I was a tech for Datapoint UK back in the day and worked on the 2200 which was a main component of the British Rail TOPS system for freight management. Apart from occasional faults with the cassette deck the most common fault was the switched mode power supply. Later I also worked on the 6600 which was part of the UK Ford dealer network. Ford mandated the system if dealers wanted warranty claims honoured!

British Rail TOPS was a major account for Datapoint 2200s! Unfortunately, many knew them as "Ventek" computers (Ventek was the Datapoint reseller in the UK until Datapoint bought them from TRW).
Would love to contact you, re. Datapoint / TOPS memories, but don't know how!

@@joeober1700speaking of which, this BR overview of TOPS just popped up on RUclips: ruclips.net/video/FkLU5H1x5gU/видео.html . You can clearly see the Ventek-branded 2200s.

    Made with HARPA AI

Helpful, but the "HARPA AI" didn't know the correct spelling of "Scelbi" is NOT Selby!
Scelbi was one (of half-a dozen) 8008-based microcomputers some claim to be the "first personal computer," all before the next-generation Intel 8080 chip was announced!

Being the first desktop computer is impressive but not as much as the blunder of inventing the microprocessor and not capitalizing on it.

You are correct - Frank Frassanito and his team did not know the future at that time. Would have been fantastic future for them. Thank You David www.kk4ww.com
