With the US miired in its own internal problems, the EU struggling for its very existence, Russia and Putin determined to prevent the creation of a uni- polar world and deterioration of traditional and family values, and top the emergence of new global alliances and institutions as alternatives to the existing internal institutions and structures, it almost looks impossible for Ukraine to win. I suppose it's a start. But never once has Zelenski conceded that Donbas and Crimea are part of Russia. The last I read, he said the same thing again. It was also a big issue for Zelenski at the Istanbul talks. Bigger than the NATO issue. Russia will have to show Zelenski that these are part of Russia by force, and without his consent.
He doesn't care as much about accepting neutrality because he or a future leader can always turn back on that concession. Ceding territory however is permanent, unless it is recaptured by force of arms. In the meantime, the West can do whatever it wants with the territory of the country that isn't under Russian occupation. This is why his position is rigid but Russia isn't budging either. So, it's war until one side capitulates.
They are not part of Russia, so why should he lie and say they are?

PM Orban is quite a man of intelligence and vision. He is the only man who could bring Ukraine war with Russia to come to end. All other European leaders have no initiative to reason as to make peace.

Putin is a master chess player. This is all for aesthetics. He shows the world he’s willing to talk, despite the fact after the Wests behavior he would be in the right not to. He knows they will never accept Russian demands as is. When Russia takes all the Donbass and Crimea they will truly believe all is lost
Zelensky wants a ceasefire without losing face. He is in a tricky situation.
On one hand, he wants his backers to know he is still fighting their proxy war. On the other hand, he has come to realise that Ukraine can not win this war and is not in the best interest of Ukraine to continue with a losing war.
The best way forward is to put pretences aside and call for a genuine ceasefire.
Ukraine will have to make some compromise to keep the rest of the country in tact.
After all, the disputed territories are pre-1991 Russian territories, which Russia gave to Ukraine.
It is better to let those territories go and keep Ukraine's original pre-Soviet territories rather than lose more unless it believes it can win, which is very doubtful. Rather, Zelensky will end up destroying Ukraine due to his continuous miscalculations.
