Disclaimer: This is for entertainment. I don't claim to be a professional nor 100% historically accurate. I'm not a reenactor but I do enjoy keeping history alive... if you are a perfectionist or unable to see past historical inaccuracies for the sake of entertainment, then this video is probably not for you.
Where's my rifle?: Although I'm pretending to be in the early 1800's, this is indeed current times and where this is filmed, I'm not allowed to be walking around with a firearm.

Thanks Ken, glad you could join me for the journey! Yeah, I made that pipe about 10 months ago. The bowl is made out of mesquite and the stem is oak. I specifically made that pipe to go along with my longhunter get up. It smokes surprisingly well. I don’t get to play in the woods as much as I used to 4-5 years ago, but it sure is nice when I do. I'm 65 years old and most my younger life I was fascinated by the mountain man era. I'm beginning to realize how much I now like the long hunter period. Thanks for your videos.
I know what you mean, for as long as I can remember, I’ve always been fascinated with the plains Indians, mountain men, and the fur era. There’s just something about that time period that really resonates with me. Glad you enjoyed the video. I’ve been a history enthusiast all my life, mainly American History. Absolutely love the mountain man/fur trapper era of the 1820’s through the Indian wars of the 1860-70’s. I started off making a leather pouch, then one thing just lead to another, until I have the current outfit I have now. I don’t claim to be historically accurate but I do enjoy getting out there and playing “native”. Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it!!

What an appropriate title for this great video, Dale. I really enjoy seeing the Longhunter out doing his thing.....You really captured the feeling in this film. I have to say, I am really glad I got to see that awesome antler full of needles. I have had a lot of fun, in the past, scraping those bone needles to shape, yours look great and are well protected!. Hey Ben, I’m so glad you came along for the ride buddy! Yes, that was some home grown mint and lemon balm leaves that I dried a while back. I’m glad you noticed my antler sewing kit. I knew you wanted to check it out so I made sure to get that on film. The antler came from a cull buck I shot 5-6 years ago. He was a 4 point on one side and broken antler on the other and that’s what I used for the container. I don’t get out in the woods as much as I did 4-5 years ago, but when I do, I sure enjoy it. I’m glad that came through on film. Hope you’re doing good buddy, talk to ya soon!!

I love the little wooden tobacco container and tamper. I'll have to make some like that when I get a lathe of my own. I don't smoke tobacco but I do enjoy smoking other herbs in the woods. Do you recall where you got them from?
I made both the wooden canister and the tamper. The canister is made out of a piece of mesquite and the tamper was made from a piece of Osage orange. I’ve gotten a lot of miles out of those guys…and they work well for tobacco and “other herbs”. Thanks for watching!

You want a really good pipe, make a Missouri Meerschaum, you can buy them too.

Trapping was also part of a long hunter's tactics.

Most long-hunters, frontiersmen and mountain men used muskets and fusels from military surplus. Old, or captured, they were better as a survival weapon because even with a .75” bore they could take small game and fowl with shot, even with a handful of pebbles in needs be

Yes I made that pipe about 5 years ago. The bowl is mesquite and the stem is oak. It smokes great and is still going strong to this day. Thanks for watching!

What pipe is that and where can I get one?
It’s a pipe I handmade out of mesquite about 3 years ago. It’s loosely modeled after the Missouri Meerschaum Little Devil pipes. Pipes and Cigars sell them for about $10.75. Thanks for watching!
