Saw the Allman Brothers Band 37 times. Safe to say that I'm a fan. Looking forward to this show
That's awesome! I saw then once in 1998 with Dickey Betts and Jack Pearson on guitar. Incredible show and memories. I'm glad I got to see them when Dickey was in the band.
Back in October eighth 1971 saw The Allman Brothers Band with Dwayne Allman, SF Winterland auditorium. 20 years later I started touring with The Allman Brothers Band performed my Light Show Brotherhood Of Light show continued for 25 years with the Allman Brothers, and now touring with the Alman Betts band for the past eight years. ABB music stands the test of time.
I would like to thank you for making many concerts very special for me
excellent! since the day my aunt bought me GRAND FUNK, live album, back in ,70 for my 10th birthday i was hooked on live albums!!!
OK so I finally got to hear the last 20 minutes of this episode. Man what an awesome discussion guys! I am all the way in! My favorite digital man cave definitely launched to another level for sure.
I can t believe as much of completists that you two fellas are, that you dont have the 6 disc "Live at Filmore East 1971 box set...it phenominal!! A must have, In my Opinion!!
This seems like a very interesting concept, The Allman Brothers Band definitely had a lot of live albums in the career. I'm sure the next installment is most likely Deep Purple.
Wiki lists 38 live albums!
*four installments
By 1989 I was a tie-died in the wool Deadhead and that year came across ABB's Fillmore East and yeah pretty spectacular. Immediately I felt a special kinship. How fortunate then that that was the year Dreams box set released which let to revitalization of band which which include lots of touring and live albums! Thanks for show!
Boy do I love the distinctive dynamics of Pete and whoever is in the co-captain's chair, and Rick is hitting me like a motivational rock N' roll speaker. Fiery and passionate. Looking way forward to these episodes my brothers!!!!
Great idea for a show - I'll be looking forward to these new series.
And The Allman Brothers Band is undoubtedly a perfect start !
This is the perfect series for jam band stuff. Would love to see appearances of The Grateful Dead, Gov't Mule and Phish
Do you guys realize that Duane was only 24 when he died? The mature songwriting that the band had was amazing at the time. Imagine how good he would have become! I can't think of a 24-year-old kid these days that would come close to matching any of this.
Ronnie Van Zant was only 25 when "Pronounced" came out. And he was the elder statesman. Allen Collins and Billy Powell were just 21. Gary Rossington was 22.
@@independenceltd. Absolutely, and they had been together for YEARS, as the 1% and Conqueror Worm, etc. So they were teens then.
@@SuprJoinT yep. guys had to work and slave for years to try and get a record deal, which was virtually the only way they'd get heard (outside of clubs). there was drive and determination to become better. now, guys can pick up instruments and put out a yootoob video a week later; they get a thousand views and they think they're special.
Great new series, Pete. Rick is the happiest, coolest, all around dude there is. You guys really clicked on this. The Allman Brothers are definitely in the top 3 of live bands. Some bands on my wish list that you'll cover, Thin Lizzy, Grand Funk Railroad, Uriah Heep, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Rory Gallagher and Jimi.
In memory of Elizabeth Reed on Wipe the windows is sublime
Incidentally, the song I'm Gonna Move To The Outskirts Of Town, which appears on Live At Ludlow's Garage and a few other live albums from the early Duane era, came to the band via the Ray Charles album Genius + Soul = Jazz. It was one of the two vocal tracks on that album, which was a favorite of the band at the Big House in Macon, along with Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue and John Coltrane - My Favorite Things
Great show Pete and Rick definitely looking to more shows like this. Allman Betts band is Doing amazing now honoring the music of Allman Brothers band. I saw Allman Betts Band couple weeks ago in Detroit, so far my favorite concert of the year what a experience. It was in filmore, and the band played for 2 hours and played Allman Brothers classic and their original material which was amazing, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed was the highlight of the concert for sure. I got to meet Devon and Duane after the show because the merch said if you buy merch 50 dollars or more you get a free ticket to meet and greet after show, which I did, and they sign the vinyl I purchased and picture with them it was amazing and two of the nicest people you will ever meet.
I think every hard core Allman Brothers fan should own their live Wipe The Windows Dollar Gas album. Is it the best one of theirs? No. But it was at a turning point for the band where Dickey was their only guitar player. The cool thing is they were touring with Chuck Level at this point who just kills it on keyboards. My first ABB live album so it will always remain a classic in my book.
At Fillmore East is the only live album I can think of by them.
Beacon, theater holds 2800 the Allman Brothers perform 232 shows there total.I wish I knew you Peter back then Could've got you good seats at cost.
Rick, if you can’t find a copy of ludlow garage on its own; it is included in the Idlewild South Deluxe edition 👍🏻
thank you
Next up: Grateful Dead (Parts 1 of 5) 😂 In all seriousness, great show. Got a couple Allman shows. One which is great but sadly incomplete is from New Years 1973/1974 feat. Jerry Garcia. It's a bootleg I think and runs for over 4 hours but fades out at the final song.
