    For those wondering why there are so many disassembly steps, they are adding an m.2 ssd to the existing hdd.
    If you are just replacing the HDD with a SSD it's a lot quicker.

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc  Год назад +1

      Thanks for adding Matt, yes this is the more intrusive installation, if you're installing a SATA SSD the process would be much quicker with less parts to take out.

    More questions than answers, why not put an SSD 2.5" also. Can you use an adapter to get a better NVM e in there?

    Great informative video, my question is can i just replace the HDD with a 2.5 1T ssd drive, and also will i have issues with the fan running fast. If i do this change do i need a thermal sensor, on a late 2012 A1418 imac.
    Thx in advance

      Hey Cliff,
      If you change out the HDD with a 2.5" SSD you will need a In-Line Thermal cable to control the fan speed.

    Now that I think about it… it would’ve been a better idea to buy a 2015-16 Mac with the amount of money i would’ve needed to do all of this with.

    This way will keep the original HD and the SSD working together? What is the model os SSD card?

    • @poweredbyowc
      @poweredbyowc  2 года назад

      Correct going this route would allow for us to keep using the HD as well as use the SSD. For the needed os if installing an Aura drive we would need OS Mojave or later. If you ever have any other questions or concerns please let us know at support@owc.com!

    • @poweredbyowc

      This particular iMac model was in use from 2012 to 2017. Therefore, you would indeed be able to install the 2013 motherboard into the 2015 iMac.

      Hey Q_TBG, you would need this Envoy Enclosure for the PCIe drive:

      You also mentioned HDD, if you need an enclosure for that it would be the OWC Express:

      Hi 2Guys! I’m sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the fan in your iMac. If you haven't replaced the Apple drive in your iMac, check with a local Apple Certified Technician as this should be handled through the operating system. If you've upgraded to an OWC SATA drive, please contact us at 800-275-4576 or support@owc.com for troubleshooting and assistance.

      You should be able to install this Aura Pro 6G SSD without a problem. You would just want to check if your iMac is a iMac13,1. You can find this information by doing the following:
      Apple Symbol --> About This Mac --> System Report or System Information --> Right side 2nd line You should see where it states Model Identifier.

      Thank you for taking the time to comment! Regrettably it is not compatible. We do list this on our site as well: Compatible with 2.9GHz and 3.1GHz models only, not compatible with iMac 13,1 2.7GHz. Our team tested the SSD with that type of iMac and confirmed it will not work. We do our have Electra SSDs that are compatible if you'd like to take a look!
