up and putting themselves and their finances through all that.
COORDINATION OF CARE Across Carriers, across state lines, from one set of doctors to another... There HAS GOT TO BE A BETTER WAY!

Its disgusting that the poverty levels and all related to it haven't changed. DISGUSTING
Its (living!) too expensive for my neighbor, who is disabled on Medicaire. Has about 25k to live off annually ,but pays out 10% just on Medicare and Part D, just to be covered. Then 1200-1500 a year for the meds themselves. Gets no assistance for anything. Not housing, no SNAP, no nothing. He needs surgery but it costs 1500 just to sit in a hospital bed 1 night plus all the rest of his 20%. Needs oral surgery and denture, but has zero coverage for that and no Medicaid. Then he needs another surgery in 6- 12 mos after the first.
How can he afford to be alive? Hes not TECHNICALLY poor but barely scrapes by some months. No family living, nothing.
Thom Hartmann explains the hidden evil and rascism of that 20% responsibility, originally (and still) meant to keep poor people of color from seeing a doctor but the country can say - he they have healthcare !
Now it's also disabled people with a good work history, hovering just above the margins for any assistance at all.
Usa is a pitiful, shameful, haven for rich sociopaths.

A small example of the cost issue. I knew someone, without insurance, who went to a walk-in clinic. Along with the ridiculous charge, for the doctor, they charged him a $250 "registration fee". At a frigging walk-in.

Democracy is when those who make decisions on your behalf have the duty to ask for your consent first. Today's republics are actually modern oligarchies where the interest groups of the rich are arbitrated by the people, that is, you can choose from which table of the rich you will receive crumbs.
The "fatigue" of democracy occurs when there is a big difference between the interests of the elected and the voters, thus people lose confidence in the way society functions. As a result, poor and desperate citizens will vote with whoever promises them a lifeline, i.e. populists or demagogues.
The democratic aspect is a collateral effect in societies where the economy has a strong competitive aspect, that is, the interests of those who hold the economic power in society are divergent. Thus those whealty, and implicitly with political power in society, supervise each other so that none of them have undeserved advantages due to politics. For this reason, countries where mineral resources have an important weight in GDP are not democratic (Russia, Venezuela, etc.), because a small group of people can exploit these resources in their own interest. In poor countries (Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, etc.) the main exploited resource may even be the state budget, as they have convergent interests in benefiting, in their own interest, from this resource. It is easy to see if it is an oligarchy because in a true democracy laws would not be passed that would not be in the interest of the many.
The first modern oligarchy appeared in England at the end of the 17th century. After the bourgeois revolution led by Cromwell succeeded, the interest groups of the rich were unable to agree on how to divide their political power in order not to reach the dictatorship of one. The solution was to appoint a king to be the arbiter. In republics, the people are the arbiter, but let's not confuse the possibility of choosing which group will govern you with democracy, that is, with the possibility of citizens deciding which laws to pass and which not to.
The solution is modern direct democracy in which every citizen can vote, whenever he wants, over the head of the parliamentarian who represents him. He can even dismiss him if the majority of his voters consider that he does not correctly represent their interests.
It's like when you have to build a house and you choose the site manager and the architect, but they don't have the duty to consult with you. The house will certainly not look the way you want it, but the way they want it, and it is more certain that you will be left with the money given and without the house. It is strange that outside of the political sphere, nowhere, in any economic or sports activity, will you find someone elected to a leadership position and who has failure after failure and is fired only after 4 years. We, the voters, must be consulted about the decisions and if they have negative effects we can dismiss them at any time, let's not wait for the soroco to be fulfilled, because we pay, not them. In any company, the management team comes up with a plan approved by the shareholders. Any change in this plan must be re-approved by the shareholders and it is normal because the shareholders pay.

Medical biller here - with all the provider side call centers getting transferred to off shore. Where is the money going that they are saving. The customer service is terrible and getting harder to deal with. Can’t get through to the home plan cause they make it extremely difficult to get past the automated system. Insurance processes the claim in correctly, even though the clearing house passed on the information correctly. They refuse to send back for review. We all know insurance doesn’t want to pay, but when they make it impossible to deal with them, that should be illegal. Reporting to insurance beuro is a joke. Reporting to state senate is a joke. There is not a single insurance carrier that I will personally support. But then again, I can’t afford insurance and to use it. Our government doesn’t want physically or mentally healthy Americans, AND IT SHOWS!

Gee. I wonder why so many Canadians and many patients from other counties travel to America and pay more for Healthcare? I’m not defending or saying we can’t improve our efficiency. There is always room for that. Germany has a,very efficient health system. They do not allow duplication of specialists within a certain geographical area. That alone saves millions of euros. But that works there due to the relatively high population density compared to the American Midwest.

It's a sham. My parents shouldn't have to pay as much as they do for insurance when they don't even come close to racking up the same amount or more in medical costs annually. Whether you have private insurance, medicare, or medicaid, this Capitalist "healthcare" system is not working for the middle and lower class. We keep hearing about staff shortages, yet many healthcare groups are at the very same time laying off hundreds if not thousands of workers. I would love for someone to disagree with the above and do so in a way that makes sense.

I would like to know what percentage of total healthcare costs go toward 1. Insurance Company profits and 2. To Medical Malpractice Insurance. Congress had the opportunity reduce medical costs by bringing malpractice awards down but said no, it’s OK for having any problems turn into winning the lottery. Just compensation should be the expectation, not millions and millions of dollars.

    Universal healthcare! Like civilized countries.

    • @LordDavid04
      @LordDavid04 6 дней назад

Universal healthcare with the option for private insurance like many countries do. They can co-exist. If you pay for your insurance or have it covered by work, then you can get priority treatment at whatever hospital you choose public/private for whatever medical procedure you need, even if it's not urgent or life saving.
Otherwise you just go into the public queue if you don't want to pay $$$ upfront and are willing to wait.
Subsidize prescription medicine like most other countries do as well, get rid of the greed of pharmaceutical companies to squeeze a profit. Many medicines made in the US that cost an American $$$ can cost other people around the world only a fraction of that because their country's government subsidize the cost, either directly upfront or through a rebate threshold.
And of course promoting healthy living and lifestyle reduces the overall strain to the healthcare system.

I’m 70, I think my healthcare is excellent, very affordable. I go to Mayo in Rochester MN. I also have a BMI under 24, walk every day, don’t smoke, rarely consume alcohol and eat very little red meat or poultry. Perhaps there is a correlation between being the most obese country in the OECD and our health outcomes. 😊
