What are your thoughts? Would you use the Speed Coach?

great review... 👍...i agree with all the points. a better integration with data/mobilphone is the biggest point. i use mine with a garmin fenix 7pro and it is easy to get the data nice and easy... a basic stearing help for open water crossing would also help. but it helps a lot to see all the stuff right in front of you is the biggest plus.

Thanks for this great review. I dream a device for sportwatch mirroring screen. I think it would be a great choise for Garmin, Suunto, Polar users that avoids to look at the watch screen. It would be an hybrid system between NK SpeedCoach and sportwatches. 450€ is too expensive for e one-sport-device if your not a professional paddler.

I own and use the rowing version, because I row competitively, and I want the most accurate data. I SUP for cross training / recreation, and a smart watch and phone are good enough for me.

Would love one but couldn’t justify the high price given I already use a garmin watch. As an alternate for instant visual data I use a low cost waterproof bike gps that gives speed distance and time on a similar size display for £30 and it works fine.

Great recommendation on the bike gps as an alternative option!

I have Garmin Epix 2 I use for all my SUP sessions. With cheap wireless sports headphones (in case of refreshing , but accidental swimming I do not use my more expensive Jabra Elites while paddling) I can get audio prompts telling data (lap time, lap average speed, average stroke rate...) I select periodically or after each lap. You will also get audio indications for interval section end and beep countdown for next interval etc. Not really that sure about usability of real-time data in SUP; given the huge environmental effect (wind, waves, temp...) on all the training I prefer to analyze things after session on my computer overlaying speed, stroke rate, heart rate graphs and correlating these with windsppeed/direction, wave conditions etc. in the given time.

Totally different boards but I'm loving the new Everready. I'll be sharing my full thoughts here soon. 🙂

I’ve had several different models over the years, since 2014 I think. I feel like it stalls sometimes, no matter which model. I got a new one about one year ago. I mean, sometimes I’m in a down wind situation and my speed doesn’t increase but I am going faster and covering more ground. Sometimes this happens, not enough for me to smash it. Overall, it’s good for training. Although, about every three years it self destructs. It pretty much happens like clockwork. About every three years, during a workout, it randomly shuts off and then it won’t turn on again. I’ve always treated them pretty well, never dropped them or whatever but it always happens. This is the main reason why I’ve had three or four models over the years. If it happens, you can mail it to the company, pay half price for a new one. I’d rather have this than give the communist overlords more money.

I have had the same experience with speed coach. I treat them carefully yet after a few years they either take on water or quit working entirely. I now use a Garmin watch but I always liked having the large display on my board.

Which model? Do you think it’s accurate?

@@rogerwaters413 I use a Garmin Venu 2 because I like its contemporary style. It’s not as thick and gargantuan as other Garmin watches and the price isn’t totally outrageous. The thing I like about the Venu 3 is it has sound. The venue too doesn’t you rely on the vibration which you don’t always feel when you’re paddling so having an audible beep would be nice as far as accuracy I’ve compared it to my friends, speed coach, and the speed can be a little off versus his speed coach, but the distance seems about the same.the nice thing about a smart watch is you can use it for other activities such as running or hiking.

@@rogerwaters413 I use the Garmin venu 2. I feel the distance is pretty accurate and comparing to my friends speed coach. The actual speed is a tad bit slower on the garmin. The speed coach probably has a better satellite connection, therefore producing
More accurate data. The difference is not enough for me to choose one over the other. I do like being able to look down at the speed coach, but for the price and the unreliability it’s not worth it to me. There’s more functionality and better applications with the watch , Garmin app is also nice to use.