Boy do I love the distinctive dynamics of Pete and whoever is in the co-captain's chair, and Rick is hitting me like a motivational rock N' roll speaker. Far from preachy, but passionate. Looking way forward to these episodes my brothers!!!!
Dreams box set CD 3 was in slot 1 of my car's carousel for a decade. Not sure if that recording of You Don't Love Me / Soul Serenade was released anywhere else. If not, that track alone is worth the cost of the whole box set.
Very enjoyable episode Pete and Rick! The first show I ever did on SOT was top ten songs of the Allman Brothers Band with Pete. They have so many great live albums, from the early days with Duane up through the Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks eras. They are masters of improvisation when they're on stage. It's true that they never play a song the same way twice, which makes their live sets so exciting. They're taking you on a musical journey.
Great show guys, thank you so much for doing this.
Rick, you can get the Ludlow show with another live version of Elizabeth Reed on the deluxe version of Idlewild South.
You both need to get the deluxe version of Brothers and Sisters so you can the entire Winterland 73 show when Chuck Leavell is in the band. You get a 20 minute live Les Brers in A Minor.
The other thing about that Stonybrook show, Pete, it has the only official live version of Blue Sky with Duane!
Yeah, I think I need that!
I need to get that, Thanks for sharing
The House of Blues 1995 tv show is my favorite End of the Line performance 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great show you guys are right on The Allman Brothers band .The 40th anniversary DVD Live At Beacon is really great. They play the first two albums in their entirety live.
Friday morning....Popoff gone (vacation) but Pardo carries on with the great addition of Rick LaBonte to discuss live album catalogues and they begin with a long-time personal favorite - The Allman Brothers Band. As many know, saw the band live in a local battle of the bands contest before their initial album released and also got to hear them play/jam live in the parking lot of the Main Street shopping center down here in north central Florida as the band got much of their equipment from Lipham's Music Store and the owner made them play outside as they were too loud in the store. Those remain my favorite concerts of the band though saw them many times as they played nearby. Thanks, Pete and Rick, for such enthusiastic support of the band's live music.
I'm looking forward to a episode on live Deep Purple.
Pretty much agree on everything you guys said. An album I would include is The Bothers at Madison Square Garden in 2020, the show that Jaimo put together celebrating the 50th anniversary of the ABB, except for Dickey it was as much ABB as it could possibly be in 2020.
I really hope they would officially release more material post 2005, as far as I know, there are only two songs on the album from the Gregg Allman tribute concert album.
I don’t know if this exists but it would be really cool if they released a 1969 show.
Love the concept of the show
The Fox Theatre in 2004 they played The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. It’s the best version I’ve ever heard 🔥🔥🔥 they would play it hear n there but that version is amazing!!!
I became completely enamored with the Allman brothers as a high school student in the early 90s. I saw them in Boulder Colorado in February 1991, and I was so into the experience that to this day, I remember the set list. Do I have time to list it? LMAO!
Please tell me Rory Gallagher is on the list. He has several great live albums.
What a great concept. Lots of bands have lots of live albums and the Allman Brothers are one band that has tons! At Fillmore East Is a true classic and is just a masterpiece. But there’s other live albums from the band that I love like Peakin' at the Beacon which has the best version of Seven Turns, Cream of the Crop 2003 which has an incredible version of
Layla by Clapton and I gotta bring up Down in Texas '71 which has an absolutely smoking version of Hot 'Lanta! Clearly I enjoyed this! I’m looking forward to more of these shows! Thanks guys
Do you have the full 1971 Fillmore East Recordings which came out in 2014?
I do not.
Love this show! wish it could be a once a week thing. Thanks 🍺🤘!!
Hey everyone's thoughts on Robin thrower live at live at the bbc 73 to 75? Also the abb live albums are always solid Filmore east is a top 5 live album all time
On August 1, 1993 Zack Wylde filled in cause Dickey was in jail. It was the only time he played with them. They said he didn’t fit with the band but I think he sounded amazing. Still one of my favorite ABB bootlegs I have.
Much of the bad mouthing was from the notoriously miserable Butch Trucks. Zakk was a bad choice mainly in stage persona. He actually moved around and interacted with the audience, like a hard rock performer, instead of a stuffy elitist like the arthritic Trucks who had a hair across his ass for seemingly any band that came out of the south after 1972( Molly Hatchet, etc) so no surprise he disdained Zakk.
What about wipe the windows check the oil dollar gas from 1973 74 75 tours a great live album
Have fun when you get around to The Grateful Dead. 😅
Great show
Rick LaBonte is very good. He should be on with Pete more.
