Holy cow. This is quite possibly some of the most majestic and well shot video I’ve ever seen of a hunt. You and your camera man, and your videographer should be commended by all for your amazing work here. It’s such a blessing to watch a man living his best life. Kudos to you, Sir. Just amazing. I’d give anything to be out there on that hunt. AND WHAT A BULL!!!!! Holy cow! How many pounds of meat do you get out of an animal like that?
Man I sure appreciate the kind words, that means a lot. We sure work hard out there and glad the video reflects that. We got about 250 lbs of meat from this bull!
Congratulations on your success on taking down this big Elk. We all know its a big challenge. So much meat you have to leave behind. I admire you for being an accomplished deer hunter.
What a Slob!!! Hell of a shot! Congratulations! Looked like a great hunt! As open as it was I was curious how tough it would be? Looks like the horses helped in more ways than one! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Man that was awesome! I just listened to the Eastman’s podcast between running appointments today where you were talking about this hunt. To cool cool Dan!!!
Awesome Job Dan!!! That was probably the best Elk Hunt video I've ever seen. Great videography, perfect amount of storytelling/talking and lots of sweet action. I tip my hat to you and the videographer on capturing such an Iconic Elk hunt. Oh yeah, The Bull is pretty damn nice as well. Once again, Awesome Job
i have never shot a big game animal with my bow yet, so i know just how hard it can be just to get that close to them and get them to stop. Giant bull!!! Way to go!!!
I agree its alot about the experience, I remember first archery kill at 14 years old just like it was yesterday, but I some of my best times are from the experiences that had no connection to the harvest. Good luck man !
Awesome video, great shot. I believe both elk bolted because your bow is moving in the video while he has you pin pointed. I have never been able to flinch if an elk is staring me down. Just my take. Keep up the great work.
What a great video, that’s the way to put in the work. If you don’t mind me asking, was the broadhead that you used, it sure did the job after that great shot.
@@danpickar5442 Thanks for the reply, apreciate that. New to bow hunting and trying to learn what weights i need for different animals. Right now im setup with a total weight arrow with a muzzy one broadhead fixed, 380 grain total. Looking to take a deer and maybe a bear this year with it.
@@Longtrailside Yeah that will work for deer and bear just fine. I would try and get your total arrow weight up to 400 grs for elk if you can. Keep shooting those fixed broadheads, preferably cut on contact.
Just a habit! I find myself doing it a lot as well! I always ask myself why I’m still whispering, but what’s the point of being loud? When you love seeing critters, even though you got one, it’s still fun seeing them!! Just my two cents! PS…. Comets come from the sky! 😝🤣🤣
I dont hunt, but im taking an interest in these videos and maybe one day ill learn how to! But i have a question. When he shoots the deer I see something flying off to the right of the deer, is that the arrow? If so how does the deer die if the arrow missed?
Glad to hear your interest! Good luck on your hunting journey. Yes that is the arrow. The arrow passed through the elk and ricocheted off the rocks is why the arrow tumbled.
Just curious what release you were using on this hunt. Awesome hunt! Did a little packing for an outfitter in Idaho right out of high school. Unforgettable! Congrats on a great bull!
I heard about this hunt video dropping while listening to Brian Barney's Eastman's Elevated. He was right that is a big bull. I was wondering how he was going to get that bull way out in the open field, but since they were all on fire he was able to draw him into the burn and even use the horses as a decoy. Elk don't know how many legs a horse has. lol .... I know my heart would be pounding out of my chest for sure and not just from hiking. Congrats to you Dan and your biggest bull to date. I have yet to go elk hunting, I am from West Virginia. I hope to go in the next 5 years.
@@danpickar5442 you are welcome and I can tell by your excitement that it was. I would be pumped up too. That was awesome. I did go with my Dad and youngest bro to Idaho last fall for mule deer although I didn't have a tag. I just wanted to help and enjoy the experience. I planned on doing a 10 day mule deer/pronghorn combo hunt in Wyoming this fall but all kinds of circumstances caused me to not apply and just buy points in a few states. Good luck this fall with whatever hunts you have on your schedule.
If I was a big old bull who lived a good long life I would want to go out by a whistle in the wind rather than by a bear or a pack of wolves. What a good shot.
Yes, absolutely. All the things that make a good bow hunter, also make you more likely to spook up a bear. Give this video a watch where Dan breaks down what he carries for bear protection: ruclips.net/video/v58WL-1TxNU/видео.html
Hey guys, im just getting into the hunting sport. I am by no means a tree hugger or anything like that. This seemed a bit cruel just to kill the elk for its horns. I must be making assumptions here. do you guys also eat the elk, and consume the remaining bits of the animal? I want to get into this sport but im at a conflict with myself. Right when the bow is pulled back and you can see the elk, i wouldnt be able to get myself to do it... but i want to... do any of you guys also go through this? I would be able to justify it, if i can consume the entire thing...
Trophy hunting is not just about horns. All the meat was taken. In addition there are laws that require bringing the meat from the field. I grew up on wild game meat and have never bought beef from the store. I am a trophy hunter because it is such a challenge but there are many more trophy's than just the antlers on each hunt. Good luck on your hunting journey.
Your the man!! That was a great shot and video 👊👍🇺🇸

I would like to know where he hunts because whenever I go elk hunting, I never see one.
once you harvest the meat you need.do you leave the rest of the animal on the field?
Yes the rib cage and guts stay in the field. Wolves were after it the next morning.
I love seeing someone using horses for hunting, but the live deco part I'm unsure about haha

I'm also curious, what tripod is that for the spotting scope??
@@BeardedElk Its a bog pod with the trigger grip handle.
why isnt there any leaves on the pine trees?
Got a question! How do you protect the horses from predators while you're out glassing?
The horses will make a lot of noise if predators come around. Predators are always a risk when out hunting.
Awesome hunt
Can someone correct me bc I know nothing about horses but is that a lot of weight for them.
Depends an average rule of thumb would be they can carry 20% of what they weight safely so maybe 250-275 lbs
Dawson Frink ok thanks

???? the arrow bounced off the elk, fake?
It passed through and kicked up! Can't fake a elk expiring..
How long was that kill shot?
77 yds... I generally don't shoot unless its under 70 yds but he was locked on the horses and elk rarely jump the string so I decided to shoot.
