There was a miscommunication with the directors about who was ordering the mic tape. For all of tech week everyone with a mic had to wear various bandaids on our faces. We looked ridiculous but it was fun
Anyone have that one director who always casts its favorites into roles and NEVER gives any other actor a chance to be a star of the show? 😂😂 Just me? 😂😂 (silently goes to cry in a corner cause in the last show i literally got 5 lines and 2 nameless esemblys, Host and Child4)
lol not just you, last year my school did madagascar and i was ensemble/marty understudy and my best friend got cast as marty. she also was cast as the lead the year before. then this year it was seussical. I got cast as Mayzie (a lot better) and another person got gertrude who ALWAYS gets leads. i also didnt get a mic even though i was literally mayzie???? like whats????? (joins you in crying because everyone at my school is toxic including teachers)
I used to be always typecast as the male side character because I have a lowish voice while my friends were always leads. It sucked, but I’m starting somewhere new so hopefully I can be a lead.
Does anybody know how to act in love without breaking character? I’m the acrobat in Matilda and I can’t stop laughing during the scenes for the life of me I need help please opening night is next week pls thank you guys so much for the advice!! it helped a lot :) i was able to do the scenes without laughing, and my director said we were the best part of the play!! thank you!!! :))
Hey! I’ve gone through this exact same thing multiple times haha. What helped me was really shutting my brain off. I’m not me anymore I’m this character and this character wouldn’t laugh. Don’t think about the fact that you’re doing a lovey scene with a friend because that is what will make you laugh. Just fully become the character. I also found that when the audience is there all desire to laugh is completely gone because you really want to do a good job and put on a good show so you’re able to control your laughter. Hope this helps! And break a leg!!
somethings that helped me was bot be you during that moment you have to be your character although you may not be actually in love with that person your characters are and during that moment just completely be that character hope this helped
To all of the actors out there, as a part of set crew, if you are standing with your group of friends in the wings before your scene and before we have all of the big set pieces inside of the wings, don’t take it personally if the crew tells you sternly to GET OUT of the wings and GET BACKSTAGE, even if a sixth grader tells you, because we CANNOT get these 15-20 pound props into the wings and onto the stage silently and quickly if you and a group of people are all crowding around, there is hardly any space in the wings as is, so please, only go into the wings if the director or part of the CREW tells you to, or if your scene is starting in the next 10 seconds. We understand that you are trying to be prepared, but we also need the cast to understand that we are also preparing and once blackout starts in between scenes, crew is practically going to be sprinting or right away going to be pushing heavy props onto stage, in you are part of the cast/an actor, please listen to this comment 🙏, crew will be sooo grateful if cast just stays backstage until they need to go in the wings😭, thank you if you read this entire thing.
5:20 This happened to me once, there is a scene where my and my partner enter the house and they skipped the whole page and discussion he have before someone dies, and they died to early and we had to improvise on the spot, it was probably the funniest scene from the whole piece
10:41. When Gingy said “bite me” I immediately thought of Uzi from Md. Which is a coincidence because I am drawing Uzi rn in my sketchbook to give to my cousin for her bday today. She LOVES Uzi so much that she wants me to dress up as N for Halloween so that she could be Uzi😂💜💜

I can’t do a lot of these shows at my school because me have a small black box which is kinda funny because we had people begging my old theatre teacher to do newsies but we don’t have space to do it we also don’t have mics because our space is so small.

I just finished being matilda I my school show and for quiet get progressively louder try to yell when you practice slowly start singing during your yelling
16:12 im sorry, but does it ever infuriate you when the audience starts clapping along to the beat? its not a concert... edit: this actually happened to me twice in different shows, one was okay, i think the characters were motioning the crowd to clap along, but when i did wonka, the finale everyone started clapping along to the song, but the tempo changes when i come out to sing a part of candy man, and everyone didnt stop for a while 😭😭 then monday, i think, my friend saw it the day everyone was clapping, and she was like, “did you like my clapping during the finale?” and i said “no” 😭😭😭
it makes me so mad to see how prepared other people are, see our school decided to do competition instead of a spring musical. we have a competition in 16 days and we don't even have categories yet, and we have another competition a week after that.