I've heard a song or two by The Allman Brothers Band growing up, but never appreciated it back then. But for someone that isn't really a fan of jam sessions, is there a good album overall to start with?
Check out Brothers And Sisters. Lot of shorter songs and phenomenal!
@@martinfranco3716 good recommendation
@@martinfranco3716 Ok, thanks for the recommendation!
😃👍
Derek Trucks replaced Warren when he left in 1999. Then when they kicked Dickey out Warren came back. There was a short 1999-2000 period with Dickey & Derek in the band. The only live album from that period was Peakin at the Beacon. It’s pretty cool
Derek replaced Jack Pearson….Warren and Woody booked after the ‘97 Beacon Run.
Well Grateful Dead (with 167 full-length live albums excluding boots they hold the official Guinness World Record - but see below!), Hendrix & maybe Phish (at least 25) - and now recently Zappa is joining the list - have a lock in terms of sheer volume of releases. Also Buckethead (at least 175 & counting - although I have a feeling he won't be featured here)...
Seems like there are a good number of Allman Bros live recordings too - Wiki lists 29. I think their earliest that I own is Live at Ludlow Garage 1970. And for 1971 there's A&R Studios Ny 26-08-71 plus the all time classic The Fillmore Concerts. From '72 there's Manley Field House Syracuse University, April 7, 1972, and from '73 you have Live At The Cow Palace, New Years Eve 1973. My latest are 2014's Live Oak & 2018's Unplugged...There are a bunch - I actually don't 'stockpile' multiple live versions of the same songs unless they're significantly different so that means I do skip many live releases that don't contain anything that's new to me (that keeps my list of live albums down)
Some of the best were the New Year's Eve shows they played for a few years in a row here in New Orleans at the Warehouse. Those shows were great, at least by the recordings. I was only 3 years old in '71.
...quick sidenote here...I see that this is scheduled to be a monthly show...this was done 3 weeks ago, which, in theory, means episode 2 is imminent in a week or so...I know you get a glut of "suggestions/requests" for content, but I must inject something here due to me re-watching your "Ranking The Albums" episode featuring Wishbone Ash...in that episode, you mentioned doing a show regarding just the live albums of Wishbone Ash...I checked your content, and I could not find a show with that topic...so, since you mentioned it yourself (don't believe me? Re-watch your show...:0)...), maybe I'd humbly request Wishbone Ash as an upcoming episode of "Live Album Love"...it would also be cool if you'd re-mention those "deluxe edition" albums you mentioned that had a disc of live material to coincide with the original album. I will not request another topic for this show because, knowing you, I'm willing to lay down serious money that Frank Zappa and Jimi Hendrix are under consideration here...just a guess...:0)
Great show! I have much of the live albums, including much more, of the albums you highlighted. I must have seen the Brother around 20 times; first time in the summer of 1979. I live in walking distance to the Beacon. I'm waiting for the Grateful Dead show; you will be doing a GD show, right? No artist has more live material available than the Dead
Gorefest - The Eindhoven Insanity is the greatest Death Metal live album of all time. It was recorded at the Dynamo Festival in 1993.
How could you skip Wipe the Windows?
Great start to a new cool show! I always pick up ABB live albums
Wishbone Ash please
Did yall ever go to the bands website and try to buy those Trunk Box sets with EVERY show from a particular tour? They wernt cheap but you got every show professionally recorded abd band approved..all the guest stars etc.
I got the 40th anniversary beacon run box. Amazing set!
What happens to Martin
Pete said he was on vaca...
I very clearly said he is on vacation at the beginning of the show.
@@seaoftranquilityprog sorry I have ptsd from the the afghan war and can’t keep up
@@seaoftranquilityprog sorry I have ptsd from the afghan war and can’t keep up
Great show albums but also deep dive into band. When will you put the regular show? Will it be a full in for when Martin is off? Good to spread content out. Interested to see.
I could never get into them, even live. There was too much top heavy country sound and when they stretched their legs with the added jamming, is sounded meandering and got boring rather quick. There was that spark of magic missing that never could find.
I honestly think that Greg Allman gets overshadowed for his organ playing. Obviously the allmans have a track record for the outstanding guitarists.
His vocals to me are even better...
@@wolf1977 well yes that is obviously true.
Rick must have been busy lately. Good to see him back.
...each and every time I watch a show regarding live albums from The Allman Brothers Band, I hear about some titles missing from my collection. As a hopeless audiophile, and die-hard live album collector, I thank you for that. And, Pete, not sure what version of "The Final Note" you have, but there is a 2023 remaster version that sounds a bit better, if you're so inclined. Thanks Rick for informing me about some 90s live albums I did not have. Perhaps providing a list (not verbal, but a "typed-out" list) of all of the live ABB stuff you have would be something for me to cherish...as a completist, ya know...:0)...let's get on that, shall we?...cool show. Thanks guys.
